Meal replacement shakes are a popular category of sports nutrition products due to the busy lives of many people in the world today. It is easy to quickly mix a shake, chug and go. The problem with this is that most consumers drinking these shakes have no idea what they are actually drinking. They could be drinking sweet whey or WPC34 and cheap carbs like dextrose, but they wouldn’t know the difference.
There are companies out there that do care about the consumer, MFIT Supps being one of them. MFIT Supps is backed by A&Z Pharmaceuticals which is a great thing when it comes to manufacturing. Why is this important? They manufacture to pharmaceutical grades, meaning it is the best of the best. What is listed on the label is exactly what you’re getting.
Getting what is on the label is important in a meal replacement formula, or a daily essentials formula as MFIT Supps calls it. You want to ensure you are getting the vitamins, nutrients and minerals. You also want to make sure you are getting a quality product, versus a product using cheap nutrients to pad their margins.
MFIT Supps is a business, they need to make money, but they are not doing it at the expense of the consumer. Their products are well formulated with the best interest of the consumers in mind.
MFIT Supps Victus Daily Essentails Formula / Meal Replacement Formula
To understand the quality behind Victus, it is important we discuss the supplement facts with you.
Protein – 35g
MFIT Supps Victus uses three different protein sources to give you 35g of complete protein. The first protein source is whey protein concentrate (WPC). Whey protein concentrate is one of the most popular sources of protein. It is popular because it is high quality, digests easy (for most) and absorbs quickly into the system. WPC can be between 34%-89% quality. Traditionally, companies like MFIT Supps are going to use a WPC80, which is the industry’s highest quality WPC.
The second source of protein is whey protein isolate (WPI). The difference between whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate is the protein levels, fats and lactose levels. Whey protein isolate digests and absorbs quicker than whey protein concentrate. WPI, by definition, must be at least 90% protein or higher. WPI essentially has no lactose. Those with lactose issues can traditionally consume WPI.
The third and final protein source is casein protein. Casein protein is a slower digesting protein. This is a good thing because your body can only digest and absorb so much protein at one time. By including a slow digesting protein like casein, consumers can get a full 35g serving of protein that feeds them over time. WPI will absorb first, then WPC and finally casein.
Carbohydrates – 33g
Carbs are not the devil. In a true daily essentials formula you better have carbs. We get 33g carbs from several sources. The first source of carbs comes directly from the proteins listed above. The amount of carbs in the three proteins will contribute to the 33g overall.
Victus also includes a ModCarb® Blend. ModCarb® comes from our friends over at FutureCeuticals. ModCarb® is formulated from six organic, gluten free grains — oats, amaranth, buckwheat, chia, millet and quinoa. Moral of the story: these are real carbs, not synthetic. We get a full 25g of ModCarb®. ModCarb® is one of the industry’s best real-food carb source used in the sports nutrition market.
Fats – 7g
Healthy fats are essential to a healthy life. Victus gives us 7g of fat per serving. This amount isn’t that high considering the sources which contribute to the fats. The first source, much like carbs. comes from the three protein sources. This amount of fat is most likely minimal, but still contributes nonetheless. The main source of fats in Victus comes from MCTs (medium chain triglycerides). According to WebMD, athletes sometimes use MCTs for nutritional support during training, to increase exercise performance, for decreasing body fat and increasing lean muscle mass, and for weight loss. Although the formula does not disclose how much fat comes from MCTs, looking at the rest of the label it does not appear there are other sources that would contribute besides the ones listed here.
Digestive Enzymes – 100mg
We get 100mg of an enzyme blend that contains six ingredients. The first ingreidnet is not a digestive enzyme, per se, but is more of a carb source. We get Maltodextrin. As noted by the total amount of the blend, this is used in small trace amounts that won’t have a large impact on overall carbohydrates or GI. Maltodextrin is regarded as safe and used in many foods and dietary supplements.
Bromelain is an enzyme extract derived from the stems of pineapples. Bromelain has many uses, but one of the main uses for it is for reducing inflammation. Many athletes use bromelain to reduce muscle soreness after exercise.
Papain comes from the papaya plant. It is used to help breakdown proteins into their simpler forms of peptides and amino acids. It has also been said that papain can reduce inflammation as well.
Protease is another enzyme that breaks proteins down into their simpler state of peptides and amino acids. Protease can also aid in immune support.
Amylase is an enzyme used to breakdown carbohydrates. Amylase is present in saliva where it aids in the breakdown of starches and glycogen into simple sugars.
Lastly, Cellulase is used. Cellulase is an enzyme that catalyze cellulolysis, the decomposition of cellulose and of some related polysaccharides.
Long story short on enzymes, they aid in the breakdown of macro nutrients to be used quicker by the body for their intended purpose (muscle growth, energy, etc).
Vitamins/Minerals
Victus contains many different vitamins and minerals. A quick look at the label shows that it contains key vitamins and minerals at 100% daily value on such vitamins like Vitamin A, C, D, E, K, B6, B12 and more. Other key minerals like Zinc, Mangabese, Iron and Potassium as in Victus as well.
Not only are you getting good macros with digestive enzymes, you are also getting a full spectrum of vitamins and minerals.
Stevia Leaf Extract – 155mg
Unlike most meal replacement shakes, MFIT Supps elected to use Stevia for their sweetener. As it pertains to taste, you can tell it uses Stevia, but the taste is still very good on both chocolate and vanilla. There are no artificial sweeteners in Victus.
Final Takeaway
If you are on-the-go a lot a meal replacement shake may be an option for you. Victus from MFIT Supps is more than just protein, carbs and fats. It is high quality protein, high quality carbs, high quality fats with the addition of digestive enzymes and a full spectrum of vitamins and minerals. The taste is not impacted negatively by Stevia. You can still taste the chocolate and the vanilla.
Victus is a solid option for those looking to get more calories into their diet, or a quick “meal” while at work or on the go. While many people may turn to a protein bar, Victus is the better option as it uses both fast and slow digesting proteins, low GI carb sources and quality fats in MCT.
Victus will be a product we use during prep to get more macro friendly calories into our plan. If you’re looking for a naturally sweetened option that tastes good and provides you what you need, MFIT Supps Victus is a solid choice among the field of meal replacement shakes.
