Overview of Purus Labs Everyday Amino
Purus Labs is formed around science. They were tired of the underdosed products on the market being sold by marketing companies. They tout that their products come from real scientists and real athletes. They take into consideration all aspects of fitness when creating their products.
Everyday Amino from Purus Labs is a unique 5:1:1 BCAA product. This means you are getting five parts Leucine to one part Isoleucine and one part Valine. Overall, we liked this product as a supplement to take outside of your anabolic window. Science has shown that the 2:1:1 BCAA ratio is the best post-workout, but for “everyday” aminos this is a solid option.
Testing Results and Ratings
We reviewed Purus Labs Everyday Amino on five categories. We first start by looking at it’s ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the amount of aminos used, as well as the kind of aminos, the ratio and other ingredients involved in the making of this BCAA powder.
We then look at effectiveness. A high BCAA product will be effective. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.
Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Fresh Mango Tangerine.
Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 12oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.
Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of BCAA products on the market; both with and without caffeine.
Everyday Amino from Purus Labs is a simple BCAA product that also includes Fructooligosaccharide, which is a natural sweetener which acts as a prebiotic. You get 1g of that and the recommended daily intake is around 4g. You are getting 3.5g of BCAA per serving. The ratio you are getting is 5:1:1 which is unique compared to the well studied and researched 2:1:1 ratio.
The 5:1:1 puts the emphasis on Leucine, which is the most important of the three BCAA as it jump starts protein synthesis. However, there is research that shows that the 2:1:1 ratio is the best post-workout because the three BCAA working together proves to be most effective. On top of that, Leucine is the “cheapest” of the three BCAAs so you always want to be aware of that when comparing a higher ration BCAA price to a 2:1:1 ratio. Outside of post workout, for everyday use, higher amounts of Leucine may be beneficial.
Effectiveness with BCAA products is typically judged on the post-workout muscle recovery effect. Because I don’t use this post-workout, and more of an everyday amino product (like the name says) I don’t want to judge it on that. In terms of providing essential amino acids then this is a good product for that. Due to that it is hard to judge the overall effectiveness of this product. With the use of the prebiotic and the continual use amino profile I feel that it does contribute to your overall recovery.
Fresh Mango Tangerine:
I am a huge fan of mango and tangerine so I was excited to try this. I really liked it. My only negative feedback on it was that it is almost “too sweet” like a Sweettart. It was refreshing but I don’t want to drink more than two drinks per day of this.
This mixed very well. I would say that I have had some BCAA products that have mixed better and many that have mixed worst. There was some residue left over after drinking but nothing another splash of water can’t fix.
Value on a BCAA, to me, is based on how many grams of BCAA do you get per dollar. For Everyday Amino you are getting 105g of BCAA at $20. This is one the cheaper side for amino products. You are also getting less grams of BCAAs because of that.
Overall I feel like the value is there, especially for an amino product in which you sip throughout your day and not directly post workout. I have seen other BCAA products give you 3x the amount of BCAAs for only about $7 more. It is important to note that you are getting the prebiotic in this as well to help with digestion. That does make it more valuable.
