Citrus Bergamot

Citrus Bergamot is a bitter citrus fruit used for lowering cholesterol levels, and maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

Uses of Citrus Bergamot

Citrus Bergamot is most known for its benefits for cholesterol levels, however it actually has a wide array of potential health benefits. A double-blind, placebo controlled study done on 98 people (all at least 50 years of age), showed that Citrus Bergamot, when taken at 500mg/day, was effective at lowering LDL levels when compared to a placebo. This study also showed some improvements in fasting blood glucose levels, waist circumference, and body weight, however some of the results were not significant.

Another study, also done in a similar fashion (80 people around the age of 55) to the previously mentioned study, showed that supplementation over 6 months with Citrus Bergamot was effective at improving blood lipid levels. This was done with less daily Citrus Bergamot than the previous study.

Interactions with Citrus Bergamot

For the most part, you’ll find Citrus Bergamot as a standalone, however you can find it paired with cardiovascular health supplements, as well as some GDA (glucose disposal agent) supplements.

With cardiovascular health supplements, you’ll find it paired with ingredients such as Fish Oil, Red Yeast Rice, and Grape Seed Extract.

In GDAs, you’ll find Citrus Bergamot paired with ingredients such as Berberine, Alpha-Lipoic Acid, and Gymnema Sylvestre

Side Effects with Citrus Bergamot

Potential side effects with Citrus Bergamot include dizziness, heartburn, and low blood sugar levels. Always talk to your doctor before supplementing with Citrus Bergamot.

Recommended Dose of Citrus Bergamot

According to the study mentioned above, 500mg-1000mg (1 gram) of Citrus Bergamot per day is optimal.
