Like many brands on April 1st (April Fool’s Day) they tend to “joke” or tease about future product launches. Nine times out of ten these are fake, but every once in awhile there is one that is actually real. That brings us to Cellucor’s C4 Shot Rocks. They teased it via their Instagram channel on April Fool’s Day. Many people called their bluff…but was it a bluff?
Fitness Informant received a package from Cellucor with the words “CONFIDENTIAL” written on them. We wanted to make sure we documented this process, so we recorded the video above to capture the moment. What did we find? We found out that Cellucor C4 Shot Rocks were as real as they come. We even took the liberty to record our first-reaction to the taste of the Cellucor C4 Shot Rocks (also in the above video). Finally, we take a few moments to break down the label, which we will also do now:
You would think that these are just a form of sugar in crystal formats with no functional benefit. That’s where you would be wrong. C4 Shot Rocks are a fully transparent label featuring functional ingredients. We start with 2g CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine. Beta-Alanine can be dosed between 1.6g and 3.2g for optimal effect. Beta-Alanine aids in muscle endurance. L-Citrulline, the precursor to Arginine, is used next at 1g. The clinical dosage of L-Citrulline is 3-5g, but you wouldn’t expect any in this. Citrulline can help improve blood flow. L-Tyrosine is used next at 200mg. This is a cognitive enhancing ingredient that can improve mental clarity and focus. Caffeine is dosed at 200mg in the form of Caffeine Anhydrous. This is going to be the equivalent of two cups of coffee. This should provide a nice impactful source of energy rather quickly. Lastly, Huperzine A is dosed at 100mcg. This is a great dosage of Huperzine A that has cognitive enhancing benefits.
Cellucor’s C4 Shot Rocks are available in Icy Blue Razz and Watermelon. They are 15g each.
Fitness Informant’s POV
You can get the best POV from watching the video above, but impressive is the word I am looking for. Sure, this is not a fully dosed pre-workout, but it’s another form of “5-Hour Energy” in a fun way. You are getting 200mg Caffeine along with several other benefits. It is nostalgic as it brings you back to the days of popping Pop Rocks in your mouth – you can even hear them on the video.
In an industry where there is a lot of copy cat formulas and design principals, this is nice to see as it is something different. Now, will they sell? I think they will as people like this kind of stuff AND they actually taste good.
