Others might fit well, but sound awful. Some have wires (what are those!?) that get in the way. Then you have the ones that are perfect…for four months and then they break. We’ve all experienced this before.
This put us on the road to find the perfect set of headphone or earbuds for the gym. That brought us to the company Jabra.
Jabra makes headsets for all sorts of areas. Most notably, they make the phones and headsets for a lot of the businesses in the world. In fact, my office uses Jabra headsets for our phone systems. I knew that Jabra was solid in terms of tech when it came to headsets, so I was not shocked to find out that they made these ear buds that were supposedly great.
We got our hands on a pair of Jabra Elite Sport true wireless earbuds. I wanted to see how these held up for us in the weight lifting community (their ads show a lot of runners, but never the weight trainers). These were the first of its kind that I have ever tried, and I am glad I got to try them. These quickly became the best headphones/earbuds I have ever owned in my life. Design

Along with the design of the earbuds, we have the design of the recharging station/carrying case.First, let’s take a look at the earbuds…
Yes, they are small. This is awesome. I have heard some concern that because they are small that two things may occur:
- We will lose them
- They will have awful sound quality
I can assure you that both are myths and should not be a concern prior to purchase.
Both ear buds have controls on them. The left earbud has your volume controls. The right earbud has the power option as well as the hear-through option (on click on this turns the sound off so you can hear people talk to you, but does not power down the earbuds). You can also control the volume from the Jabra app you download to go with your earbuds.
The earbuds also have sensors on the inside of them to monitor your heart rate. This speaks directly with the Jabra app that you download to use with your earbuds. Pretty cool stuff!
The earbuds come with several things that pertain to design. First, they come with three variations of rubberized rings that go around the earbuds. There are three of them to help with the fit of your unique ear. Everyone’s ear is different, so there is no one size fits all. This is optimal to ensure a nice tight fit is there to help with sound quality. I elected to go with the medium winged ones to ensure the earbuds stayed in my ears.
The earbuds also come with six different earbud tips. Three of them are silicone, and the other three are foam. These different buds help you select the right one for you based on ear canal size and feel. I elected to go with the medium foam ones to offer a comfortable fit. I could shake my head vigorously and the earbuds would not fall out once I selected the correct fit and ear bud tips.
There are absolutely ZERO wires which is amazing. You don’t know what you got until it’s gone they say…well they can stay gone because I never want wires again.
The carrying case/charging station is designed nicely as well. It is not cheap. It is a small box with cutouts inside so you know exactly what earbud goes where. Once you shut the case, the case begins to charge the earbuds. Easy as 1-2-3.
Lastly, the mobile app. It is user friendly and easy to use. The design is simple allowing even the most amateur of app users to be successful with the app.
Overall, I love how these are designed. Functionality

I want to talk about battery life, sound quality, bluetooth connectivity, range and then the functionality of the app.First, the batter life is awesome. These are the best I have ever had. The earbuds will last up to 4.5 hours of continuous play. WHAT?! Yes, that’s right. What’s even more cool is that the carrying case/rechargeable station, will charge your earbuds a full 2x over. Meaning, you can use your earbuds for 13-15 hours before you have to plug in your rechargeable case for a full recharge. I go all week and then some before I have to hook this baby back up.
Sound quality is good with Jabra Elite Sport. I have had over-the-ear headphones before and they does sound better than the Jabra Elite Sport. It is important that you find a fit that is tight and comfortable for you. This will help with sound quality. Anytime you allow outside noise in (with over-the-ear these cancel that out) you will experience a lower sound quality. With that said, the quality is not bad at all. The bass is good and treble is sufficient. They do produce a loud volume, but at times you can hear the outside world…you still have to mute them to have a conversation however. Overall, sound quality is good, could be better with a custom fit, and if you press the buds tighter into your ears you can hear the difference.
Bluetooth connectivity is great. At first, when you set it up, it can be confusing and difficult. This is something you may need help with. Jabra offers great how-to videos on their site. Even a millennial like me had to use them so don’t feel bad. The only issue I had with connectivity was with one stationary bike machine. The hear rate monitor interfered with the connection. I reached out to Jabra and they said that they are aware of the issue.
The range on these are impressive. I can set my phone down on one side of the gym and walk all the way to the other without any issues. Regarding distance, I would say you are good to go up to 100 feet. This is when the earbuds start cutting out. How do I know this? I set my phone down and walked off the distance. It was about 33 yards until they started cutting out.
The mobile app is very cool. The earbuds have sensors on the inside that monitor your heart rate. The app will show you what your heart rate is. It also allows you to take various fitness tests like the VO2 Max. You can also get a personal trainer to talk to you right through your earbuds with the Jabra training programs that are installed in the app software. Durability

Now I don’t go around jumping or stepping on them, but I have dropped them several times when I take them out of my ears. Not one time did I worry about them breaking. They are lightweight and would bounce, but I don’t think they would break.
The charging case is VERY durable. There is a nice tight fit when you close the case, it is heavy duty and is built to withstand some force. The plugin port where you charge it is built nicely too to prevent the outlet from getting “stripped” out.
Fashionability
[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]Some people by Beats because they think they are fashionable. Sure, they look cool. But you know what’s even more cool? When you can barely see that someone is wearing earbuds!
Yes, the Jabra Elite Sport earbuds do stick out of your ears a little bit, but overall they are small and discrete. This makes them fashionable. You can wear these in the gym and not many people know you’re wearing them. Some people might have a small issue with how they stick out…but think about this…headphones are clear as day, so what’s the issue here?

The everyday price of these earbuds are $250 for the set. However, if you compare it to other brands, of which I have owned, that cost $100 each, and you replace them every couple years, you already have your investment paid for. Plus, those “other” brands I bought had wires. They were not true wireless.For $250 you are getting a pair of quality, functional and durable ear buds that fit nicely in your ears, provide solid sound quality and gym motivation we all need. They do not fall out. They do not hurt. You don’t lose them. They would take a lot to break them. The small issues with these pointed out above are not enough to deter anyone from buying these.
I have recommended these to a lot of people already. If you can swing $250 then get these earbuds, you won’t regret it. They also run periodic sales so check for those as well.
