Agmatine is a naturally formed compound in the body that is a derivative of the Nitric Oxide (NO) producing amino acid Arginine. This ingredient is used as a tool to increase and regulate NO concentration in the blood stream to facilitate a good pump. Agmatine Sulfate is the powder form of Agmatine that is bonded with a sulfate ion for solubility purposes.

Uses of Agmatine Sulfate

Agmatine Sulfate is derived from the amino acid L-Arginine. Arginine directly elevates NO levels in the blood. Agmatine plays an important role in this process because of the effect it has on NO synthase. This is why you will find Agmatine Sulfate used in pre-workout and pump supplements.

Without diving too deep into the science behind NO production, just know that there are 3 types of NO synthase. The first 2, Agmatine suppresses. The 3rd synthase, Agmatine increases. This is how Agmatine plays its key role in the regulation of NO production. If these 3 synthases were remained unregulated, an increase in NO blood concentration could cause potential problems such as inflammation or the damaging of neurons.

Agmatine is of interest to performance athletes because of its ability to increase the 3rd synthase. This synthase is known as your endothelial NO synthase, which is responsible for signaling the vasodilation of the blood vessels.

Vasodilation is exactly what you want as an athlete. This allows for more blood flow, leading to more oxygen and nutrient flow, which ultimately should lead to more growth.

Another positive impact of Agmatine Sulfate may be improved brain function. Agmatine is a neurotransmitter and helps in protecting the brain from the buildup of toxins. This mostly benefits brain function and improve cognition.

Interactions with Agmatine Sulfate

Agmatine works well alongside other pump enhancing ingredients such as Citrulline and Nitrosigine. Both of these ingredients will increase the amount of Arginine and NO in the bloodstream, therefore allowing Agmatine to do its job of regulating NO synthase levels. Other pump ingredients that Agamatine Sulfate interacts well with are Theobromine, Glycerol (GlycerPump/HydroMax) and Nitrates.

Side Effects of Agmatine Sulfate

Agmatine has been shown to have minor side effects in a very small percentage of users. These side effects include nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. These symptoms were found to resolve themselves within several days after discontinuing supplementation of Agmatine.
