Dymatize ISO100 Clear: Fruity Flavors and Performance No Longer Just for Pre-Workouts

By September 2, 2019No Comments

Dymatize is a brand that is synonyms with sports nutrition. Dymatize is one of the first brands to create an isolate protein powder that became a household name. Dymatize ISO100 may be the most populate whey protein isolate on the market today, and maybe even the most popular in the history of sports nutrition. Looking to expand off of the popular ISO100 name, Dymatize launched a ISO100 Clear Ready-To-Drink (RTD) into retailers back in 2016.

Dymatize ISO100 Clear RTDISO100 Clear RTD was well received by consumers. The RTD featured 40g of protein per servings (one bottle). Even more attractive to consumers were the unique flavor offerings in the RTD. Dymatize launched with three flavors: Fruit Punch, Blue Raspberry, and Grape. Those are the same three flavors available today for purchase in gym coolers around and retailers like Bodybuilding.com.

Dymatize saw the success of the RTD, but realized that it was not readily available for everyone. The brand went back to the drawing board and decided it was time to change whey protein isolate flavoring systems by taking the concept from the ready-to-drink and applying it to the powder. What they introduced what Dymatize ISO100 Clear in three flavors: Cherry Watermelon, Pineapple Orange and Mango.

Dymatize ISO100 Clear Powder

Let’s get one thing perfectly clear, Dymatize does NOT use an ion exchange whey system in their ISO100 Clear powder. Why we do we bring this up? Most don’t know this, but in terminology everyone can understand, ion exchange whey is not good. You find this is other “iso” RTDs on the market. The brand doesn’t feature the ion exchange in their RTD or the new powder.

The ISO100 Clear powder has a lot of unique attributes to it that set it apart from competitors on the market. Let’s dive into the main headlines of ISO100 Clear powder to get your more acclimated with the product.

Hydrolyzed/Isolate Blend

ISO100 Clear LabelISO100 Clear from Dymatize starts with two forms of high quality protein sources. We do not know the split between the two but we know that it consists of at least a 50% Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate and 50% Whey Protein Isolate blend. Since Hydrolyzed is listed first, chances are we are getting more of that source versus the Whey Protein Isolate.

The biggest different between a Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate and a Whey Protein Isolate is the digestion rate. Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate is the fastest digesting protein on the market today that has a bioavailability score of 100+. Whey Protein Isolate is just a fraction slower in terms of digestion, but also scores a 100+ on bioavailability score.

Something both sources of whey have in common is minimal to zero lactose. If you have issues with lactose you should be able to take Dymatize ISO100 Clear just fine.

The product contains 20g in total of protein. The serving size is 25g, which means that you are getting 80% protein per serving (meaning you get minimal other stuff).

No Artificial Colors, Flavors or Sweeteners

A new trend in sports nutrition is more of a “natural” feel to products. One way brands are accomplishing this are by removing artificial flavors, dyes and sweeteners. Dymatize ISO100 Clear is exactly what you’d expect it to be, clear. As you will be able to tell from the video above, all three flavors mix clear. This is unique in protein because you typically get the color of the flavors (i.e. chocolate is brown).

Artificial sweeteners like sucralose are used often by brands in sports nutrition. Dymatize elected to sweeten with Stevia. Stevia sweetened products tend to take a slight dive in taste as it is not as “sweet” as sucralose. However, as we will get into, the flavors performed well, even with the stevia sweetened protein powder.

Clean Label

It is important to note that there are only six ingredients used in the making of ISO100 Clear, with two of them coming from protein sources. The other ingredients are natural flavors, citric acid, sea salt and stevia.

The macros are very friendly:

Calories: 90
Fats: 0g
Carbs: <1g
Protein: 20g

Unique Flavors

The most unique attribute of Dymatize ISO100 Clear are the three flavors that the brand launched with. They are not your typical vanilla, chocolate and peanut butter that we always see. They are fruity, which makes you raise your eyebrows and wonder what in the world these things are going to taste like. Don’t worry, we got that covered for you.

The three flavors we were able to try were Cherry Watermelon, Pineapple Orange and Mango. Here’s our breakdown of each flavor (view video above for the first-time taste test):

Mango
(7.7/10)

Mango is one of our favorite flavors in performance based sports nutrition supplements. It tends to be really refreshing. The Dymatize ISO100 Clear Mango does taste like mango, with a slight after taste. Since it is “milk” base there is a slight “off” taste to the mango (as in it doesn’t taste like a typical mango juice) but you still get mango flavor. We did want to like this one the best, but it actually was our least favorite of the three. Keep in mind, taste is subjective.

Cherry Watermelon
(8.3/10)

Cherry Watermelon won our pleasantly surprised award. It was very good. There was more of a cherry taste than the watermelon, but it was refreshing. Unlike with mango, we did not get that “aftertaste.” Now, keep in mind that the aftertaste could come from the stevia. You do get strong hints of cherry and slight hints of watermelon. This was one flavor that is uniquely differentiated from anything we’ve ever had in the protein game.

Pineapple Orange
(8.6/10)

WINNER WINNER! We mentioned we typically like mango flavors, well that’s because it has a Caribbean type feel. Pineapple Orange does too. This was very good. There was no aftertaste on this that we got with mango. You get a stronger hint of orange than pineapple but the mix is good. It is hard to believe there are no artificial flavors in this.

Overall, all three flavors performed better than we thought they would. To be honest, we thought they weren’t going to be good at all. We were wrong.

Final Takeaway

We’re very impressed with what Dymatize did on the ISO100 Clear powder. Now you do not need to find a cooler with a RTD. You can purchase a tub, get 20-servings at home of 20g high quality protein and enjoy your drink and your gains. The nice thing regarding the powder is that the flavors are unique to the powder; they are not available in the RTDs. We have a feeling this is one of the first new, unique things Dymatize is going to do in protein powder. Being owed by Post Holdings gives the brand access to a wonderful world of authentic cereal flavors, Fruity Pebbles anyone?
