Out of all the aspects to pre-workouts that we look out for here on FI, focus is one of the most important. While many of them will have Caffeine in them, which does help with focus, there are ways to make your pre-workout even better. Not only can better mind-muscle connection mame your reps and sets better, it can also keep you focused on what is most important in the gym. Some people tend to let their mind wander as they workout, or constantly check their phone as well. This isn’t beneficial to your overall growth in the gym, so it makes sense to do what you can to keep your attention to your workout.

In this list, we look at some of the best pre-workout supplements for focus on the market that we have tested and reviewed here on FI. To set the standard, these are not simple Nootropic products, these are pre-workout supplements that aid in all aspects, energy, focus, and pump.

#1 Infinis Ultra Pre-Workout

  • Rating: 9.4 out of 10
  • Servings: 40/20 Servings
  • Best For: Top Overall Product

Pros

  • 1.5g Nitrosigine
  • 508mg VasoDriveAP
  • Multiple Choline Sources
  • 8g L-Citrulline
  • 2g L-Tyrosine
  • 100mg CognatiQ

Cons

  • No Nitrates

Infinis Ultra Pre-Workout is no doubt on this, and can be on many other lists on this guide. Even just looking at the SFP, you see 13 branded ingredients. Now branded ingredients aren’t an end all be all, but it shows that the brand cares about quality and sourcing of their products. Now let’s get to the highlights.

Of course you get the 3 horsemen of performance in pre-workouts with Citrulline, Beta-Alanine, and Betaine all at great doses. You then get Tyrosine at a solid 2g to help with focus and dopamine production. Taurine also makes an appearance at 2g to help with blood flow and hydration. Another performance ingredient Infinis Pre is PeakATP at 450mg.

Instead of going over the profile in order, we will go by the function of each from here on out. To aid with the Citrulline, you get 1.5g of Nitrosigine, 508mg of VasoDrive-AP, CitraPeak at 200mg, and S7 at 100mg. These are all popular ingredients and this combo is great for helping with pumps. Honestly you could take 1 or 2 ingredients out and you’d still notice some great effects.

As for focus/nootropic ingredients besides Tyrosine, you get 600mg of Alpha GPC, 250mg of Cognizin, 100mg of Theanine, 100mg of CognatiQ, and 10mg of Huperzia Serrata (source of Huperzine). Some may be put off by the Theanine due to it lessening the effectiveness of Caffeine, however many love the combo.

Speaking about Caffeine and other energy sources, you get 220mg of Caffeine Anhydrous, which isn’t that much actually. Well you also get some Bitter Orange Extract (as Advantra Z) at 200mg. Another energy source is Theobromine, which also comes in at 200mg. You also get some Liposomal Caffeine at 80mg, as well as 70mg of Infinergy, which is a long lasting source of Caffeine. So You’re getting over 300mg of Caffeine in here from several sources.

Lastly you get 50mg of AstraGin, which may help with absorption.

The profile is absolutely stacked and is certainly one of the more impressive pre-workout launches in recent memory.

Honestly this is more stacked than it really needs to be, which isn’t a bad thing really. It truly does cater to the supplement nerds out there, and it gets great feedback from many… including us. Well worth trying out!

    #2 ZimFit GET PMPD

    zimfit get pmpd
    • Rating: 8.8 out of 10
    • Servings: 20
    • Best For: Low-Stim

Use coupon code INFORMANT to save 15%

    Pros

    • 7g Citrulline
    • 50mg elevATP
    • 85mg Caffeine Anhydrous
    • Transparent Label
    • 1.5g Tyrosine
    • 100mg Theanine
    • Great Taste

    Cons

    • Not Widely Available
    • Not Many Flavor Options

ZimFit is a relatively new brand that we have covered on Fitness Informant in the past, and we really enjoyed our experience. So much so that it has now made our list here.

Get PMPD is an interesting take on a pre-workout, although it really shouldn’t be. It is quite an impressive formula, and really is the king of “low-stim” pre-workouts. Some consider low-stim pre-workouts to be in the 200mg-250mg range, well Get PMPD shows that you don’t need that much to get a good workout in.

It starts with  7 grams of Citrulline, which helps with pumps. At 7g, it is dosed well. Following this you get 3.2g of Beta-Alanine, which can help with endurance. At 3.2 grams, it is at the clinical dose. The first trademarked ingredient is GlycerPump™. This is Glycerol monostearate, which helps with cellular hydration and volumization, which in turn helps with pumps. You get 3 grams of it in here, which is a decent dose.

Now we come to Betaine Anhydrous, which is popular in pre-workouts because it may help with power output. At 2.5g, it is dosed well. Now we come to our first nootropic ingredient, Tyrosine! Tyrosine is a precursor to dopamine, and can help with focus. At 1.5g, it is dosed quite well. Following this is Taurine, which can help with blood flow and hydration.

Another nootropic ingredient in Get PMPD is Alpha GPC, which is a high quality form of Choline. This converts to acetylcholine in the brain, which is a neurotransmitter. This is then followed by Theanine, which is an anxiolytic. This can help calm you down, and may even increase focus. At 100mg, it’s actually higher than the Caffeine content here, which isn’t common to see. You may or may not like this…. speaking of Caffeine…

Now we come to Caffeine, which is why this is one of our favorite low-stim products. You get 85mg of Caffeine, which is way lower than the average pre-workout. Most pre-workouts tend to have 300mg+, and low-stim these days is 200mg or so. Here, you have 85mg, which is about a small cup of coffee or even less depending on who you ask. This is in our eyes a true “low-stim” pre-workout.

The last two ingredients are AstraGin® and Huperzine A. AstraGin may help with the absorption of certain nutrients, and Huperzine prevents choline from being broken down in the brain.

This is a well-formulated pre-workout that really can be considered a low-stim pre-workout. Seriously, try to find a pre-workout with less than 250mg of Caffeine from a reputable brand these days, it’s actually harder than you think! Well worth having for workouts that are later in the day or if you’re trying to give your body a break from the constant bombardment of Caffeine.

One thing we have to mention, while there are two flavors currently, they are well done. The Cherry Taffy isn’t just a basic Cherry… It literally tastes like Cherry Taffy! Well done ZimFit!

    Who Makes It?

ZimFit is a relatively new brand that made a splash with their low-stim pre-workout GET PMPD, and loyal following. They have a lot of potential, and put a lot of effort into their supplements, not just the formulas, but the flavors as well.

    What's In It?

    One serving contains:

    • 7g Citrulline - helps with pumps, endurance, and performance
    • 3.2g Beta-Alanine - helps with endurance
    • 3g GlycerolPump - helps with cellular hydration and pumps
    • 2.5g Betaine Anhydrous - good for power output
    • 1.5g L-Tyrosine - aids in focus and alertness
    • 1g Taurine - regulates electrolytes which may lead to strength increases
    • 200mg Alpha-GPC – nootropic that improves focus
    • 100mg Theanine - helps with calming
    • 85mg Caffeine Anhydrous - helps with energy
    • 50mg AstraGin - helps with absorption
    • 150mg elevATP® - helps with ATP production
    • 300mcg Huperzine A (1%) - May help with focus
    ZIMFIT USA GET PMPD SFP

    Bottom Line:

ZimFit is a fun smaller brand, and GetPMPD is refreshing to have on here. Taste is great, formula delivers with pumps and focus, and also has a very low amount of Caffeine. Showing you don't need a massive amount of stims to get a solid workout in. You get just enough energy to get to the gym, your job will be the GetPMPD.

    #3 Hosstile Supps Hosstility Amped

    • Rating: 9.2 out of 10
    • Servings: 20
    • Best For: Energy

Use coupon code INFORMANT to save 15%

    Pros

    • 450mg Caffeine
    • 2g Tyrosine
    • Taste
    • 150mg Theanine
    • AstraGin and BioPerine for Absorption
    • 10mg Huperzine A

    Cons

    • Some may not like the Theanine

Hosstile Supps Hosstility Amped is Hosstile Supps' high-stim pre-workout. It's not enough to have just one pre-workout these days if you're a brand. You need multiple pre-workouts with different formulas for various people. Some want the high-stim, some want the non-stim, some want something in-between. Obviously this one makes this list due to it being a a high-stim loaded formula.

The profile is broken down into 4 different blends. The first is the Pump+Performance blend that contains your typical ingredients such as Citrulline, Beta-Alanine, and Betaine Anhydrous all at solid doses. You also have the Extreme Focus Matrix , which contains Tyrosine at 2g, which is great for dopamine production, as well as 250mg of Cognizin, a high quality form of Choline. Another interesting addition is the Uridine Monophosphate, which helps with Choline production.

Now of course we have to talk about the Extreme Energy+Anti-Crash Matrix, which provides you with everyone's favorite ingredients for energy... Caffeine. You get two forms of it in here. One being straight Caffeine Anhydrous at 350mg. You also get Infinergy, and extended release Caffeine at 136mg. This gives you an extra 100mg of Caffeine that doesn't hit you all at once. SO a total of 450mg of Caffeine! To help stave off a crash, you get 100mg of Theanine, which some like and some don't. It may help prevent jitters you may experience from the 2mg of Alpha Yohimbine! This is quite a strong blend, which is why it's on this list.

Finally you get the Absorption Matrix, which is a blend of AstraGin and BioPerine. These have been added to help with the absorption of the ingredients in here.

    Who Makes It?

Hosstile Supps is a brand we are happy to see back on our ranking guides. Before the pandemic, Hosstile was making some noise with their formulas. As many brands during the pandemic, they got a little quiet as the world was a bit different. Now they are officially back! Not only with Fouad, but with some really popular influencers. We expect to see them makes waves in the industry in the coming years!

    What's In It?

    One serving contains:

    • 6g Citrulline –  helps move blood into the muscles,
    • 3.2g Beta-Alanine – buffers lactic acid which may aid in endurance
    • 2.5g Betaine Anhydrous – helps with power output
    • 2g Taurine - aids with Hydration and bloodflow
    • 789mg Pink Himalayan Sea Salt - Source of trace minerals and helps with hydration
    • 2g Tyrosine - helps with focus under stressful situations
    • 300mg Uridine Monophosphate - helps with choline production
    • 250mg Coleus Forskolii - increases cAMP
    • 10mg Huperzia Serrata - prevents acetylcholine from being broken down in the brain
    • 350mg Caffeine Anhydrous - provides energy
    • 200mg Theobromine - similar to caffeine, can increase body temperature

    • 150mg L-Theanine - promotes calmness and is used to combat the side effects of stimulants
    • 1.5mg Rauwolfia helps with energy and fat loss
    • 50mg AstraGin® - may help with absorption
    • 10mg BioPerine® - may help with absorption

    Bottom Line:

Hosstility Amped is powerful pre-workout from a great brand. The taste is solid, the energy is great, and it hits in every department you want. Pumps, Focus, Performance.... this is not just a stim-bomb. Well worth picking up as a high-stim option on days where you really want to walk around feeling like you're walking on water.

    #4 Ryse Loaded Pre

    • Rating: 8.4 out of 10
    • Servings: 30 servings
    • Best For: Value

Use coupon code INFORMANT to save 15%

    Pros

    • 4.5g L-Citrulline
    • 3.5g Beta-Alanine
    • Transparent Formula
    • 390mg Combined Caffeine
    • 250mg Citicholine
    • 50mg Theanine

    Cons

    • Some Versions Have Different Ingredients

Ryse Loaded Pre is one of the most popular pre-workouts on the market, and there are plenty of reasons why. Not only does it have several great flavor collabs as well as a solid profile… it also comes at a very fair pricepoint.

Ryse Loaded Pre makes for an easy choice for many gym-goers, as it is simply inviting. Not some overloaded profile with every ingredient under the sun. You get a formula that hits with pumps, endurance, energy, and focus.

The profile starts off with 4.5g of Citrulline, which helps with pumps and performance. 4.5g is a solid dose and while not the most by today's standards, still more than enough to give you a noticeable pump. Following this you get 3.5g of Beta-Alanine. This ingredient helps with endurance and at 3.5 is dosed well.

Now we come to everyone’s favorite ingredient, Caffeine. Caffeine needs no introduction, but for those who are living under a rock on Venus, Caffeine helps with energy. You get 300mg of Caffeine Anhydrous. You also get zumXR, which is a delayed release Caffeine. This helps with longer lasting energy and may help prevent a crash. This adds an extra 90mg of Caffeine, getting this close to a stim bomb. Also thought we would note, you get 100mg of Theobromine, which is a metabolite of Caffeine and may also help with energy.

Finally we have Citicholine and Theanine. Citicholine (as Cognizin) is a high-quality form of Choline. This converts to Acetylcholine in the brain, which is a neurotransmitter. This helps with focus and alertness, and at 250mg is a good dose. Theanine is in here to help combat the potential side effects of Caffeine. You get 50mg, which is nice because some brands seme to add too much.

Now the profile is nothing we haven’t seen before and it is quite simple. This is fine, however it makes this list due to the fair price. You get 30 servings in a tub for under $40. So not only is it budget friendly, you have plenty of flavor options! Kool-Aid, Sour Punch Sour Apple and Blue Raspberry, Bazooka Classic Grape, Ring Pop, and even Countrytime Lemonade (this one has added CitraPeak to aid with pumps)! This is the type of pre-workout to grab several tubs of as they all taste great and won’t hurt your wallet.

    Who Makes It?

RYSE Supplements is a booming brand due to their soft approach to bodybuilding building loyalty through culture. RYSE Supplements also does a great job of formulating products including pre-workouts, proteins and other products like pump formulas. RYSE Supplements also launched RYSE Fuel, the brand's energy drink which is getting the brand into more households.

    What's In It?

    One serving contains:

    • 4.5g L-Citrulline – improves blood flow for pumps
    • 3.5g Beta-Alanine - improve muscular endurance
    • 300mg Caffeine Anhydrous - good for energy
    • 250mg Citicholine (Cognizin) - High quality source of Choline that helps with focus
    • 120mg zumXR - Delayed release Caffeine that can help with longer lasting energy
    • 100mg Theobromine - similar to caffeine, can aid in energy production, may smooth blood vessels for more blood flow
    • 50mg L-Theanine - reduces stress and anxiety

    Bottom Line:

Ryse Loaded Pre is a solid option for a pre-workout if you are on a budget. You get 30 servings, all for under $1.30. The flavors are awesome, and the added availability of Loaded Pre is nice too. The amount of Caffeine is quite high which may be a turn off for some, but for the seasoned stim veteran it should be business as usual. Great choice for those trying to save yet still get an effective pre-workout.

    Cons

    • Taste

Hooligan Bare Knuckle is a top tier pre-workout from Apollon Nutrition, and some how Apollon is one of the few brands to be able to make a stim-free pre-workout seem hardcore.

The profile starts off with 8 grams of Citrulline, which is a powerful dose. This is then following by a 2.5g dosage of Betaine Anhydrous, which can help with power output. To add to pumps and performance, you get 600mg of Vaso6, and 1.5g of Agmatine Sulfate.

Now since this is a ranking guide for focus, we have to get the nootropic ingredients out of the way. The most popular focus ingredients in here are all at great dosages. You get 2 grams of Tyrosine, 600mg of Alpha GPC, and 1g of Lion's Mane Extract. These are all popular and proven ingredients that are surely going to help with focus.

To add to the fun, you get 250mg of Pink Himalayan Salt and 50mg of AstraGin. Pink Salt can help with hydration and muscle contractions, while AstraGin may help with absorption. Overall, this is a powerful stim-free pre-workout that really impresses, and that's why it is on this list.

Apollon Nutrition is a hardcore supplement line that isn't afraid to go places other brands haven't. Not only are they hardcore, they know how to make great products and care about providing clinical doses of ingredients. • 600mg Alpha GPC - Source of Choline that helps with focus and has a high bioavailability
    • 250mg Pink Himalayan Sea Salt - Source of trace minerals and helps with hydration
    • 50mg AstraGin® - Helps with absorption

    Bottom Line:

Apollon is taking over our ranking guides! Hooligan Bare Knuckle is a powerful stim-free pre-workout that you could easily add a Caffeine pill to and still have one of the most impressive pre-workouts on the market. You'll get powerful pumps, great focus, and increased performance with Bare Knuckle, which is why it is on this list.

When Should I Use A Pre-Workout Supplement for Focus

So many people focus on the hard-hitting, energy component of the pre-workout supplement. That is important, yes. We cover that here at FI. One of the most important parts of any workout is the focus. The focus is so much more than just feeling like you took Adderall. Focus can lead to gains.

Focus helps you with making sure your reps and sets count. If you simply load up on stimulants and have a "REPS FOR JESUS" workout, you may feel great, but are you actually just moving the weight and neglecting getting the most out of each rep?

The next time you're looking for a pre-workout powder, remember the importance of focus. If you don't buy one of our top rated pre-workout supplements for focus, then understand what the focus ingredients and look for those the next time you go shopping.

Remember, focus can really help you stay focused on your workout, as well as help you maintain mind-muscle connection. These top 5 rated pre-workout supplements for focus can really help you get the most out of your workouts.

What To Look For In A Focus First Pre-Workout

Being a pre-workout supplement it should also provide other aspects other than just focus. We love to see hefty dosages of Choline, but it is still very important to get ingredients that contribute to energy, pumps, strength, power, and endurance.

For the specific focus aspect of the pre-workout, we want to look for ingredients that will improve mental clarity through various methods. This can occur by increasing acetylcholine in the brain, or increasing dopamine in the brain by using exogenous ingredients like Alpha GPC to increase Acetylcholine levels, or Tyrosine to increase Dopamine levels. Some of these ingredients include Alpha GPC, Huperzine A, NooLVL, L-Tyrosine, DMAE and more.

Stimulants can also aid in focus. Caffeine may be the most popular focus ingredient on the market. With that said, we will not be including products that contain gray market area stimulants such as DMHA, and there will certainly be no products with DMAA in them on our list.

Many pre-workout supplements today will forgo a focus complex in their formula, and simply rely on Caffeine for this. This is fine if the brand is giving you optimal dosages of other key ingredients. However, we do enjoy when companies make a pre-workout with the focus in mind.

    Our Pre-Workout Supplement Testing Process

We examined five different areas of each pre-workout supplement when we compiled our rankings:

    1. Ingredients Profile
    2. Effectiveness
    3. Taste
    4. Mixability
    5. Value

    preworkout powder in bottle

    Ingredients Profile

When we review each pump activating supplement on their ingredient profile, we look at the active ingredients being used and their dosages.

Many pre-workout supplements include a variety of beneficial ingredients, but under dose them proving to be non-effective.

    Effectiveness

Effectiveness is an extension of ingredient profile. If the product uses proven ingredients at clinically suggested dosages, the product should be effective.

Everyone is different. Everyone takes to different ingredients differently at varying dosages. We have tried and tested each of these products throughout the full duration of their container to ensure these products are effective over their life.

    Taste

We review taste on two different components. First, how close does the muscle pump supplement taste to the actual name printed on the label. For example, does Blue Raz actually taste like blue raspberry. Second, we review it on overall taste (in our opinion) versus others in the same flavor category.

    Mixability

Mixability refers to how well does the product mix in 8-12oz of water. The testing process for a pump activating drink we use here is a generic Blender Bottle with the chrome spiral ball. We use regular tap water with no ice.

    Value

Value is a combination of ingredient profile, effectiveness, taste, mixability and cost. We do not just look at the price tag like a lot of others do. If a product is priced at a premium, we inform you if it is worth the premium price or not based on all the categories. We look at the overall picture of the  pre-workout supplement, and how it compares to other pre-workout supplements on the market.

Please Note: Many of the “top 10” lists you find online are written by content writers with no in-gym or supplement experience who are paid by the word count to write an article for a website trying to generate money.

These lists are influenced by brands who pay for placement. These lists contain pump activating supplements that are, for the lack of a better word, garbage.

The following products on our best of list were used by the author of this article. He used the pump activating supplements through the duration of a full container. Sample packs were not used in determining the rankings of the best pump producing supplements.

Stop relying on faulty information that is influenced by outside writers and money. This list is the real deal. Here at Fitness Informant, we don’t steer you wrong. Be Informed. Live Fit.
