Jabra makes headsets for all sorts of areas. Most notably, they make the phones and headsets for a lot of the businesses in the world. In fact, my office uses Jabra headsets for our phone systems. I knew that Jabra was solid in terms of tech when it came to headsets, so I was not shocked to find out that they made these ear buds that were supposedly great.
We got our hands on a pair of Jabra Elite Active 65t true wireless earbuds. We had reviewed the Jabra Elite Sport wireless earbuds, and they were ranked #1 for us…until we reviewed the Jabra Elite Active 65t. Design

No, I am not talking about the Air Pods where you have sticks hanging out your ears…that just looks stupid.The Jabra Elite Active 65t earbuds are awesome. I loved their Elite Sport, but with the Elite Sport you had to change out different ear molds and foam/rubber tips for your ear canal. The Jabra Elite Active 65t does have different tips, because let’s face it, we all have different sized ear canals, but it no longer gives us ear molds as it is a one size fit all approach…and it truly works.
The earbuds are small and sleek but fit great in you ear, with no moving around, even when you’re doing a high intensity cardio workout. You can vigorously shake your head and they stay in.
The power button is on the right bud. This is convenient as you can just reach up and hit the button to mute the earbuds to speak to someone at the gym…or more so listen. You just hold this button as well to shut off the earbuds (and to pair your device).
The volume control, as well as the power to the left earbud are on the left one…shocker. You can easily turn up the music, turn it down, and skip songs right from your earbud.
The case is awesome. It is small but protects your earbuds no matter which ear tip you choose. It also give you 15 hours of playback time…solid.
What I love about these is that they are so light and small you almost forget you have them in. Functionality
[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]The functionality of the Jabra Elite Active 65t earbuds are similar to other Jabra devices.First off, the sound quality is amazing. Sometimes you’d think with these little guys that the sound would be faint and the bass non-existent. That is not the case here. I can say that the sound truly does rival the over-the-ear headphones, bass included. These get loud!
The range is great. Your range is about 100 feet of blue tooth connectivity. If you go into another room where the signal needs to travel through walls, this could impact the 100 foot range. Like with the Jabra Elite Sports, there is connectivity issues with these when you are using some cardio equipment with the heart monitors on them through the hand grips. I am not sure why this is, but it kills the signal. This is an area that Jabra needs to fix asap. If you don’t do cardio, then you’re fine.
The best part of these is the 15 hours of charge time the case provides. Every time you put the earbuds back in the case, the case charges the earbuds. How awesome is this? That means you essentially only need to charge your earbud once a week…or longer!
Connecting your earbuds for the first time can be a real pain in the ass. I experienced that with the Elite Sport. Not with these. These you turned on, hit the power button and your phone finds it and pairs. It was super simple and very reassuring.

[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]Something so small could be so delicate, right? Well, these are not. They are so light weight, and plastic, that if you drop them they just bounce. I’ve dropped mine several times, nothing ever happens.
Now, if you step on them…that could be a different story. However, do you really want to step on any headphones you ever own? That’s what I thought.
The case is very durable. What I mean by this is that not only does it charge your earbuds, it protects them while in your gym bag. I toss mine in a side compartment and it protects them so well against everything else that is in that pocket.
As long as you can avoid stepping on these…which I cannot imagine any reason that would happen, you will have these for a long long time.
Fashionability

They are black with gold or blue buttons that are subtle colors, and not vibrant. They are so small it is almost like no one recognizes you are wearing them. Heck, sometimes you forget you’re even wearing them.
Also, true wireless is the only way to go now days. Your unfashionable if you are still using wires, or even the over the head headphones. Hide it all!

The Jabra Elite Sports were close to $250 when they came out. The Apple Airpods are $160 and they stick out of your ear and look crazy. Jabra is a brand that focuses on audio. They’ve done that since day 1. It is a brand you can trust in. They have a great functioning, durable and fashionable pair of earbuds called the Jabra Elite Active 65 that is well worth every single penny. We were able to nail down a pair of Jabra Sport Pulse wireless headphones. With that said, there is still an ear-to-ear wire, but a Bluetooth connection to your phone doesn’t require a wire there. The Jabra Sport Pulse headphones come with a built-in heart rate monitor which connects to the downloadable Jabra app (which provides a lot of cool functions). The Jabra Sport Pulse headphone are extremely light weight and designed to fit snug into your inner ear.First, these are not true wireless ear buds. There is a wire connected from the right earbud to the left earbud. They are, however, a Bluetooth connection away from your smart phone. This means that there are no wires connecting the headphones to your streaming device, but you will still have one ear-to-ear. For some, this is OK. For others, it is an annoyance. For us, we have tested them all, and we understand that the headphones with an ear-to-ear wired connection are going to be more economically feasible for the consumer.
Second, these are not over-the-ear headphones. What does that mean? It means that these are not Beats Studio. They are designed to go inside your ear canal. This is where Jabra does a very nice job.
Included with your Jabra Sport Pulse headphones are various connectors to ensure a secure fit (which will improve sound quality). The package includes (4) different sizes of EarWings. These are what hold the headphone in your ear. You get to choose between small, medium, medium plus and large. You want to select the size that best fits your ear. The size we selected fit comfortably in our ears. We could shake our head vigorously and they wouldn’t fall out. They are also made of rubber, so sweat isn’t an issue.
You also get (6) options of EarGels. These are the “tips” that go inside your ear. You can choose small, medium or large in either silicon gel or foam tips. You want to select the one that fits best in your ear to ensure you have optimal sound quality.
The headphones are also designed with a built-in heart rate monitor. This is great to connect to your downloaded Jabra app to determine how many calories you’ve burned, VO2 max test, etc. The nice part about this built-in heart rate monitor is it can connect to third-party apps like Runtastic and MapMyFitness.
The built-in USB port is under the right earbud covered by a plastic protector. This is nice and easy to find, plug in and recharge.
Lastly, you do get the control functionality on the wire itself. Here you can increase or decrease volume. It is also where the microphone is housed for phone calls. You also answer and drop calls with a touch of this area too.
Overall, the design on the Jabra Pulse Sport headphones are nice, for a “wired” set of headphones. We would prefer true wireless but the pricing is double, if not triple. Functionality

The Jabra Sport Pulse headphones also have other functionality when it comes to their Jabra app.The Jabra app connects to your headphones. Here, it gathers info like heart rate to help you through various methods within the app. Within the app you can plan workouts, test fitness levels, analyze your fitness and have an in-ear personal trainer! This is value-add by Jabra and the Jabra app.
Ease of use is big with headphones. These paired very quickly to our smartphone via Bluetooth connection. Using the headphones (turning them on) is as easy as holding one button. I would say these are “idiot” proof.
Sound quality is huge in the headphone market. We’ve used over-the-ear headphones in the past. These are always going to be optimal to any in-ear headphone (unless they are custom) in terms of sound quality. The bass was good. Again, with the over-the-ear headphones, the bass is superior. Treble was good too. Overall loudness was OK. If we compare to over-the-ear again we would come in inferior. Compared to other in-ear headphones these were on-par. They were loud enough to “dim” the outside surrounding environment. You would have to turn them down or off to hear someone talk to you. One thing to note is that different ear buds provide a better sound quality. The foam tips provide much better sound than the gels.
Range is another big thing on wireless headphones. We set our smartphone down and walked away from it. The connection remained clear for a good 90 feet and then started to cut out. If you leave your phone in one room and walk to another where there is a wall, the range is quite a bit less. There was never an issue with the Bluetooth connection cutting in and out when our phone was with us.
Battery life is OK. You get 5-hours of playtime on the Jabra Sport Pulse. This lasts us about a week in the gym. We have had competitors come in longer, sometimes as much as 10-hours, but we also realize these are less expensive than those counterparts.
Overall, the functionality fits the price level. They work. The sound quality isn’t the greatest on the planet, but it is’t the worse. Durability
[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]The reason we started reviewing headphones was because of the lack of durability in the headphone market. Beats made some OK headphones, but they broke rapidly.
Jabra Sport Pulse headphones are lightweight. If you drop them, no big deal. If you step on them…then you might have an issue. Some of the big players in this space use plastic to secure the headphones in your ears. Here we are using rubber.
The rubber coating on the actual ear buds also provide protection against sweat. On top of that, Jabra provides a 3-year warranty against sweat damage.
The carrying case isn’t anything special. It is a mesh bag with a drawstring to put your headphones in. I would prefer a harder case, something that would protect them better. This is one of the negatives of durability, although it doesn’t directly pertain to the headphones themselves.
Overall, the lightweight of the headphones make these feel as if they lack durability, but they don’t. There’s not much on it that could break compared to some of the competitors on the market. The only negative is the carry case.
Fashionability

They last longer, provide a solid sound quality with the foam tips, and fit extremely well. One issue we’ve had with competitors is that they fall our of our ears. Because Jabra is such a great customer service focused company, and the headphones truly are great, this is a fantastic value. This put us on the road to find the perfect set of headphone or earbuds for the gym. That brought us to the company Jabra.
Jabra makes headsets for all sorts of areas. Most notably, they make the phones and headsets for a lot of the businesses in the world. In fact, my office uses Jabra headsets for our phone systems. I knew that Jabra was solid in terms of tech when it came to headsets, so I was not shocked to find out that they made these ear buds that were supposedly great.
We got our hands on a pair of Jabra Elite Sport true wireless earbuds. I wanted to see how these held up for us in the weight lifting community (their ads show a lot of runners, but never the weight trainers). These were the first of its kind that I have ever tried, and I am glad I got to try them. These quickly became the best headphones/earbuds I have ever owned in my life. Along with the design of the earbuds, we have the design of the recharging station/carrying case.First, let’s take a look at the earbuds…
Yes, they are small. This is awesome. I have heard some concern that because they are small that two things may occur:
- We will lose them
- They will have awful sound quality
I can assure you that both are myths and should not be a concern prior to purchase.
Both ear buds have controls on them. The left earbud has your volume controls. The right earbud has the power option as well as the hear-through option (on click on this turns the sound off so you can hear people talk to you, but does not power down the earbuds). You can also control the volume from the Jabra app you download to go with your earbuds.
The earbuds also have sensors on the inside of them to monitor your heart rate. This speaks directly with the Jabra app that you download to use with your earbuds. Pretty cool stuff!
The earbuds come with several things that pertain to design. First, they come with three variations of rubberized rings that go around the earbuds. There are three of them to help with the fit of your unique ear. Everyone’s ear is different, so there is no one size fits all. This is optimal to ensure a nice tight fit is there to help with sound quality. I elected to go with the medium winged ones to ensure the earbuds stayed in my ears.
The earbuds also come with six different earbud tips. Three of them are silicone, and the other three are foam. These different buds help you select the right one for you based on ear canal size and feel. I elected to go with the medium foam ones to offer a comfortable fit. I could shake my head vigorously and the earbuds would not fall out once I selected the correct fit and ear bud tips.
There are absolutely ZERO wires which is amazing. You don’t know what you got until it’s gone they say…well they can stay gone because I never want wires again.
The carrying case/charging station is designed nicely as well. It is not cheap. It is a small box with cutouts inside so you know exactly what earbud goes where. Once you shut the case, the case begins to charge the earbuds. Easy as 1-2-3.
Lastly, the mobile app. It is user friendly and easy to use. The design is simple allowing even the most amateur of app users to be successful with the app.
Overall, I love how these are designed. Functionality

I want to talk about battery life, sound quality, bluetooth connectivity, range and then the functionality of the app.First, the batter life is awesome. These are the best I have ever had. The earbuds will last up to 4.5 hours of continuous play. WHAT?! Yes, that’s right. What’s even more cool is that the carrying case/rechargeable station, will charge your earbuds a full 2x over. Meaning, you can use your earbuds for 13-15 hours before you have to plug in your rechargeable case for a full recharge. I go all week and then some before I have to hook this baby back up.
Sound quality is good with Jabra Elite Sport. I have had over-the-ear headphones before and they does sound better than the Jabra Elite Sport. It is important that you find a fit that is tight and comfortable for you. This will help with sound quality. Anytime you allow outside noise in (with over-the-ear these cancel that out) you will experience a lower sound quality. With that said, the quality is not bad at all. The bass is good and treble is sufficient. They do produce a loud volume, but at times you can hear the outside world…you still have to mute them to have a conversation however. Overall, sound quality is good, could be better with a custom fit, and if you press the buds tighter into your ears you can hear the difference.
Bluetooth connectivity is great. At first, when you set it up, it can be confusing and difficult. This is something you may need help with. Jabra offers great how-to videos on their site. Even a millennial like me had to use them so don’t feel bad. The only issue I had with connectivity was with one stationary bike machine. The hear rate monitor interfered with the connection. I reached out to Jabra and they said that they are aware of the issue.
The range on these are impressive. I can set my phone down on one side of the gym and walk all the way to the other without any issues. Regarding distance, I would say you are good to go up to 100 feet. This is when the earbuds start cutting out. How do I know this? I set my phone down and walked off the distance. It was about 33 yards until they started cutting out.
The mobile app is very cool. The earbuds have sensors on the inside that monitor your heart rate. The app will show you what your heart rate is. It also allows you to take various fitness tests like the VO2 Max. You can also get a personal trainer to talk to you right through your earbuds with the Jabra training programs that are installed in the app software. Durability

Now I don’t go around jumping or stepping on them, but I have dropped them several times when I take them out of my ears. Not one time did I worry about them breaking. They are lightweight and would bounce, but I don’t think they would break.
The charging case is VERY durable. There is a nice tight fit when you close the case, it is heavy duty and is built to withstand some force. The plugin port where you charge it is built nicely too to prevent the outlet from getting “stripped” out.
Fashionability

Yes, the Jabra Elite Sport earbuds do stick out of your ears a little bit, but overall they are small and discrete. This makes them fashionable. You can wear these in the gym and not many people know you’re wearing them. Some people might have a small issue with how they stick out…but think about this…headphones are clear as day, so what’s the issue here?

The everyday price of these earbuds are $250 for the set. However, if you compare it to other brands, of which I have owned, that cost $100 each, and you replace them every couple years, you already have your investment paid for. Plus, those “other” brands I bought had wires. They were not true wireless.For $250 you are getting a pair of quality, functional and durable ear buds that fit nicely in your ears, provide solid sound quality and gym motivation we all need. They do not fall out. They do not hurt. You don’t lose them. They would take a lot to break them. The small issues with these pointed out above are not enough to deter anyone from buying these.
I have recommended these to a lot of people already. If you can swing $250 then get these earbuds, you won’t regret it. They also run periodic sales so check for those as well.
