Overview of Sparta Nutrition Kraken Pump
Sparta Nutrition made their name off of one of our most effective pre-workouts, Kraken. Sparta Nutrition is known as a supplement company that uses effective dosages in their products to ensure they get repeat buyers.
Kraken Pump is a solid extension of the Kraken pre-workout with highly effective pump and hydration ingredients. Depending on the dosage of your pre-workout powder, Kraken Pump could be a valuable add-on to your pre-workout stack.
Testing Results and Ratings
We reviewed Sparta Nutrition Kraken Pump on five categories. We first start by looking at it’s ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the different ingredients used in the pump supplement, what their intention is and how effectively dosed are each ingredient.
We then look at effectiveness. An effective pre-workout will use high quality, proven ingredients, at clinically backed dosages. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.
Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Rainbow Candy.
Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 12oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.
Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of pump products on the market.
If you’ve ever read any of our pre-workout or pump reviews, you will know that we are a fan of clinical dosages and of HydroMax (Glycerol Powder). Kraken Pump has two options on their label, one scoop or two. With one scoop you get 3g of L-Cittruline. The clinical dosage of this ingredient is 6g. Do the math, two scoops you get the clinically effective dosage. Now, depending on your pre-workout (if you take one) you may only need one scoop. L-Cittruline is known to increase blood flow into your muscle tissue which increases your pump.
Then onto one of our favorite ingredients, HydroMax. With one scoop you get 1g, with two scoops you’d get 2g. I would like to see this more, honestly. I love HydroMax. I like the use of HydroMax much more than L-Cittruline, only because not a lot of PWO powders use HydroMax, but nearly all use L-Cittruline. Other pump supplements we’ve reviewed have 3g or more of HydroMax (some on the market have as high as 6g!)
HydroMax may be dosed lower because of the inclusion of Nitrosigine. Per an article from TigerFitness.com, inclusion of 750mg-1.5g of Nitrosigine can greatly increase vascularity and muscle pumps. You get 750mg for one scoop, or 1.5g for two. Your choice, but solid dosage.
Kraken Pump includes 500mg-1g of Beet Vulgaris aka Beet Root. This is a NO increasing ingredient (try eating a bunch of beets before you lift…you’ll see). Effective dosages are 500mg-1g depending on weight.
Lastly, in terms of hydration, you get 500mg of Coconut Water Powder. This keeps your cells hydrated and improves exercise performance. This is dosed appropriately as a majority of supplements that include this ingredient are dosed at 500mg.
I loved Kraken pre-workout, so I was excited to try Kraken Pump. I was told it would increase my vascularity (with the use of Nitrosigine I thought so too) but unfortunately it didn’t. Vascularity is dependent on genetics and body fat as well. My body fat is low, but my genetics must suck.
It did produce a helluva pump. A great pump actually. My shoulders and arms never looked as good. Chest obviously pumped hard after a good, epic chest day. This product does work great for the pump.
It also works great for endurance. An increased pump means you are increasing the fluids in your cells and tissues, thus allowing you to exercise longer and harder. My normal point of exhaustion was surpassed when I used Kraken Pump.
Overall, this is an effective pump product. I would use two scoops (turning it into 20-servings for me) for the best effect. This is a much better pump supplement than a lot on the market. One of the best.
Do you all like Skittles? If so, you’re going to love this. Skittles are my thing (well they used to be when I was fat) so I love the taste of them. Imagine taking a handful of Skittles, assorted colors, and chewing them at once. That is exactly what you’re getting with Rainbow Candy flavored Kraken Pump. This is the same flavor profile they use in Kraken pre-workout.
Kraken Pump is a higher than normal pump product serving size. One scoop is 7.25g while two would be 15.5g. That is a big scoop for a pump product (but remember all the ingredients you’re getting). One scoop mixes well, but as I mentioned in my effectiveness section, I used two for the best pump possible.
With two scoops by itself, it mixes well. If you add it to the pre-workout then you might have some issues. I recommend to use at least 8-10oz of water in a shaker cup.
Value will be subjective on this product due to the serving size. If you can get away with one scoop per lift, then your cost per serving is $1. If you’re like me, and need two scoops per lift, then your cost per serving is $2. The $2 cost per serving is higher than normal.
I have had other pump supplements with a better cost per serving but they don’t come with a clinical dosage of L-Cittruline. BUT because most people stack a pump product with a pre-workout, and most pre-workouts are going to have L-Cittruline (more and more at clinical dosages) I would be OK with less or no L-Cittruline in this product.
Overall, this is a great value for a great product that works. Look at your pre-workout and determine if you can get away with one scoop. If so, then you have a very valuable pump supplement.
