CODE RED AMINOS SFP BREAKDOWN

5% Nutrition is known for their heavy hitting products across the board. With the addition of the “Code RED” series in their line-up we got 3 new products. Aminos are an essential part of the muscle building process and while not a MANDATORY supplement, as a prep coach I highly recommend some form of Aminos in your intra-workout daily.

BCAA 2:1:1 Blend5%AminosSFP

There are 20 types of amino acids, out of that 20, 3 that are critically important from a muscle builder standpoint. They are called Branched Chain Amino Acids, or BCAAs.

L-Leucine – 2,500 mg

The reason they are so important is because of Leucine. This amino acid is directly responsible for stimulating protein synthesis. Protein Synthesis is a biological process that’s a direct trigger of muscle growth. Natty or not you want to make sure you are utilizing that to the best of your ability.

The signaling pathway for this is known as the mTOR pathway and is the main protein synthesis regulator. The mTOR pathway can “sense” environmental signals, including intense exercise, and nutritional signals, such as the BCAAs. These signals increase the processes of the body that lead to muscle growth.

As noted, Leucine is one of the BCAAs, which are also Essential Amino Acids or EEAs. The EAAs are amino acids that the body cannot make, so they must come from your diet and supplements. As well, Leucine makes up approximately 8% of your body’s total amino acid content. Plus, it is among the most concentrated amino acids in your muscles.

L-Isoleucine – 1,250 mg

Isoleucine is important for muscle growth by supporting protein synthesis, the production of hemoglobin, and post-workout recovery.

L-Valine – 1,250 mg

This final BCAA supports protein synthesis and helps regulate energy production. And when utilized during a workout can help push to that next level.

EAA/Amino Blend

An important point about the EAAs is that while Leucine is the primary driver of protein synthesis, all of them support Leucine’s role in this process. That makes an amino supplement like Code Red Series Amino even more important.

L-Taurine – 1,975 mg

Taurine is not an EAA, but it is a type of amino acid. You usually see it in energy drinks because it supports positive mental function. It also pulls water into your muscle cells, creating water-based muscle pumps and hydrating your muscles. We all know that the better hydrated you are the better your performance will be.

L-Glutamine – 100 mg

L-Glutamine might not an essential amino acid, but it does become essential in times of stress, making it a conditionally essential amino acid. That’s because stress depletes the body’s levels of Glutamine. Stress includes the physical stress of working out. Also, Glutamine is the most dominant amino acid in muscle tissue. It supports protein synthesis and recovery. Also, it helps preserve muscle tissue in times of calorie restriction.

L-Lysine Hydrochloride – 100 mg

L-Lysine an amino acid to help with proper growth and the production of carnitine has also been shown in correlation with cortisol or your stress hormone to help keep it under control with the promotion of relaxation and lower stress. If you keep this cortisol hormone in check you will find it easier for your body with optimal recovery. In addition L-Lysine has been shown to help with HGH secretion in adults.

L-Threonine – 100 mg

It’s best known for its role in forming the foundation of connective tissues like collagen and elastin. It also helps regulate digestion, mood and muscle growth. Essential amino acids like threonine are the building blocks of proteins. They play a vital role in the structure of our bones, muscles and skin

L-Phenylalanine – 100 mg

This amino supports muscle contractions and promotes a more positive mood, better concentration, and improved motivation. The body uses phenylalanine to produce the neurotransmitter norepinephrine. This neurotransmitter has many important functions, including: helping signals travel between the brain and the body’s nerve cells.

L-Tryptophan – 50 mg

L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid that helps the body make proteins and certain brain-signaling chemicals. Your body changes L-tryptophan into a brain chemical called serotonin. Serotonin helps control your mood and sleep.

L-Methionine – 50 mg

Methionine supports digestion and promotes fat metabolism. It also acts as an antioxidant. It may detoxify harmful substances in the body. These include heavy metals. It may also help prevent fat deposits in your liver and can help ease fatigue and reduce the risk of early balding.

L-Histidine – 25 mg

This amino supports digestion, protein synthesis, and muscle repair. It’s used in growth, repair of damaged tissues, and making blood cells. This can also help protect nerve cells and used by the body to make histamine.

Coconut Water Concentrate – 400 mg

Coconut water is a concentrated source of electrolyte minerals and other nutrients. In addition, Coconut water also contains flavonoids which are antioxidants.

Final Takeaway

I use some form of aminos in my intra-workout every single time I step into the gym. I generally add 1-2 servings in 1L of water so I can sip it throughout my entire workout. So I am pretty picky on the flavor. I will say this definitely tastes like sweet tea to me. Im from Georgia and could drink this all day.
