Basic Supplements states that "The confusing world of supplements and sports nutrition can often be overwhelming, full of filler, unnecessary complexities and empty promises. It is time to get back to the Basics". Recently announcing their Whey Isolate line, Basic Supps has released their Whey Protein Blend product line with four new flavors. Chocolate, Vanilla, Blue Marshmallow and Boston Cream Donut flavors.
Initially releasing in 2lb and 5lb tubs, at an MSRP price point of $39.99 for the 28 serving two pound tub, and $79.99 for the 71 serving size of the five pounder it is very comparable to almost any other brand out there. While there will be more options releasing very soon, these four will definitely be on the initial launch.
Not all brands need to be for that hardcore, 24/7, all in or all out type of athlete. Basic Supplements wants to bring affordable quality protein to the average person and their ingredient panel on the Supplements Facts Page shows just that.
Basic Supplements Whey Protein Blend Supplements Facts Page
Basic Supps Whey Protein Blend is a combination of Whey Concentrate, Whey Isolate and Whey Protein Hydrolysate.
As stated above, with the launch we have a two pound tub option and we also get a five pound tub option. For the purposes here, we will be using the SFP from the five pound option.
As you can see on the right, with every 33.5g serving size(average size here) we get 4g carbs, 25g protein and 1.5g of fat. At a total of 130cal per serving we are still right on par with the average size and caloric range of most proteins.
While we don’t generally need to breakdown protein labels, we should identify the difference here between Whey Concentrate and Whey Isolate.
Whey Concentrate Typically contains 70-80% protein by weight and contains more lactose and fat compared to isolate. Usually Whey Concentrate has a creamier texture and richer flavor due to the higher fat content and retains more beneficial nutrients, like immunoglobulins and lactoferrin.
Whey Isolate generally contains 90% or more protein by weight(10-20% more compared to concentrate), but also is much lower in lactose and fat, making it easier to digest for those with lactose intolerance. While often lighter in flavor and texture, this is because Isolate proteins undergo more processing to remove fat and lactose.
Whey Protein Hydrolysate is a form of whey protein that has been pre-digested through hydrolysis, which breaks down the protein chains into smaller peptides. This process makes it easier for the body to absorb, leading to quicker digestion and absorption compared to other forms of whey protein, like concentrate or isolate.
We fully expect there to be loads more flavors coming in the future and may even see some sooner than later. But for now the current initial options have a little something for everyone no matter what your taste buds crave.
Sometimes back to the Basics is just what’s needed.
Final Takeaway on Basic Supplements Whey Protein Blend
