Revive MD is back again, this time showing off their Liver support product. Revive MD is a brand that take your health into consideration, something many sports nutrition supplement companies fail to do. Revive MD is also a brand that focuses on bodybuilders, a group of lifters who put their bodies and organs under a lot of stress.
Revive MD Liver
You liver does amazing things in your body, it is essentially the chemical factory of your organs. Your liver is so important, that at any given moment there is 13% of your body’s blood in it. Did you know that from 2000-2015, there was a 31% increase of chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. Since your liver detoxifies your body, produces bile, converts excess glucose to glycogen, plus a lot more, it makes sense to keep it healthy.
Fun fact about your liver, unlike many other organs in your body, it has the power to regenerate. So unlike your kidneys, if you have some liver damage, some proper care may help restore your liver function. With that said, we certainly suggest keeping your liver healthy as opposed to doing damage and worrying about it later.
This is where Revive MD comes it. Let’s take a look at their Liver product, and see how it may be something you should consider adding to your daily supplement regimen.
N-Acetyl-Cysteine – 1g
NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) is already one of the most popular ingredients for liver health. It is a precursor to Glutathione, and is a powerful antioxidant with a wealth of research supporting it. It is actually used to treat acetaminophen overdoses! If you don’t know, acetaminophen is an OTC pain reliever, which can be hepatotoxic at higher doses.
With the research behind NAC, it’s no wonder why bodybuilders taking oral steroids (which are also hepatotoxic) often supplement with NAC. Not only is it good for your liver, it has actually been shown to be beneficial for acne. According to a study, 1.2 grams of NAC per day was shown to reduce acne regions after 8 weeks.
At 1g per dose, this is dosed well. If you take the recommended 2 doses per day, you’re getting 2 grams of NAC, which is even better. It should be noted that NAC has poor bioavailability, which is why it’s nice to see the inclusions of AstraGin® and BioPerine® in here.
Milk Thistle Extract – 1g (80% Silymarin)
Another common ingredient found in liver products, Milk Thistle is usually one of the first ingredients that comes to mind when people think about liver health. While not as well-researched as NAC or TUDCA, there is certainly some benefits for liver health.
Milk Thistle contains Silymarin, which is what we want out of Milk Thistle. It has been shown to have hepatoprotective properties. It does this by helping in Glutathione production. Milk Thistle has also been shown to increase the lifespan of people suffering from Cirrhosis.
At 1g of Milk Thistle, 80% of which is Silymarin, you are getting a solid dose in Revive MD Liver. Of course, if you take the recommended two doses per day, you get 2g of Milk Thistle per day.
TUDCA – 300mg
Next up, we have TUDCA, which is actually our favorite liver health ingredient. We call is TUDCA, as it is easier to pronounce than Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid. TUDCA is a water soluble bile acid.
According to a study, TUDCA was compared to UDCA (TUDCA without the Taurine) in patients with Biliary Cirrhosis. Both were shown to be beneficial for improving liver enzymes. Another study compared doses of 500mg to 1000mg and 1500mg of TUDCA. All 3 doses were shown to be effective for improving liver enzymes, however the two higher doses showed benefits for improving cholesterol levels as well.
TUDCA has been shown to be effective at doses as low as 10mg-13mg for improving liver enzymes and restoration. If you take Liver as directed, which is 2 servings per day, you get 600mg, which is a good dose.
AstraGin® – 50mg
AstraGin® is an ingredient that aids with absorption. At 50mg, it is dosed correctly in Revive MD Liver.
BioPerine® – 10mg
BioPerine® is Black Pepper Extract, it is another ingredient that is used for aiding in absorption. At 10mg it is dosed well.
Dosing
Before we wrap this up, we have to mention that Revive MD suggests supplementing with Liver in a fasted or semi-fasted state. So if you’re taking this two times per day, we’d suggest taking it before breakfast and sometime before a meal later in the day.
Final Takeaway
Revive MD Liver is a well-rounded product, and if you care about your long-term health, it may be worth taking year round. If you’re a lifter, and you are taking certain drugs which you know may be putting undue stress on your liver, or simply drink alcohol more than you should, Revive MD has your health in mind.
It’s a pretty simple profile, just 3 ingredients which have all have research supporting their use for liver health, along with 2 ingredients that may aid in absorption. This is certainly worth more to your long term health than any stim-based pre workout will be.
