FIt Butters
SteelFit

SteelFit is primarily known for their weight loss supplements and stage-ready approach to sports nutrition. They are a key brand selected by many who are stepping on-stage to look their absolute best.

However, SteelFit has recently began expanding their supplement line as they attempt to become an entirely comprehensive sports nutrition company.

Product Overview

SteelFit brings to us another product that strengthens their health and wellness line. Many people do not get the required vitamins and minerals through their daily diet to support their joints, skin and nail health. It is common to see one of these supplements on the shelf at your local pharmacy, but contains only biotin as the active ingredient.

SteelFit values health and beauty, which is why they offer a product that take a much more comprehensive approach. Yes, we are still getting an efficacious dose of biotin, but we are also getting a plethora of other ingredients that may benefit your skin, hair and nail health.

Ingredients

You won’t see many health and beauty supplements as well formulated as this one. SteelFit includes several clinically dosed ingredients to powerpack their Multi-vitamin and mineral health complex. This product targets the hair, skin and nails to provide a healthy and youthful look. Let’s breakdown this formula and see what we are working with here.

BioCell Collagen® – 1,000mg

SteelFitSteel Beauty® includes this patented complex that targets your joints, skin and connective tissue. This complex is comprised of 3 separate ingredients that all play their own part. This complex has clinical evidence that demonstrates its positive effects on skin health and other aspects of beauty when used daily at 1000mg. However, lets break these ingredients down individually to see what we are working with.

Hydrolyzed Collagen Type II – 600mg

Type II Collagen (CII) is a supplement that, when ingested orally, can reduce inflammation and improve overall joint health. We are getting the hydrolyzed form of CII here with Steel Beauty®, which is the type of collagen with the most benefits to skin health.

One piece of research looked at 2 separate trials using CII and investigated its effect on skin hydration and prevention of skin aging. The trials were both ran for 12 weeks in length, looking at both skin hydration and collagen density via high-resolution ultrasound. It was observed that after 8 weeks, skin hydration had significantly increased. It was also noted that collagen fragmentation had decreased after only 4 weeks of supplementation.

Research indicates that with 600mg of CII supplementation has shown measurable results relating to skin health. We are getting just that here with Steel Beauty®.

Chondroitin Sulfate – 200mg

Chondroitin is a supplement that is frequently used to help improve joint health. You will see this ingredient in almost every joint health formula on the market. It is thought to possibly be effective at reducing joint pain and improving arthritis-related mobility and function.

We in a recent meta-analysis that chondroitin supplementation can provide desirable effects on patients with knee osteoarthritis. The literature analyzed 6 different studies that contained a total of 1,502 participants. Chondroitin supplementation lasted an average length of 3 years. The researchers concluded that with 3 years of continual supplementation, chondroitin was able to provide a small, but statistically significant effect on joint health.

We typically see chondroitin supplementation around the 800mg range in joint health formulas. We are getting 200mg of it here in this BioCell Collagen® matrix.

Hyaluronic Acid – 100mg

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a sugar that is found throughout our skin and joints. The primary function is to hold water to increase hydration and also to improve lubrication in the joints. We have seen some evidence of cartilage and bone growth, while possibly reducing inflammation.

The amount of HA in your skin decreases as you get older, which reduces the amount of hydration and elasticity. This is one of the reasons skin begins to wrinkle as it ages. One study from 2017 looked at twenty females ranging between 45-60 years old and the effect oral HA supplementation had on their skin health. It was found that after 40 days of supplementation, the researchers noticed a significant increase in skin elasticity, skin hydration, and a significant decrease in skin roughness and wrinkle depths.

The average HA supplement on the market is between 100-200mg per serving. The few studies regarding oral supplementation of HA range between 60-200mg daily. We get 100mg here in this complex.

Linoleic Acid (Safflower Oil) – 100mg

Here we are getting Linoleic acid in the form of Safflower Oil. This source of linoleic acid is a quality source of omega-6 fatty acid. We see claims that linoleic acid can provide benefits to the skin such as improving elasticity, reducing inflammation and improving skin healing.

Safflower Oil is high in vitamin E content, which makes this ingredient a solid skin antioxidant. Specifically, vitamin E protects against UV radicals that damage skin elasticity. We also see a hydration improvement with the use of safflower oil. Skin moisturization helps minimize the appearance of wrinkles and also combats their formation. Another benefit is the reduction of inflammation of the skin with daily safflower oil supplementation.

Oral supplementation of safflower oil for skin health is a topic that needs further study. Many of the studies revolve around its use as a topical ointment or cream that is applied to the skin. We do not have any sort of clinical dosing guidelines for oral safflower oil supplementation. However, we are getting 100mg here.

Green Tea Extract – 35mg

Green Tea Extract contains catechins and EGCG, which are molecules that have been proven to have a plethora of health benefits. We see these molecules have beneficial impacts on basically every organ system in the body. While all of the organ systems are affected, the potency of the impact on each system varies and more research is still needed in this area.

For the interests of a health beauty product, we look at how catechins and EGCG impact the growth and vitality of our hair, skin and nails. The primary benefit we are getting here is the ability of these molecules to increase blood flow to the hair, skin and nails. By doing this, it provides a steady supply of oxygen and other nutrients.

We see in one study that green tea extract is able to provide an increase in photoprotection while also enhancing blood flow to the skin. This trial was conducted over a period of 12 weeks, where the extract was able to achieve peak blood flow levels at around 30 minutes post consumption. This study also noted that the extract was successful at protecting the skin from harmful UV radiation.

Many of these health benefits mentioned are proven to be successful in human trials at particularly high dosages. It is recommended that green tea extract is used as high as 400-500mg for maximum benefits. We are getting only 35mg here.

Juvecol® (Proteoglycan) – 25mg

Proteoglycans are found throughout the body in connective tissue such as bone, cartilage and skin. The chemical structure of proteoglycans is essentially a core protein that is covalently bonded with one (or more) glycosaminoglycan side chains. We are getting a patented form of proteoglycan here with Juvecol®, which is extracted from the nasal cartilage of salmon. Proteoglycans are considered a safe form of supplementation that can provide benefits to your joint and skin health.

Many studies have been conducted on proteoglycans impact on our joint health. We see one study from 2014 that demonstrates proteoglycans ability to reduce the local production of inflammatory cytokines, which decreases overall inflammation in the joints. One of the most interesting benefits we see from proteoglycan supplementation is found in a study conducted in 2017 on a group of individuals with knee joint discomfort (but did not have clinically diagnosed osteoarthritis). These researchers found that with just 10mg of oral supplementation daily, proteoglycan is able to significantly improve cartilage metabolism. An increase in collagen type 2 synthesis and a decrease in collagen type 2 degradation was observed without causing any adverse side effects in the participants.

It is also well represented throughout literature that proteoglycans provide benefits to skin health and possibly even showing anti-aging properties. We see that proteoglycan contributes to maintaining skin homeostasis by enhancing various growth factors found within the skin cell. As you grow older, your skin loses the elastic properties that are responsible for the young, healthy look. Supplementing with proteoglycans has been shown to give a smoother, younger look to the dermis layer of the skin when examined closely. It is important to keep the skin hydrated and also to maintain its elastic nature to prevent wrinkles as you grow older.

We have seen evidence that supports proteoglycan supplementation when used at dosages as low as 10mg. SteelFit is giving us 25mg here of a patented version of proteoglycan. This is a solid dose that should provide some benefit to your joint and skin health.

Resveratrol – 10mg

Resveratrol is a polyphenol compound that is derived from plants. It is commonly found in several food sources including red wine, berries and peanuts. This compound acts as an anti-oxidant and although it is found in several sources of food, much of the research surrounding resveratrol uses high-concentrations through supplements and are not found naturally.

Studies have shown that resveratrol has potentially a stronger anti-oxidant effect than many believe. We have seen resveratrol exhibit strong antitumor activity, while also demonstrating the ability to inhibit all carcinogenic stages. This antioxidant activity will provide desirable effects to skin health. It is known that resveratrol can warrant homeostasis at the cellular level, while also protecting against harmful UV rays, which delays skin-aging effects.

Resveratrol experiences particularly poor absorption and bioavailability once inside the body. Many studies demonstrating these desired effects use dosages as high as 2 grams. We are only getting 10mg of resveratrol here with Steel Beauty®.

Final Takeaway

SteelFit gives us an interesting product here with Steel Beauty®. It is much more than your typical biotin supplement. We do get a strong dose of biotin, but also several other ingredients that work to strengthen and improve the vitality of your skin, hair and nails.

All of the ingredients included have clinical studies to support their use. We are not getting dosages that are in line with literature for every ingredient. However, SteelFit does offer a fully transparent label, so the consumer knows exactly what they are purchasing. The formula as a whole boasts some solid ingredients that will do a great job of supplementing the 5mg dose of biotin.

If you are someone who is interested in a product that will promote and maintain healthy skin, hair, and nails, we strongly encourage you to take a look at Steel Beauty®.
