Gold’s Gym Pre-Workout: Exceeds Expectations and Excels

Golds Gym Pre-Workout

Known as the most popular gym in America, and maybe even the world, Gold's Gym is not more than just iron and cardio equipment. Gold's Gym has formulated and launched their very own pre-workout supplement in three different flavors. The new Gold's Gym Pre-Workout powder will be available online at Amazon.com and in their Gold's Gym locations.

Gold's Gym has been coined the Mecca of Bodybuilding (at least the Venice Beach, CA location). It's been featured on every major bodybuilding documentary, including Pumping Iron featuring the great Arnold Schwarzenegger. It is a must-visit gym and now it has a must-try pre-workout.

The new Gold's Gym Pre-Workout powder will be available in three flavors. Consumers can get the Gold's Gym Pre-Workout in Venice Punch, Blue Raspberry and Lemonade.

Gold’s Gym Pre-Workout

When thinking of Gold’s Gym you don’t think of supplements. However with their massive following, a growing amount of gym members and their eye on quality it only made sense for the brand to get into the pills and powders game of dietary supplements. Gyms in the past have done things similar, but none, to our knowledge, have done a pre-workout this well.

Golds Gym Pre-Workout SFPL-Citrulline DL-Malate – 8g

Citrulline Malate has quickly become one of the most popular blood flow agents used in the pre-workout powder world. Citrulline Malate is a combination of Citrulline and Malic Acid. Citrulline is the precursor to Arginine in the body. When users consume Citrulline the body converts it to Arginine which then increases nitric oxide production. The increase in NO production will increase blood flow into the muscles creating a larger, fuller pump. Malaic Acid can aid in performance output.

The dosage of 8g, although we don’t know the ratio of Citrulline to Malate Acid, is sufficient. Typical ratios are 2:1 or 1:1 which would still give users and adequate amount of Citrulline for improved blood flow.

Beta Alanine – 3.2g

Beta-Alanine is one of the most popular dietary supplement ingredients used in the pre-workout world. It is commonly known for the fact it can cause paresthesia, the abnormal feeling of the skin in a tingly fashion, but the benefits of Beta-Alanine are great for exercise performance.

If you can handle the “tingles” than Beta-Alanine will be providing benefit for your performance. Beta-Alanine can buffer lactic acid and aid in reducing DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). Beta-Alanine works to improve muscular endurance allowing you to lift more intense for slightly longer.

The 3.2g dosage is what we’ve come to expect.

Betaine Anhydrous – 2.5g

Betaine Anhydrous can help improve power and strength output. Betaine Anhydrous can also aid in muscle recovery. Supplementing with at least 2.5g of Betaine Anhydrous has shown to improve exercise performance. It also has benefits on heart health and lover health.

L-Taurine – 1g

Taurine is commonly used in pre-workouts as it can help with exercise performance and help with overall hydration and endurance. Taurine can help your body regulate electrolytes to aid in overall muscular hydration. Taurine can also improve muscle function, reduce muscle damage, and aid in recovery after intense physical activity.

We look for at least 1g of Taurine per serving.

Natural Caffeine – 310mg

Natural caffeine used in the Gold’s Gym per-workout yields 98% caffine. That means users are actually getting 303.8mg of active caffeine. Right around the 300mg mark is where most pre-workouts come out now on the market. Research shows that caffeine can improve workouts, improve focus and alertness. Some users report that natural caffeine feels better to them and less “jittery” or “stimulant” like.

AlphaSize Alpha GPC – 150mg

AlphaSize Alpah GPC50WSP from Chemi Nutra is a specially formulated from of Alpha GCP. It uses the highest quality and most bioavailable version of A-GCP to raise choline and acetylcholine levels in the brain. Alpha GPC usage improves memory, mind-muscle connection and focus. It can easily cross the blood-brain barrier to be one of the best choline sources you can get for memory.

It does yield 50% Alpha GPC. In this particular formula it is listed at 150mg. That means that this will yield 75mg active Alpha GPC. We do like to see this at 300-600mg total, but users will still get some benefit from the 150mg dosage.

S7 – 50mg

S7 is a patent ingredient from FutureCeuticals containing seven different plant based ingredients that has been shown to improve blood flow. S7 does this by reducing free radicals and freeing up NO (nitric oxide) production.

In a 90-day double blind, peer-reviewed clinical study, S7 significantly increased blood circulating nitric oxide and maintained elevated levels with once-daily supplementation compared to placebo.

S7 is popular to use in pre-workouts because of the small dosage (50mg) and the impact it can have on users.

AstraGin – 25mg

AstraGin from Nuliv Science is an ingredient used to help increase the absorption of the active ingredients in the formula. Nuliv recommends 50mg dosage per serving, but we’ve seen it at 25mg in other pre-workout supplements as well. This is the minimum that Nuliv requires brands to use in their formula so the consumer still gets positive impacts from it.

For a brand like Gold's Gym to come out with a supplement and a pre-workout is unique and cool. While most would think that the formula may be mediocre at best, considering the amount of foot traffic into the gyms and the consumer they are targeting, the Gold's Gym pre-workout is actually nicely done with efficacious doses of key ingredients that improve blood flow, energy, output and performance.

Final Takeaway on Gold's Gym Pre-Workout

Honestly I am impressed with this. Gold's Gym could have easily went a different route and just got by with the bare minimum. Yes I would love to see slightly more Alpha GPC but overall from top to bottom this is a well done pre-workout formula that will help improve blood flow, energy levels, focus, output and overall performance. If Gold's Gym sees success with this I can see them adding more and more to the Gold's Gym lineup of sports nutrition supplements.
