Astrion™: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Dosage and Supplements

Astrion™

Astrion is a patented and clinically studied cosmeceutical ingredient meant to aid with advanced hydration. It is made with extracts from Astragalus and Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola). It has been clinically shown to nourish and hydrate skin by increasing Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid production.

Uses of Astrion™

Astrion is an ingredient from NuLiv that is quite new to the market, and is typically used in beauty products. It is meant to aid with skin hydration, and it has been clinically shown to do so.

Astrion is a combination of both Astragalus and Centella. The combo provides both Astragalosides (from Astragalus), as well as Asiaticosides from Cantella. Both of which have a variety of benefits.

Focusing on skin here of course, Cantella has been shown in-vitro to increase dermal fibroblasts. Dermal fibroblasts are cells which are responsible for generating connective tissue. Cantella actually has quite some backing as a way to aid with wound healing, and is beneficial at increasing the production of Collagen.

As for the Astragalus, it is a source of Astragalosides, which has a variety of benefits in the body. While we could go on for a long time on the benefits of Astragalus, for the sake of keeping this relevant to skin health we will keep this short. Astragalus has been shown to help with Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen production, both of which are very important for hydration and elasticity of the skin.

To give a quick overview on what Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen are, we will explain them very simply here. Hyaluronic Acid is a substance that your body produces, and it has thick/fluid like consistency. It is found predominantly in the skin, as well as the joints. It is responsible for keeping your skin and joints hydrated. It is actually quite a popular supplement on it’s own.

As for Collagen, it is the most abundant form of protein in the body, and while there are many forms of it (16), the majority is made up of Types I, II, and III. Type I and Type 3 Collagen are the most important for skin. An easy way to think of Collagen is as a “glue” for your skin.

Astrion has been studied on humans in a clinical trial on 19 volunteers (ages 38-82) to reduce wrinkles up to 15%, and melanin by 17% after 4 weeks of taking Astrion. This means that after 4 weeks of Astrion use, you can expect less wrinkles, as well as less discolored skin.
