Overview of Gaspari Nutrition AminoLast
Gaspari Nutrition is back. What was once one of the largest brands in the space faded a bit, but now that it is back under the control of the original creator Rich Gaspari, we are seeing some cool stuff from the brand.
AminoLast isn't technically new, but it is still good. Using a proven 2:1:1 BCAA ratio at 5g plus added electrolytes and hydration components, AminoLast is more than just an amino product. If you're eating regularly, AminoLast would be a solid choice for both muscle recover and hydration intra-workout.
Why You Should Trust Our Reviews
- EXPERT REVIEW PANEL
Our review panel is made up of individuals with many years of experience in the sports nutrition industry, dating back to the early 2000’s. Their tenure gives them knowledge on brands, supplements, ingredients, dosages and more. - FULL CONTAINER REVIEWS
Unlike the majority of “review” sites on the internet, Fitness Informant reviews every supplement on a full-container basis. What does this mean? It means that a review is not written or recorded until the last serving of that product has been finished. We’ve all had products that were great for the first couple of days, but then lost their effectiveness shortly after. We want to ensure you are getting a full review based on a full product. - INGREDIENT EDUCATION
We breakdown each ingredient in our reviews to educate you on exactly what the ingredients do, and what is the proper dosage of each ingredient to effectively do what they are intended to do. - 100% HONEST – NO B.S. REVIEWS
Our number #1 priority is to inform you proper supplement selection through honest reviews. The majority of “review” sites on the internet will push you to buy a certain product based on the commissions they received. Not us. We want you to purchase the highest quality supplements at the best value. We put your health and wellness first. To achieve your goals we want you to use only the best supplements that you can afford. We do this by being honest.

Testing Results and Ratings
We reviewed Gaspari Nutrition AminoLast on five categories. We first start by looking at its ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the different ingredients used in this amino acid supplement, what their intention is and how effectively dosed are each ingredient.
We then look at effectiveness. An effective amino acid product will use high quality, proven ingredients, at clinically backed dosages. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that amino product will be.
Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Stawberry Kiwi.
Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 12-16 oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.
Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of BCAA/EAA products on the market.
Ingredients Profile
Gaspari Nutrition’s Aminolast starts off with a bit of electrolytes to enhance hydration and help with cramping. We get calcium, magnesium and sodium. The bulk of this profile comes from the “Aminolast Matrix” which contains 6 ingredients. They also have chosen not to use any artificial colors. Let’s good ahead and break it down.
We start off with a 5g of BCAAs at a 2:1:1 ratio. This is one of the most traditional ratios we see, yielding 2500mg Leucine, 1,250mg of Isoleucine and 1,250mg of Valine. We are unsure of the type of BCAAs we are getting here (whether it be fermented, instantized etc.) but the doses are good. Taurine is included at 2,000mg. This is an amino acid that helps improve hydration by regulating electrolytes as well as improving power output. We like seeing doses of at least 1 gram, so we are good here.
Next, we have 2,000mg of Leucine peptides. These peptides are composed of pure L-Leucine. They are found in the form of di and tri peptides, with 2 or 3 amino acids linked together. Leucine is arguably the most important muscle building amino acid. Research has suggested that Leucine should be the priority when it comes to amino acid supplementation in the strength training athlete. It has been shown to trigger muscle protein synthesis which is the key to muscular growth and repair. 2000mg of Leucine peptides is a nice addition to this amino product.
Finally, we have AmmoJECT (L-Ornithine L-Aspartate) dosed at 1000mg. This is a salt that is comprised of two non-essential amino acids. It is primarily responsible for reducing ammonia levels in the body, therefore leading to enhanced recovery. This ingredient is supposed to rid your muscles of waste product following intense exercise. We are getting 1000mg here which is a reasonable dose.
This product contains some pretty good ingredients that can enhance your muscle recovery and reduce levels of fatigue. In order to make this profile stronger we would like to see some of the other EAAs included instead of just BCAAs. All in all, hardly any room to complain here.
Effectiveness
This is one category that is a little bit harder to gauge when using an amino product. Sometimes it is difficult to feel the product working, unlike a pre-workout. There are so many different factors that play into muscle recovery. We advise drinking aminos in the morning if you don’t want to train fasted but don’t want to eat something either. They can also be used in between meals if you go longer periods without a protein source.
We look to get improved muscle recovery and an improved endurance factor when using this product intra workout. We used this product in the few weeks before the Olympia while trying to shed a little bit of body fat. Calories were not high, and we were still training just as hard as usual. We did not feel a lack in muscle recovery, even as the calories began dropping a bit. We typically got some cramping in my lower back/calves, and we feel that the Taurine helped in that respect.
Taste
Strawberry Kiwi:
This flavor was right on the money. It was a very strong strawberry flavor with that kiwi on the tail end. It was not so strong that it ruined the flavor, but definitely strong enough to ward off any chemical taste/aftertaste you could be getting. We enjoyed drinking this flavor during my workouts and we can confidently say that it made getting my fluids in a lot easier.
Mixability
This product mixes about as good as it could get. With BCAAs, we definitely expect some foaming (which you will see in the video). But, there is absolutely no grit that is detectable as you drink. It was a very smooth drinking product; nice work Gaspari Nutrition.
Value
The ideal value for BCAA products such as this one is $1/serving. You can get this from Gaspari’s website for $28 for a 30 serving container. This is a pretty basic formula with a couple of key ingredients such as AmmoJECT, that make this product valuable. This is not a bad price and it beats out many competitors on the market today. AminoLast could definitely be worth the investment if you are in the market for a BCAA product with a solid value.
