Uses of Alpha-Lipoic Acid

Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a potent antioxidant that you will find in a variety of supplements. You’ll commonly find it paired with Glucose Disposal Agents, or as a standalone.

ALA has been studied and shown to be potentially effective for increasing insulin sensitivity. This study was done on people with Type 2 Diabetes. Another study showed that ALA may be beneficial for lowering LDL levels when combined with exercise. 

You’ll commonly find ALA in supplement which promote anti-aging, there is little evidence for this, however it has been shown to be beneficial for increasing glutathione (an important antioxidant) levels in the body. Most of the anti-aging claims come from it being a powerful antioxidant.

Interactions with Alpha-Lipoic Acid

You’ll usually find ALA as a standalone, however you’ll commonly find it paired with other common ingredients found in GDAs such as Berberine, Cinnamon, and Gynemna Sylvestre. 

Side Effects with Alpha-Lipoic Acid

There are no known side effects of ALA, however it may cause your blood sugar to drop. Always talk to your doctor before taking ALA.

Recommended Dose of Alpha-Lipoic Acid

A typical dose of ALA will be 300mg-600mg. It can be taken with or without food
