We then look at effectiveness. A high quality protein will be effective. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.

Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out Strawberry.

Mixability refers to how well the protein powder mixes in 12oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.

Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Ingredients Profile

Pitbull Labs 100% Whey uses Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate (the fastest absorbing protein on the market) at 51% and then whey protein concentrate 80 at 49%. Clean AF. This is what we like to see. You get the fast absorption of the WPI and then the slower, but still very effective WPC. Finally, a blend that makes sense.

PBL does use artificial flavoring, which I know for a fact they want to eliminate all together. They also use Sucralose for a sweetener. Also listed is Stevia Extract.

Overall this profile is much better than any blend I have ever seen. Why? Because they tell us what we are getting. In this blend, we are getting 51% Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate (minimum of 90% quality) with 49% Whey Protein Concentrate 80 (this is the highest quality WPC available). Because of the use of high quality proteins, this product is going to be effective. This is where the 2lb tub comes in as a benefit. Strawberry was never my favorite protein powder flavor; however, PBL does it right with theirs. It tastes like a strawberry milk shake.

If you like strawberry anything, then this is right up your alley. A few more shakes than normal and they would go away. This varies depending on how much liquid you use, what kind of liquid and what kind of container you are using to blend it.

We used a blender bottle with the ball. We would typically use 10-12 ounces of water.

You can compare this to a 5lb isolate that retails for $80. That means you are getting 1lb less than you would be with an industry leading isolate for the same price. This industry leading WPI also retails fro $39.99 for their 2lb container.

With that said, the industry leading isolate isn’t using Hydrolyzed Isolate. Is it worth paying more for? That’s your call, but in my opinion, this is a higher quality protein blend that you don’t find every day. Some people will argue WPC is better than WPI, and vice versa. Ingredients Profile

The 2:1:1 ratio is the scientifically backed ratio to aid in muscle recovery. However, recent studies indicate the BCAAs alone do not increase protein synthesis, EAAs are needed.

Hydro BCAA includes 3g of EAAs (Essential Amino Acids). The inclusion of EAAs with BCAAs (BCAAs are EAAs as well) will help speed up protein synthesis because our bodies cannot produce them. We love the inclusion of EAAs.

Collectively the BCAAs and EAAs make up 10g of the 14.5g serving size. Sucralose is used as a sweetener (as it is with many supplements). Beet Root Powder is used for color, but it does provide the benefit of NO production as well.

Overall, I like the use of not just a 2:1:1 BCAA, but also the use of other EAAs. Effectiveness

But BCAA alone is not effective in speeding up protein synthesis without the inclusion of other EAAs. This product contains 3g of EAAs. Studies indicate that protein synthesis is best when BCAAs are mixed with a whey protein (getting the EAAs from the whey).

I can say that I rarely suffered from DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) while using this. I would take this product during my workout and sometimes later during the day.

Overall, based on profile, this product is effective. We get 7g here plus an additional 3g of EAAs. The serving size is 14.5g. I mixed mine in the largest amount of water possible (24oz). You do find some particles floating in the water, but overall it isn’t bad.

Ingredients Profile

This is important for those who are trying to gain weight. I would like to see more fats, honestly, but overall, his is a solid macro profile.

At eight scoops, yes that’s a TON of gainer, you get 1,000 calories, 80g of protein, 124g of carbs and 20g of fats. Now, I beleive 80g of protein is too much to consume at one sitting, so I elected to go with 3-4 scoops at a time.

The protein is derived from Whey Protein Concentrate, Whole Milk Powder, Whey Protein Isolate and Milk Protein Isolate. This means you are getting the faster absorbing proteins in WPC and WPI. Milk protein contains approximately 80% casein protein which is slow digesting. Whole milk powder is a unique ingredient to be used in a supplement. I don’t mind it, because whole milk can contribute to gains. However, if you have issues with lactose, then this is not for you. Overall, the protein sources are solid. I would like to know how much of each was used.

Carbs sources come from Maltodextrin, Carb10 and Dextrose. Maltodextrin and Dextrose are cheap carb sources that are fast absorbing. Essentially sugar. These two ingredients can cause bloat. Carb10 was created by Compound Solutions and do not cause the spike in blood-sugar levels like Maltodextrin and Dextrose. I love the use of Carb10, but when you combine it with the two other carb sources I am not sure if you can love it as much. Yes, you want fast absorbing carbs post-workout, and typically gainers are going to use cheaper carbs to do this.

Fats come from various sources as well. The fats come from Coconut Oil Creamer, Avocado Oil Powder, Coconut Oil Powder and MCT Powder. You hear of a lot of people adding coconut oil to their coffee for healthy fats. That’s essentially what they are doing here with the creamer and the oil. The use of Avocado Oil Powder is fun and encouraged. Unfortunately, MCT Powder is used last on the blend. This would be have great to be first.

Overall, you have to understand that affordable weight gainers have to sacrifice higher quality ingredients so they can keep the price low. In that sense, this is an effective weight gainer. If you take the recommended dosage of 8 scoops, that is 1,000 calories. You gain weight by taking in more calories than you use for fuel.

I would love to see a higher quality carb sources used and a higher proportion of fats. I believe that would make it more effective to gain weight. Regarding the taste of the actual powder, I would give it a 7. With the addition of the marshmallows, I gave it an 8. It does taste like the bowl of milk left over after eating Lucky Charms that still has marshmallows in it. We tested this using 3 scoops, as that made the most sense for me and my weight gain goals. With that said, I used 10oz of water. The only thing that didn’t mix was the marshmallows. The powder mixed much better than I thought it would. Rarely did I ever get a clump. I used a typical blender bottle with a ball.

Major Mass retails for around $45 for 60 scoops. If you take the recommended 8 scoops, that gives you 7.5 servings. That’s a week of workouts. $45 for a week is a lot, but you would be getting 1,000 calories. I would rather spend that on whole food, honestly.

If you can get by with 3-4 scoops, then you get 15-servings for $45. That is $3 a serving. That is doable in my mind. Yes, we could have better quality ingredients all around and a more transparent label, but I think $45 for 4lbs of a gainer is in-line with the competition. Ingredients Profile

Ingredients directed towards increasing body temperature, providing energy (boosting metabolism) and appetite suppressants.

EPH Bomb starts with caffeine anhydrous. Caffeine will stimulate the central nervous system to provide energy, which in-turn, will increase your metabolism in your body. You’ll have have an increased sense of energy.

EPH Bomb then moves into a proprietary blend. Not a fan of these, especially when stimulants are being used. The first ingredient listed is β-phenylethylamine. β-phenylethylamine has been known to increase mood and aid in weight loss. The supplement company that produced β-phenylethylamine stated it was a mood enhancer and aids in concentration and focus. Not a lot of correlation with weight loss, but yet it is still found in many diet pills. Not a lot of studies exists to support weight loss, but some state that it does help suppress appetite.

The next ingredient of the proprietary blend is 2-amino-5-methylhexane, also known as DMHA. This is the natural occurring form of DMHA. DMHA is a stimulant much like caffeine, but stronger. It will help speed up metabolism and improve energy.

Nettle Root Extract is used next. This ingredient, also known as Stinging Nettle Root, is used primarily to treat joint pain. However, there are some studies that state it does help with obesity. The common thought is that by removing metabolic waste, in which Nettle Root Extract helps with, you will reduce body fat.

Synephrine HCL is very similar to ephedrine, but not as potent per Examine.com. This is also known as Bitter Orange. This is used towards the end of the prop blend. We do see this ingredient commonly used in fat burners.

Last, we get Yohimbine HCL. Yohimbine is a fat burner compound, again, commonly used in fat burners. This is the last ingredient used in the prop blend. Yohimbine works by increasing adrenaline in your body that helps regulate your fat cells to aid in fat burning.

Overall, EPH Bomb doesn’t use any unique ingredients. It is pretty standard. Dosage

Caffeine Anhydrous is the first ingredient at 250mg. This is the only transparent ingredient on the label. This is sufficient in terms of boosting energy.

Next, we get the proprietary blend. The blend is 245mg of five ingredients. β-phenylethylamine is commonly dosed starting at 100mg, which is a very mild dose. For more intense effects, you want 250-500mg. As you can see, this prop blend doesn’t allow for that to be accomplished. β-phenylethylamine is also one of the ingredients without a lot of studies backing the effectiveness on weight loss. We can assume that this is on the lower side of the dosage requirements.

DMHA tends to be dosed between 150-200mg (at least in pre-workouts). It is safe to say, since it is the second ingredient, that it would not be dosed that high. We can assume this is on the lower side of dosage requirements.

Nettle Root Extract has studies typically having dosage around 300mg per day. I will let you figure it out on this one. Hint, not dosed high enough.

Synephrine HCL is said to be dosed properly between 50mg and 60mg per day. This is towards the end of the ingredient list. We cannot say with 100% certainty, but it is highly likely that this is under dosed as well.

Lastly, we get Yohimbine. Yohimbine is dosaged between 14-22mg depending on your weight. We can assume that this may be properly dosed, but we typically see supplement companies use 5-10mg in their products.

On paper, EPH Bomb uses generic weight loss ingredients, but it appears that they are highly under dosed. Effectiveness

With the inclusion of caffeine and DMHA, you will feel the boost in energy. With that, you may experience a crash. With an increase in energy, you will get an increase in metabolism. Even with DMHA being potentially under dosed, Caffeine Anhydrous is dosed around where we’d expect it.

Regarding appetite suppressant, I cannot get on-board with that. I ate normal while using this product. Increasing metabolism is going to make you hungry. You better have a strong appetite suppressing ingredient to help you limit those hunger cravings.

In terms of thermogenic, any inclusion of caffeine may increase your body temp. However, I like to see cayenne pepper being used here or something similar to help with increased body temp.

I didn’t find that this product was super effective with fat loss. Generic ingredients being under dosed does not help their cause.

With that said, if you are familiar with the industry, the DMHA dosed in this product is under dosed. At $35 a bottle, I feel there are better alternatives on the market.

Someone who wants to try a product in this category for the first time may want to test this, but I would point you in a different direction. Maybe we find a pair of over the ear headphones we like, but the quality sucks. Or maybe they can’t handle impact or sweat like you’d wish.

Others might fit well, but sound awful. Some have wires. Some don’t. Then you have the ones that are perfect…for four months and then they break. We’ve all experienced this before.

This put us on the road to find the perfect set of headphone or earbuds for the gym. That brought us to the company Jabra.

Jabra makes headsets for all sorts of areas. Most notably, they make the phones and headsets for a lot of the businesses in the world. In fact, my office uses Jabra headsets for our phone systems. I knew that Jabra was solid in terms of tech when it came to headsets, so I was not shocked to find out that they made these ear buds that were supposedly great.

We were able to nail down a pair of Jabra Sport Pulse wireless headphones. With that said, there is still an ear-to-ear wire, but a Bluetooth connection to your phone doesn’t require a wire there. The Jabra Sport Pulse headphones come with a built-in heart rate monitor which connects to the downloadable Jabra app (which provides a lot of cool functions). Design

(8/10)[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]The Jabra Sport Pulse headphones are built with a solid design to back the functionality (to be discussed later) of the headphones. The Jabra Sport Pulse headphone are extremely light weight and designed to fit snug into your inner ear.

First, these are not true wireless ear buds. There is a wire connected from the right earbud to the left earbud. They are, however, a Bluetooth connection away from your smart phone. This means that there are no wires connecting the headphones to your streaming device, but you will still have one ear-to-ear. For some, this is OK. For others, it is an annoyance. For us, we have tested them all, and we understand that the headphones with an ear-to-ear wired connection are going to be more economically feasible for the consumer.

Second, these are not over-the-ear headphones. What does that mean? It means that these are not Beats Studio. They are designed to go inside your ear canal. This is where Jabra does a very nice job.

Included with your Jabra Sport Pulse headphones are various connectors to ensure a secure fit (which will improve sound quality). The package includes (4) different sizes of EarWings. These are what hold the headphone in your ear. You get to choose between small, medium, medium plus and large. You want to select the size that best fits your ear. The size we selected fit comfortably in our ears. We could shake our head vigorously and they wouldn’t fall out. They are also made of rubber, so sweat isn’t an issue.

You also get (6) options of EarGels. These are the “tips” that go inside your ear. You can choose small, medium or large in either silicon gel or foam tips. You want to select the one that fits best in your ear to ensure you have optimal sound quality.

The headphones are also designed with a built-in heart rate monitor. This is great to connect to your downloaded Jabra app to determine how many calories you’ve burned, VO2 max test, etc. The nice part about this built-in heart rate monitor is it can connect to third-party apps like Runtastic and MapMyFitness.

The built-in USB port is under the right earbud covered by a plastic protector. This is nice and easy to find, plug in and recharge.

Lastly, you do get the control functionality on the wire itself. Here you can increase or decrease volume. It is also where the microphone is housed for phone calls. You also answer and drop calls with a touch of this area too.

Overall, the design on the Jabra Pulse Sport headphones are nice, for a “wired” set of headphones. We would prefer true wireless but the pricing is double, if not triple. Functionality

(7/10)[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]What is the core function of a set of headphones? To play music that sounds good. Right? The Jabra Sport Pulse headphones also have other functionality when it comes to their Jabra app.

The Jabra app connects to your headphones. Here, it gathers info like heart rate to help you through various methods within the app. Within the app you can plan workouts, test fitness levels, analyze your fitness and have an in-ear personal trainer! This is value-add by Jabra and the Jabra app.

Ease of use is big with headphones. These paired very quickly to our smartphone via Bluetooth connection. Using the headphones (turning them on) is as easy as holding one button. I would say these are “idiot” proof.

Sound quality is huge in the headphone market. We’ve used over-the-ear headphones in the past. These are always going to be optimal to any in-ear headphone (unless they are custom) in terms of sound quality. The bass was good. Again, with the over-the-ear headphones, the bass is superior. Treble was good too. Overall loudness was OK. If we compare to over-the-ear again we would come in inferior. Compared to other in-ear headphones these were on-par. They were loud enough to “dim” the outside surrounding environment. You would have to turn them down or off to hear someone talk to you. One thing to note is that different ear buds provide a better sound quality. The foam tips provide much better sound than the gels.

Range is another big thing on wireless headphones. We set our smartphone down and walked away from it. The connection remained clear for a good 90 feet and then started to cut out. If you leave your phone in one room and walk to another where there is a wall, the range is quite a bit less. There was never an issue with the Bluetooth connection cutting in and out when our phone was with us.

Battery life is OK. You get 5-hours of playtime on the Jabra Sport Pulse. This lasts us about a week in the gym. We have had competitors come in longer, sometimes as much as 10-hours, but we also realize these are less expensive than those counterparts.

Overall, the functionality fits the price level. They work. The sound quality isn’t the greatest on the planet, but it is’t the worse. Durability

The reason we started reviewing headphones was because of the lack of durability in the headphone market. Beats made some OK headphones, but they broke rapidly.

Jabra Sport Pulse headphones are lightweight. If you drop them, no big deal. If you step on them…then you might have an issue. Some of the big players in this space use plastic to secure the headphones in your ears. Here we are using rubber.

The rubber coating on the actual ear buds also provide protection against sweat. On top of that, Jabra provides a 3-year warranty against sweat damage.

The carrying case isn’t anything special. It is a mesh bag with a drawstring to put your headphones in. I would prefer a harder case, something that would protect them better. This is one of the negatives of durability, although it doesn’t directly pertain to the headphones themselves.

Overall, the lightweight of the headphones make these feel as if they lack durability, but they don’t. There’s not much on it that could break compared to some of the competitors on the market. The only negative is the carry case.

Fashionability

Fashionability of the headphones means, “how cool do these look on me?” The fact there is a wire from ear-to-ear makes them less fashionable compared to true wireless headphones like the Jabra Elite Sports. However, they are still discreet in your ear, and not clunky.

They last longer, provide a solid sound quality with the foam tips, and fit extremely well. One issue we’ve had with competitors is that they fall our of our ears. Not here with all the fit options.

These retail for up to $100 a pair. That is on-par with what to expect today. Because Jabra is such a great customer service focused company, and the headphones truly are great, this is a fantastic value. Ingredients Profile

OK, now that we’re passed that, let’s talk about a couple things. First, let’s look at the protein source in this bar then macros. Plus, if there are any sketchy ingredients, we will call them out.

Protein comes from whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate. These are two solid, stable forms of protein that contributes to healthy gains. We are not sure what quality whey protein concentrate is used, and it is used first, but the fact we have concentrate and isolate is a good thing.

Because this is a chocolate coated protein bar, you’d think there would be a lot of sugar, however that is not the case. There is only 4g of sugar in this bar (3g were added). This is overall good when you look at the size of the bar (83g).

Since we mentioned sugar, let’s take a look at the rest of the macros:

Calories: 340
Protein: 30g
Fats: 13g
Carbohydrates: 33g

I am happy with the fats not being double than the original. In fact, this bar only had 3g more of fat while it being 33g larger. Protein is 10g more in this version than the original. Lastly, carbs are doubled in this bar at 33g compared to 17g in the original.

Overall, I don’t mind the larger bar, but if you do only eat half of this, you would get 15g of protein but still the same amount of carbs as the 55g original bar. For bulking, this bar is great. When asked to describe it, the first thing that came to mind was, “very chocolatey.” The label says chocolate and the bar tastes just like that. It’s a good tasting chocolate as well.

This bar is very rich. Another reason you might only want 1/2 at a time is because of the rich flavor. This is because it is a baked bar. I would bet that most of us have had Quest Bars before. These are NOT like them at all. Those can be chalky, these are not.

The one thing about these is that they can almost be too chewy. They are very sticky, especially with this flavor, that it does take some time to eat it. Let’s take Quest Bars for example. Each bar is approximately 60g. You get 12 per box for $25. That’s 720g of bars for $25 which is $.034 per gram. Each MyBar Pro is 83g. Let’s do that same math. That comes out to be $.035 per gram. Is it really that much more? Plus, these trump the taste of Quest…by a long shot. ONE Bars are also 60g and retail for the same as Quest…so not much of an argument here.

Per gram of protein bar, these are right in-line with the competition and they are much better tasting than the vast majority of the competition and have better texture. Don’t let the sticker price shock you. These are the real deal and are worth every penny. Ingredients Profile

IntraMax starts with 6g of Whey Protein Hydrolysate. This is the fastest absorbing form of whey protein on the market. You also get an additional 3g of L-Leucine added to the intra-workout. Recent studies have shown that low protein dosages (6.25g) with higher L-Leucine dosages (5g) actually out perform 25g of protein in terms of protein synthesis. We are VERY close here to matching this study with the added 3g of L-Leucine. The additional L-Leucine supplementation, mixed with the EAAs of the Whey Protein Hydrolysate increases post-workout protein synthesis.

Next, we get three forms of Creatine making up 3g. Creatine helps improve muscular strength and gains. The forms are Creatine Monohydrate, Magnesium Creatine and Creatine Anhydrous. Creatine Monohydrate is the most popular form and effective form of Creatine. This is traditionally dosed at 5g for effectiveness. Some studies indicate that after supplementing with creatine through the “load” phase, you only need 3g of creatine per day to be effective. I am personally still a fan of supplementing with 5g of monohydrate per day. Creatine has been long studied and numerous studies exist.

Next, we get 2,500mg of L-Glutamine, L-Alanine and L-Alanyl-L-Glutamine. This combination helps with muscle recovery and repair. Many studies now show that just L-Glutamine alone doesn’t have a place in sports nutrition. It does help with gut health, but overall does not help with muscle gains or recovery. Studies show that the combination of L-Glutamine and L-Alanyl-L-Glutamine have positive effects on duration exercises at lower dosages.

Betaine is dosed at 2,500mg. This is the clinical dosage of Betaine. Betaine helps with strength output. You typically find this in pre-workouts.

Taurine is used at 1,500mg. Taurine is typically used in pre-workouts to help with strength and endurance. This is typically dosed at 500mg-2,000mg.

GlycerPump, used to increase pumps and used in VasoMax is dosed at 1g. This helps improve blood flow to the muscles which will improve endurance and help with repair and recovery.

Sodium Phosphate is dosed at 200mg and Potassium Phosphate is dosed at 150mg. These ingredients help improve athletic performance.

Overall, this is an all-in-one recovery formula. Effectiveness

If you read the ingredient profile section, you are well aware that this product has solid ingredients used at dosages backed by clinical studies. When you do supplement with IntraMax you can definitely tell you have increased muscle endurance, and increase point to exhaustion.

It also does a very nice job of keeping you hydrated. It quenches your thirst, but at the same time wants you to drink more of it. This is a good thing so you can get these ingredients into your body and then into your muscle tissue.

I have had a lot of orange BCAA products. Many, if not most, taste better than this. This also doesn’t taste a lot like orange, in my opinion.

The issue for a lot of people is the price tag on supplements compared to what you “budget” for them. Intra-workout supplements typically take a backseat to pre-workout and protein powder supplements. This doesn’t bold well for a higher priced premium intra-workout product.

IntraMax is a higher priced PREMIUM intra-workout product. It retails for around $40 and provides 25-servings. Although the studies show that protein synthesis is increased by the ration used in IntraMax, the consumer would rather spend $40 on whey protein and get “more” in their eyes.

With that said, it is hard to justify $40 for 25-servings on an intra-workout when you see BCAA products on the market designed to improve muscle recovery retail for a lot less. HOWEVER, IntraMax is a quality product that does justify a higher price tag.

If IntraMax had a better flavor profile and 5 more servings this would be an easy sell, but I understand it is hard for some to justify it when they don’t “feel” something from an intra-workout as they do with a pre-workout. Is IntraMax worth $40? Yes. Should you buy it? That’s up to you. If you have the money, then I say yes, buy it. We then look at effectiveness. An effective pre-workout supplement will use high quality, proven ingredients, at clinically backed dosages. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.

Ingredients Profile

(10/10)[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]As we mentioned in the beginning, PerformElite is a pre-workout designed for the endurance athlete. You won’t be finding any crazy stimulants in this. You also won’t find any pump ingredients and limited strength ingredients. You will find ingredients that enhance and improve your endurance.

We start with 1,670mg of Beet Root Powder. This does increase blood flow carrying oxygen rich blood to your muscles allowing you to push a little longer. Don’t believe me? Eat a whole bag of beets and you will see. This is a great dosage of Beet Root Powder.

Next, you get 1,500mg of Taurine. Taurine has been shown to increase endurance and strength output. We find this dosed between 500mg-2,000mg. You can do the math, optimal dosage.

PeakO2 is a cool ingredient that we find more and more in endurance enhancing supplements. This is dosed at 1,000mg. Studies have shown that PeakO2 users improved their time to exhaustion by 70-seconds. It also helps with oxygen utilization, oxygen uptake and more. Studies show that optimal dosage is 1g per day. That’s what you’re getting here.

Beta-Alanine is dosed at 3.2g. This is the clinical dosage of Beta-Alanine. Beta-Alanine is used for endurance. Some studies link it to reducing lactic acid (the stuff that can cause muscle soreness or DOMS).

Choline Bitartrate is dosed at 1g. This is a cognitive enhancing ingredient. This is actually pretty high compared to some pre-workouts designed for strength athletes. I am a fan of the higher dosage. You need mental strength while completing endurance activities.

ActiGin, used to prolong endurance and help with recovery, is dosed at 50mg. The recommended daily use of ActiGin is 50mg.

Huperzine-A is a cognitive enhancing ingredient. This is dosed at .05mg or 50mcg. Recommended dosage is 50-200mcg per day. This is at the low end, but still within range.

PerformElite also uses elevATP at 200mg. This is a solid dosage of elevATP which has been shown to improve endurance and output. Typical dosage is 150mg, so you’re getting more than that here.

Lastly, you get 300mg of energy in PURENERGY (150mg) and Caffeine Anhydrous (150mg). PURENERGY extends the half-life of caffeine by 25% meaning you will have prolonged sustained energy. This means you will get the energy right away from the Caffeine A, but not the crash since it uses PURENERGY as well. Think about it, you want a nice sustained energy throughout your endurance activity.

Overall, this is an endurance enhancing pre-workout, nothing more. Effectiveness

(8/10)[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]Again, this is an endurance enhancing supplement. I would not use this for strength training. It’s not what it is meant for. It lacks pump and many of the strength ingredients you would need.

However, for endurance only, this is very effective. I would use this product for my cardio-only days. I am in no-way an endurance athlete, but it did make the 20-30 minutes on the stairmaster go a lot better. You can tell you breath easier and you don’t get tired as quickly.

This is a great pre-workout if you’re training for a 5k, half marathon or a full. You don’t even have to use a lot, but since you’re taking this for an endurance activity, you might as well take it with 12-16oz of water. Value

If you’re an endurance athlete you have to ask yourself, are you willing to pay $40 for 25-servings? That is $1.60 a serving. This is cheaper than Pedialyte or a sports drink, more effective too. BUT if you compare it to other pre-workouts on the market, this lacks a lot of the other main ingredients for strength training.

For the purpose of value here, I compare it to other endurance only pre-workouts, I feel that is fair. At $1.60 a serving it is a good value since it does in fact work. This portion of the review looks at the different ingredients used in the pre-workout, what their intention is and how effectively dosed are each ingredient.

We then look at effectiveness. An effective pre-workout will use high quality, proven ingredients, at clinically backed dosages. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.

Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 12oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.

Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. (9/10)[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]Royal Pre-Workout is a non-stimulant pre-workout. What that means is you won’t find any caffeine or DMAA/DMHA or Eria Jarensis in this product. That’s OK.

Royal Pre-Workout starts with 6g of Citrulline Malate. The clinical dosage of L-Citrulline is 6g. No one can complain about clinical dosages of the pump ingredient Citrulline.

Next, Royal gives us the clinical dosage of Beta Alanine at 3.2g. Beta Alanine has been shown to increase endurance and strength outputs.

Hydromax is up next at 2g. Hydromax, also known as Glycerol, is a popular pump activating ingredient found in many pump activating supplements. At 2g, this is pretty high and favorable to coincide with the 6g of Citrulline Malate. A side note on Hydromax, if exposed to air, it will start to clump.

Taurine is dosed at 1g. Typical dosage of Taurine is 1g – 3g per day (prior to exercise we typically see 500mg – 2,000mg). Taking 1g prior to training has been shown to increase endurance and strength output.

Agmatine Sulfate is dosed at 1g. This is a pain reducer (helps with one more rep) and a pump inducing ingredient by increasing NO levels. This is dosed well at 1g.

L-Tyrosine is dosed at 1g. This is a cognitive enhancing ingredient that we typically see dosed 500mg-2,000mg prior to exercise.

Alpha GPC is one of my favorite nootropics being used today. This comes in at a massive dosage of 600mg. Many companies make a nootropic that doesn’t even include this high of a dosage of Alpha-GPC. This is such a great addition to this non-stim pre-workout that will really enhance your focus.

Royal Pre-Workout also uses elevATP at 150mg. This has been shown to increase strength and power output. The common agreement is 150mg is sufficient dosage amount.

Norvaline is used to increase your pump. Typical dosage is between 100mg-200mg. Royal doses this at 100mg.

Royal does include 5mg of Bioperine to help with absorption.

Lastly, Royal includes 100mcg of Huperzine A. This is a cognitive enhancing ingredient that we typically see dosed between 50mcg-200mcg per day.

Overall, great ingredients used, the only thing this lacks is energy…which would come from caffeine. In terms of a non-stim pre-workout, this is one of the best ingredient profiles on the market. I like my caffeines and use of DMHA in my pre-workouts. However, it was time to give my body a break from stims and check out Royal Pre-Workout.

The most noticeable part of this pre-workout is its cognitive enhancing function. I love Alpha GPC, so at 600mg you are sure to experience a focus in which you typically don’t find in a pre-workout. This is where Royal Pre-Workout tries to get around the lack of energy in the product. The addition of L-Tyrosine and Huperzine A helps contribute to a really great focus. For a non-stim, the focus is amazing.

The other part of this pre-workout is the pump. I am a fan of the 2g of Glycerol aka Hydromax. I also like the use of 6g of Citrulline Malate. Combined with Agmatine Sulfate and Norvaline, you are sure to experience a nice pump. Supplementing with a pump agent may not be necessary based on how you respond to these ingredients. Overall, the pump was decent, but it does take quite a bit for me to get swole.

My takeaway is that this is an effective pre-workout powder. There’s a nice addition of elevATP and a clinical dosage of Beta Alanine to help you power through your pre-workout without the caffeine. I am a huge fan of mango, so the combination of the two like-fruits should deliver, and it does. The common theme for stimulant based, effectively dosed pre-workouts is about $2 per serving. Royal Pre-Workout is 30-servings and retails for $54.99 on the company’s website. That comes in less than $2 per serving. The big thing missing though is the stimulant.

I know a lot of you will pay extra for caffeine. We ran a poll on this and that’s what it showed. So for most, this will be too high of a price tag for a non-stimulant based pre-workout. I would agree.
