Tribulus Terrestris

Tribulus is an herb that is commonly promoted as a testosterone booster. It is commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine for libido purposes.

Uses of Tribulus Terrestris

Tribulus Terrestris is a plant which has been one of the most popular supplements for quite some time.

To start this off, there is very little evidence that Tribulus actually increases testosterone. One study showed that there was no increase in testosterone levels after 4 weeks of use. This was done on healthy males aged 20-36. Another study, done on athletes (rugby players) ages 18-29, showed no benefit from Tribulus supplementation when compared to the control group. There are more studies saying the same thing.

There may some benefit to supplementing with Tribulus however, as there is a study showing that it has the potential to decrease blood pressure. With that said, since there is little evidence of this, more studies need to be conducted before we suggest supplementing with Tribulus for this reason. Also, there are plenty of other supplements out there that have more evidence of their efficacy for lowering blood pressure.

Tribulus may not boost testosterone, however there seems to be a benefit for libido. Not just in men, according to a study, Tribulus may be beneficial for women looking to increase libido, however more research needs to be done on this. As for men, there is some research showing that Tribulus may be effective at improving sexual function in men suffering from erectile dysfunction.

Interactions with Tribulus Terrestris

You’ll mostly find Tribulus as a standalone, however it is also commonly found in testosterone boosting supplements. You’ll usually see it paired with ingredients such as D-Aspartic Acid, Fenugreek, and Ashwagandha.

Side Effects with Tribulus Terrestris

While Tribulus is considered safe, it may cause upset stomach and acid reflux. Always talk to your doctor before supplementing with Tribulus.
