Overview of Purus Labs Keto Feed
Purus Labs is one of the higher rated Fitness Informant’s brands due to their commitment to quality and full disclosure. They have been responsible for creating one of our favorite pre-workouts, Muscle Marinade, and pump supplements, NOXygen.
Keto Feed from Purus Labs is a keto friendly version of their 100% whey protein isolate powder. It does not disappoint. You get 20g of protein, 10g of fats (good fats) and 0g of carbs. This is a keto lovers dream. You will pay more per serving versus a traditional isolate, but you’re getting your MCT as well. A great product worth your money.
Testing Results and Ratings
We reviewed Purus Labs Keto Feed protein powder on five categories. We first start by looking at it’s ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at quality of protein used, amount and other ingredients involved in the making of this protein powder.
We then look at effectiveness. A high quality protein will be effective. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.
Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out Salted Vanilla Caramel.
Mixability refers to how well the protein powder mixes in 12oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.
Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of proteins available on the market.
Keto Feed from Purus Labs is a high quality protein supplement aimed at those who are on the keto diet. It starts with 20g of whey protein isolate. This is not a blend, but 100% isolate, which is awesome for protein absorption. A whey protein isolate has to be at least 90% protein.
You get 10g of fats derived basically from MCT powder (palm kernel oil and coconut oil). There are a lot of research studies on MCT powder, and whether or not coconut oil is a good source of it. You can fall on either side of the coin. All I know is you’re getting 10g of healthy fats to go along with your keto diet.
There’s not a lot of “other” ingredients in this. Yes, it does use sucralose to sweeten the product, but then again, so does 99% of the industry.
Overall, this is a quality product with quality ingredients that any keto, or non-keto user can use and love.
An effective protein powder would use a high quality protein. You are getting 20g of whey protein isolate. One of the highest quality proteins that can be used.
In terms of keto, you want more fats in your diet. So if you’re following the keto diet, the 10g of fats from MCT oils is awesome for your goals (fat loss). Limiting carbs (in this case 0g) is also a goal of the keto diet and this product is great for that.
Salted Vanilla Caramel:
We received salted vanilla caramel and it was the best tasting protein powder we’ve ever had. It was tremendous. We used it in water and even in our coffee (as a creamer replacement) and wow. Purus Labs knocked it out of the park with this flavor profile and we couldn’t be happier (our taste buds sure couldn’t!)
Mixability on Keto Feed was great. We mixed two scoops with 10-12oz of water and it dissolved very nicely (an isolate should do that). We did one scoop in 6oz of coffee and the mixability, with a spoon, was OK. That could have been better. However, if I had mixed the coffee in a blender bottle as well, I suspect it would have been perfect.
Being on the keto diet, you may be willing to pay more for a keto friendly protein. One of our highest rated whey protein isolates here at Fitness Informant retails for $1 per serving. Keto Feed will come in at $1.67 per serving. You will pay a premium for the added MCT fats and the 0g of carbs.
If you’re not on the keto diet you might not get this product. You can get a whey protein concentrate or isolate, a high quality one, for much cheaper. However, if you do adhere to keto, it is important you find, and pay for, a keto friendly protein. This is the one you should try.
