Donuts make people smile. Why? Because they are donuts. Donuts have become one of the most popular dessert dishes in the world. They are no longer just consumed around breakfast time, but are eaten in large gatherings at food festivals and served at weddings as the main dessert. Donuts are cool.
What's not-so-cool about donuts is the fact that many of them are fried in oil. This makes them high in fat, and not friendly to most of your diets. Then all of a sudden a healthy version of the donut comes around...you get all excited only to be let down by the awfulness that was. The "healthy" donut either tastes like dirt or is too dry. Why can't we just have our donuts and eat them too?!
Well, now you can! Introducing our protein packed Chocolate Fudge Protein Donuts featuring a Grenade Carb Killa White Cookie Crunch Protein Spread that is not only good for you but fricken delicious! We couldn't believe that what we were eating was a healthy version of an actual donut. It tasted like a sweet treat that should have been filled with at least 25g of fat.
The base of these donuts are made from Coconut Flour. Coconut Flour is low in carbs, already making this out to be a great healthy base. We use a sugar alternative that is 0 calories, which adds to the overall healthiness of the donut, but also maintains the integrity of sweetness. Of course, they cannot be protein donuts without a Fitness Informant Approved Protein! We used a chocolate whey protein to make these taste amazing.
We mentioned before that many of the healthy donuts end up being dry. We used unsweetened applesauce and coconut milk to avoid that disaster. These are moist from the moment you get done baking to many days after.
What makes a donut a donut? It's the glaze! A lot of the "unhealthiness" of a "healthy" donut comes in the glaze. Many like to use a coconut oil base or actual frosting. We elected to use a high carb protein spread from Grenade called Carb Killa White Chocolate Cookie Crunch Protein Spread. Not only does this spread work great on the donuts, it tastes out-of-this-world amazing.
We had a little fun to top it off. We crushed up some real Oreos and placed the crumbs on top of the glaze. We also added some melted dark chocolate to add to the richness of the donuts.
These are some of the best donuts we've ever personally tried. We are not saying that because we made them...we fully expected them to taste like a "healthy" donut. However, they taste like a donut should taste. AMAZING!
