Core Nutritionals has decided to join the club with the release of a simpler, more cost effective 30-serving pre-workout supplement in Core PRE Essential Pre-Workout. Simple doesn't mean bad or ineffective, it means that Core Nutritionals focused on key ingredients designed to improve blood flow, performance and output.
Core Nutritionals Essentials Pre-Workout will be available in five flavors including their collaboration with Fun Sweets. The flavors are Fun Sweets Orange Cream, Fun Sweets Cherry, Fun Sweets Blue Raspberry, Lemon Lime and Fruit Punch.
Core Nutritionals Essentials Pre-Workout
Core Nutritionals has formulated a lot of pre-workout supplements. You might recall the Doug Miller special which was a fully loaded, over-the-top pre-workout that had a price tag to reflect the formula. Core Nutritionals Essentials Pre-Workout is the opposite of that in a sense that it is simplified, but that doesn’t mean ineffective.
Citrulline – 6g
Citrulline, a common blood flow agent used in pre-workout powders, is dosed at 6g. This is the standard dosage of Citrulline most companies go with now based on studies.
Citrulline is the precursor to Arginine. The body converts Citrulline into Arginine and improves the flow of blood into the muscles. This helps with the pump but also aids in recovery bringing essential nutrients to the muscles to aid in repair.
Citrulline also aids in cardiovascular health. Then more blood flow the better your cardiovascular health can be. We like to see 3-5g of Citrulline, minimum, used in a pre-workout.
Beta-Alanine – 3.2g
Beta-Alanine is the ingredient that causes paraesthesia or the inchy/tingling of the skin. Beta-Alanine’s benefits does not come in the form of feel, but in helping with muscular endurance. Beta-Alanine has been shown to buffer lactic acid which can aid in longer workout sessions before failure and reducing delayed onset muscle soreness.
We expect to see 3.2g of Beta-Alanine per serving.
Betaine Anhydrous – 2.5g
Betaine Anhydrous has many benefits but most directed towards performance output. Supplementing with 2.5g Betaine Anhydrous has been shown to improve strength and power output. It can also aid in muscle recovery and repair.
N-Acetyl L-Carnitine HCl – 1g
ALCAR aka Acetyl L-Carnitine is a higher quality Carnitine that can improve energy levels, cognition and may aid in fat loss. Carnitine transports fatty acids to be burned off as a fueld source. This aids in an increase in perceived energy as well as a potential to help with fat loss. Carnitine for fat loss is generally dosed at 3g per serving. For an improvement in energy levels we like to see a minimum of 1-1.5g of ALCAR per serving.
Alpha-GPC – 300mg
Alpha-GPC is a choline molecule that has a positive impact on cognition. Alpha-GPC can actually cross the blood-brain barrier which then can improve focus, clarity, and memory. The 300mg of Alpha-GPC is the standard dosage. The 300mg Alpha-GPC is the molecular weight so it will yield 150mg active Alpha-GPC. This, combined with caffeine, helps improve cognition.
Caffeine Anhydrous – 200mg
Contrary to popular belief, Caffeine does not give you energy. Caffeine aids in reducing the perception of fatigue thus making you feel like you have more energy. The 200mg dosage of Caffeine Anhydrous is a dose that resonates with so many more consumers than 300mg+ of caffeine. It is a sufficient dosage (three cups of coffee) that 90% of the population will feel via the CNS (central nervous system) and aid in improving performance.
Caffeine Anhydrous is the fast acting caffeine that will start to work 10-15 minutes after consumption.
AstraGin – 50mg
To ensure you are getting the most out of the active ingredients in this pre-workout, Core Nutritionals added 50mg of AstraGin from Nuliv to help absorption.
Electrolytes – 200mg
Albeit not part of the actives, Core Nutritionals Essential Pre-Workout contains 200mg of electrolytes in Potassium (100mg), Sodium (50mg) and Magnesium (50mg) to aid in proper muscle contraction and hydration during your workout.

Final Takeaway on Core Nutritionals Essential Pre-Workout
With uncertainty in the financial world, a brand launching a new daily driver pre-workout with the "essential" ingredients at an affordable price point is smart. Not everyone wants or needs a $60 pre-workout. In fact, no one needs a pre-workout at all. Having a 30-serving option with good flavors at a sub-$40 price point is just smart business.
