Axe & Sledge is a fast growing brand that has been killing it in the sports nutrition space. Their products are already quite popular, however they are here to remind all of you that you are human. As much as Seth Feroce likes to push the limits with his training, he is smart enough to know that your health matters as well, especially as you get older.
Today, we are going to be taking a look at Liver+, a liver support supplement from Axe & Sledge. There are 5 ingredients in this profile, so let’s take a look at it and see how it may fit in your daily regimen.
Axe & Sledge Liver+ Supplement Facts
Milk Thistle – 1g
Another common ingredient found in liver products, Milk Thistle is usually one of the first ingredients that comes to mind when people think about liver health. While not as well-researched as NAC or TUDCA, there are certainly some benefits for liver health.
Milk Thistle contains Silymarin, which is what we want out of Milk Thistle. It has been shown to have hepatoprotective properties. It does this by helping in Glutathione production. Milk Thistle has also been shown to increase the lifespan of people suffering from Cirrhosis.
At 1g of Milk Thistle, 80% of which is Silymarin, you are getting a solid dose in Axe & Sledge Liver+.
N-Acetyl L-Cysteine – 1g
NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) is already one of the most popular ingredients for liver health. It is a precursor to Glutathione, and is a powerful antioxidant with a wealth of research supporting it. It is actually used to treat acetaminophen overdoses! If you don’t know, acetaminophen is an OTC pain reliever, which can be hepatotoxic at higher doses.
With the research behind NAC, it’s no wonder why bodybuilders taking oral steroids (which are also hepatotoxic) often supplement with NAC. Not only is it good for your liver, it has actually been shown to be beneficial for acne. According to a study, 1.2 grams of NAC per day was shown to reduce acne regions after 8 weeks.
At 1g per serving, this is dosed well. It should be noted that NAC has poor bioavailability, which is why it’s nice to see the inclusion of AstraGin® in here.
TUDCA – 250mg
Next up, we have TUDCA, which is actually our favorite liver health ingredient. We call is TUDCA, as it is easier to pronounce than Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid. TUDCA is a water soluble bile acid.
According to a study, TUDCA was compared to UDCA (TUDCA without the Taurine) in patients with Biliary Cirrhosis. Both were shown to be beneficial for improving liver enzymes. Another study compared doses of 500mg to 1000mg and 1500mg of TUDCA. All 3 doses were shown to be effective for improving liver enzymes, however the two higher doses showed benefits for improving cholesterol levels as well.
TUDCA has been shown to be effective at doses as low as 10mg-13mg for improving liver enzymes and restoration. You get 250mg of TUDCA in Liver+. .
Picorhiza kurroa Root Extract – 250mg
Picorhiza root extract (also known as Kutki) comes of Ayurvedic medicine, and has been growing in popularity for its potential liver health benefits. It contains antioxidants that may aid with liver health. The active components of Picorhiza are Picroside and Kutkoside.
According to animal studies, Kutki may have some hepatoprotective properties, especially against the damage of alcohol. It may also be protective against other common hepatotoxic ingredients such as Acetaminophen. There is at least one human study on this as well, and it is one of the more underrated ingredients on the market.
Liver+ provides 250mg at a 5% standardization, which is a solid dose.
AstraGin® – 50mg
AstraGin® is an ingredient that aids with absorption. It helps with bioavailibilty by increasing the expression of transporter proteins. At 50mg, it is dosed correctly in Liver+.

Final Takeaway
This is a great move by Axe & Sledge, and we like the move. Sometimes we get so obsessed with pre-workouts and protein powders that we forget about what really matters... our health.
Axe & Sledge could have sold some sort of underdosed garbage, however they went above and beyond and made a well-dosed formula with solid ingredients. This offers more than just liver health benefits, and the ingredients have a wide variety of benefits, and we suggest grabbing this next time you're supplement shopping over your 15th pre-workout.
