This product is a blend of 5 patented ingredients that work to optimize gut health. SuperHuman Gut provides you with the essentials including: digestive enzymes, probiotics, postbiotics and absorption support. All of these things are essential to gut health, and we believe Alpha Lion is covering the basis with this product.

Ingredients

CoreBiome™ (30% yield Tributyrin) – 1000mg

We start off with CoreBiome, a brand-new ingredient from Compound Solutions. This is a postbiotic, which are essentially byproducts of food digestion and metabolization. It is comprised of a short fatty acid that’s main function is delivering butyrate to the intestines. Your body normally gets butyrate through the digestion of vegetables, as it helps to maintain the integrity of your intestinal lining.

The active ingredient is Tributyrin, which is a prodrug for butyric acid (usually produced by fiber following digestion). We see several studies that demonstrate tributyrin supplementation as an effective means to increase intestinal structure, and improve microbiota and metabolites. We are yielding a total of 300mg of tributyrin here, which is a solid dose that will achieve the wanted results.

DigeZyme® (Enzyme Complex) – 100mg

Here we are getting a pretty common and well-known ingredient with this multi enzyme complex. This complex has five specific digestive enzymes that will allow for better digestion, and absorption of your nutrition. These enzymes can sometimes be deficient in your gut for a variety of reasons, leading to the inadequate nutritional intake and malabsorption. These molecules work to facilitate the digestive process by breaking down the protein, carbs and fats you consume into forms that are usable to the body.

One pilot study looks at how DigeZyme affects the absorption and bioavailability of Vitamin C. In this particular study, researchers compared the bioavailability of BioPerine with and without the addition of DigeZyme. Researchers found that both of these experimental trials outperformed the control group by a long shot. However, it was also found that the addition of DigeZyme provided a clinically significant increase in bioavailability when compared to BioPerine alone.

A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 2016 assessed the effect DigeZyme has on Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). In this trial, 20 healthy male subjects were given either a placebo or a 50mg capsule of DigeZyme 3 times daily (150mg per day) for a period of three days. The results showed that through DigeZyme supplementation, the pain and tenderness associated with DOMS in the experimental group were reduced to a clinically significant degree. Both of these above trials were conducted within a small patient population, for a very short trial period. We would love to see more large-scale studies in the future on this ingredient to further strengthen the clinical benefits it claims.

We are getting 100mg of DigeZyme here. Many studies  that show the clinical significance of this ingredient use around 150mg daily; however, those studies use DigeZyme for just a short trial period. As a daily supplement, 100mg should be a solid dose to improve digestion health and absorption.

LactoSpore® (6 Billion CFU per gram) – 100mg

Next Alpha Lion gives us the branded probiotic, LactoSpore®. This particular probiotic contributes lactic acid bacteria, which is the most abundant bacteria species out of the 400 that inhabit the human gut biome. The strength of LactoSpore® Alpha Lion has chosen is 6 billion CFU per gram, so here we are yielding a total of 600 million CFU.

This probiotic gives a specific bacterium from the lactobacillus family, bacillus coagulans. This particular bacterium is thought to be the most superior and have the most potential in the regulation of the gut biome. It forms spores when it reaches the acidic environment of the stomach, creating lactic acid and preventing the growth of unwanted pathogens.

 We see the main two mechanisms by which LactoSpore affects the body are through the improvement of gut microflora, and the production of short-chain fatty acids. This probiotic contributes to the growth of the healthy bacteria you want in your gut biome, while preventing the growth of other viral/bacterial pathogens. Secondly, it produces short-chain fatty acids similar in function to tributyrin (mentioned above). These serve as energy sources for intestinal cells, and also function to facilitate lipogenesis and gluconeogenesis. 

PepZin GI® (Zinc-L-Carnosine complex) – 75mg

This ingredient is a crystalline chelate compound that is comprised of 2 active ingredients: L-carnosine and zinc. The physiological benefits of these 2 ingredients have been known since the 1980s, however, this particular form of the compound allows the effects to be exerted directly on the cells of the stomach lining. We see vast benefits from this compound including, anti-oxidant, membrane stabilizing, immunomodulating, and tissue repairing properties.

This zinc-carnosine chelate compound is most beneficial to the healthy individual for its ability to support a healthy gut biome. Studies show that harmful bacteria are reduced, and the beneficial/good bacteria is maintained in order to create an optimal gut biome. This bacterial balance supports the maintenance of a healthy mucosal stomach lining.

One significant benefit of PepZin GI is the unique anti-ulcer properties it exhibits. It has tissue healing effects in acute and chronic stomach ulcers. This compound actually adheres to ulcer lesions in the stomach and remain there for quite some time, which is thought to be what causes the reduction in pain and improvement of tissue repair.

We are getting a total of 75mg in a full serving of SuperHuman Gut. It is recommended (per the ingredient website) that healthy adults consume this ingredient twice daily for a total of 75mg daily. We are right on par with this dosage here.

AstraGin® – 75mg

This ingredient is included in this formula for its ability to enhance ingredient absorption and increase nutrient uptake in the gut. AstraGin is a natural compound that has a plethora of research supporting its use as a digestive aid and is used religiously across the supplement industry. AstraGin has also been shown to promote a healthy intestinal lining by reducing inflammation while encouraging tight muscle junctioning. 

AstraGin has been studied alongside many ingredients that are regularly used on the market today. Here are just a few, and the effect AstraGin has on their absorption:

We are getting 75mg of AstraGin here with SuperHuman Gut. We usually see this ingredient dosed between 25-50mg, so we are more than happy with the amount we are getting here. This ingredient should work to increase the absorption of the other ingredients in this formula while also having a positive effect on intestinal inflammation.
