Alpha Supps Fails To Meet Label Claims on Alpha Iso protein according to test results

According to test results, Alpha Supps, a sports nutrition brand based out of Mcallen, Texas, has failed to meet label claims on their Alpha Iso whey protein isolate product. A source has provided Fitness Informant with test results from Eurofins Scientific on 12 different containers of Alpha Supps Alpha Iso whey protein isolate. According to the test results, seven failed to meet the label claim of 25g protein per serving.

Alpha Supps sells dietary supplements. The brand sells items like protein powders, pre-workout powders, fat burners and wellness products. Alpha Supps sells products online at their website and wholesale through brick-and-mortar store locations. Alpha Supps’ official website (https://alphasupps.com) states:

“With fully transparent supplement labels, and science-based ingredients, we fine tune product formulations with ingredient dosages that work and set you up for success. Unlike most competitors, utilizing proprietary blends simply seeking to make a profit, Alpha Supps takes pride in transparency and honesty to show you exactly what you’re investing in. The biggest investment, is the investment in ourselves, and we strive to encourage you and be with you along the way.”

Alpha Supps Alpha Iso SFPAlpha Supps Alpha Iso is a whey protein isolate powder available in two different sizes (2lb and 5lb) with seven different flavor offerings. A whey protein isolate is a protein supplement made from whey that has been processed to remove fat, lactose, and some vitamins and minerals. Whey protein isolate is made by drying pasteurized whey and using separation techniques to remove non-protein components. This process results in a product that is at least 90% protein. Alpha Supps Alpha Iso whey protein isolate label claims that users are getting 25g of protein per serving. Test results showed that as little as 6.39g of protein per serving was detected through testing, which is 25.6% of label claim. [See exhibit A]

Units of Alpha Supps Alpha Iso whey protein isolate was obtained by a source through Alpha Supps website and brick-and-mortar retailers. Seven units were purchased via AlphaSupps.com website and five units from retail locations. These units were then sent to a testing lab Eurofins Scientific, a world leader in food, environment, pharmaceutical and cosmetic product testing, discovery pharmacology, forensics, advanced material sciences, and in agroscience Contract Research services. The units sent to Eurofins lab were sealed, untampered with containers as verified by Eurofins testing policy. [See exhibit D].

Units from Alpha Supps were tested by Eurofins via the DUMAS method. The Dumas method is a combustion-based technique used to determine the nitrogen content of a sample and is often used to analyze the protein content of foods. The DUMAS method has become the standard testing method to analyze protein content in foods.

According to the test results by Eurofins on Alpha Supps Alpha Iso whey protein isolate show that seven of the 12 units tested failed to meet the 25g protein per serving label claim. Exhibit A shows those test results on official Eurofins letterhead with the source information redacted. Table 1 below summarizes those results and includes flavor description, lot number, expiration date and protein content detected per serving per the testing results from Eurofins.

Two distinct differences can be noticed in the test results on Alpha Supps Alpha Iso whey protein isolate from Eurofins. The units that failed to meet label claims, according to the test results, all have a common formatted lot number. These contain a six-digit identifier. The expiration dates of these units are all dated November 2026 and after. The units that meet label claims, according to the test results, contain a 15-digit identifier. The expiration dates on these units are all dated June 2026 and prior.

In addition to the differenced noticed in the lot coding and the expiration dates, differences can also be noticed on the way these are printed on the bottom of the tubs by the manufacture. The units that failed to meet label claims, according to the test results, are printed in a different ink color, font and format. Figure 2 below shows the print, font, format, lot coding and expiration date on a unit that failed to meet label claims according to the test results. This unit tested out at 12.5g per serving according to the test results.

Fitness Informant presented these findings to Alpha Supps including all test results, summary and photos of the lot and date coding on the units. Alpha Supps informed Fitness Informant that they only use one contract manufacture for their Alpha Supps Alpha Iso whey protein isolate products. Fitness Informant has not been able to confirm who manufactures Alpha Supps Alpha Iso whey protein isolate products.

Alpha Supps did provide Fitness Informant with test results from BioChroma Analytical Labs, LLC for six of their flavors [see Exhibit C]. BioChroma Analytical Labs LLC is based out of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in the heart of Texas.

These results are consistent with the test results from Eurofins on the units that contained the 15-digit lot number. The test results provided by Alpha Supps are summarized below in Table 3.

The lot numbers tested by Alpha Supps at BioChroma Analytical Labs, LLC match the lot numbers of the units tested by Eurofins on the six units that met label claims (the 15-digit lot coding), according to the test results. Test results were not provided to Fitness Informant from Alpha Supps on any unit containing the six-digit lot coding format. Alpha Supps informed Fitness Informant that they do not have any six-digit lot code units in their warehouse. A request was made from Fitness Informant to Alpha Supps to request a retain from their manufacture matching the six-digit lot codes that failed to meet label claims per Eurofins’ testing results. Manufactures are required to keep physical retains on production products.

Fitness Informant did reach out to Alpha Supps legal team for an official comment. No comment was provided.
