Overview of GHOST BCAA V2

GHOST is a brand synonymous with cool. They have cool labels, cool athletes and cool marketing. But they also have cool, effective supplements with mindful formulations that are designed to improve your overall chance at achieving your fitness goals.

GHOST reformulated their OG BCAA product to become BCAA V2. The differences may seem small, but they are huge. BCAA V2 features 7g 2:1:1 fermented BCAA vs the 6g of its predecessor. For only $27.99 you get 30-servings of great tasting, packed 2:1:1 BCAAs that no one can complain about. Overall this is one of the best straight-forward BCAA products on the market today.

Why You Should Trust Our Reviews

  • EXPERT REVIEW PANEL
Our review panel is made up of individuals with many years of experience in the sports nutrition industry, dating back to the early 2000’s. Their tenure gives them knowledge on brands, supplements, ingredients, dosages and more.
  • FULL CONTAINER REVIEWS
Unlike the majority of “review” sites on the internet, Fitness Informant reviews every supplement on a full-container basis. What does this mean? It means that a review is not written or recorded until the last serving of that product has been finished. We’ve all had products that were great for the first couple of days, but then lost their effectiveness shortly after. We want to ensure you are getting a full review based on a full product.
  • INGREDIENT EDUCATION
We breakdown each ingredient in our reviews to educate you on exactly what the ingredients do, and what is the proper dosage of each ingredient to effectively do what they are intended to do.
  • 100% HONEST – NO B.S. REVIEWS
Our number #1 priority is to inform you proper supplement selection through honest reviews. The majority of “review” sites on the internet will push you to buy a certain product based on the commissions they received. Not us. We want you to purchase the highest quality supplements at the best value. We put your health and wellness first. To achieve your goals we want you to use only the best supplements that you can afford. We do this by being honest.

Testing Results and Ratings

We reviewed GHOST BCAA V2 on five categories. We first start by looking at its ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the different ingredients used in the Amino Acid supplement, what their intention is and how effectively dosed are each ingredient.

We then look at effectiveness. An effective Amino Acid product will use high quality, proven ingredients, at clinically backed dosages.  This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that Amino Acid will be.

Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Sour Patch Kids Blue Raspberry, Sour Patch Kids Watermelon, Blueberry Acai, Kiwi Strawberry and Lemon Crush.

Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 6-8oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. We use the Official Shaker Cup of Fitness Informant, the Ice Shaker.

Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of Amino Acid products on the market.

Ingredients Profile

(10.0/10)

GHOST BCAA V2 Label

It’s not often we give a product a 10 for a profile, but when. talking about strictly BCAA products, you won’t find many, if any, better than this. GHOST updated their BCAA formula from 6g 2:1:1 BCAA to 7g 2:1:1 fermented BCAAs. They added in an extra gram of BCAAs without increasing the price on the consumer.

GHOST also uses only fermented BCAAs. Two things need to be known about fermented BCAAs. The first is they are vegan, which means they are derived from plants. While traditional BCAAs are derived from animal by-product like feathers, beaks, etc, you can be assured GHOST BCAAs are not. The second is that vegan fermented BCAAs generally are harder to flavor – but we will get to that later.

The last thing to note about this is the full clinical dosage of AstraGin. AstraGin at 25mg, AstraGin increases the absorption of amino acids. Why is this important? So that what you are drinking is actually going to work for you.

Effectiveness

(10.0/10)

The score for effectiveness is 10 BUT…

What do we mean by “but”? But means you should have had a protein-rich meal within the past couple hours so you have a pool of amino acids in your system. BCAAs work best when you’ve eaten a protein rich meal. If you are fasted then you should consider an EAA (GHOST Amino) product.

The reason this scores so high is at 7g 2:1:1 BCAAs, you are getting a massive dosage of Leucine which is needed to start the key to the engine of muscle repair and building. While most on the market offer a simple 5g BCAA (nothing wrong with that) GHOST doses theirs more without increasing the price on the consumer.

When drank intra or post workout, GHOST BCAA could potentially aid in muscle recoery.

Taste

Sour Patch Kids Blue Raspberry: (8.6/10)
Sour Patch Kids Blue Watermelon: (8.9/10)
Blueberry Acai: (8.8/10)
Kiwi Strawberry: (9.2/10)
Lemon Crush: (9.8/10)

Taste/Flavor was the fun part of this review. GHOST had sent us five flavors (listed above) to try. The only one we did not get to test was Sour Patch Kids Redberry. We will do our best to break them down.

Sour Patch Kids Blue Raspberry: admittedly, we aren’t huge fans of blue raspberry products. With that said, this beats most of the other blue raspberry flavored supplements we’ve had. Yes, it gives you that traditional blue raspberry flavor, but you don’t get the funky aftertaste with it.

Sour Patch Kids Watermelon: much like blue raspberry, we also don’t love watermelon flavored stuff. Again, just like SPK Blue Raspberry, we enjoyed this more than other watermelons on the market. There is just something about that candy-like flavor in a BCAA – the authentic SPK flavor – that sets it apart of others.

Blueberry Acai: we had high hopes for this one as Blueberry Acai GLOW was one of the best flavors from GHOST. This version of Blueberry Acai wasn’t as good as the GLOW version, but it is still good. It is good because it is different. That’s what we really enjoyed about this one.

Kiwi Strawberry: this one made us smile. We were hoping for more kiwi than strawberry because we aren’t big fans of strong strawberry flavored performance powders. GHOST nailed the kiwi flavor. It leads with a lot of kiwi and only a subtle strawberry which was perfect for us.

Lemon Crush: this was the GOAT of flavors in BCAA. Hell, this might be the best GHOST flavor to date. It mixes lemon flavor, almost like lemonade, and orange to give us a lemon/orange juice sherbet type flavor that is amazing.

Overall you won’t be disappointed in any flavor, but Lemon Crush took the cake for us.

Mixability

(8.5/10)

More BCAAs means more BCAAs to mix into water. BCAAs are not soluble in water, so what this really means is you’re going to get more particles floating in the water. If you don’t continue to shake your shaker you may end up with some particles on the edges and at the bottom of the shaker cup. This isn’t a deal breaker, this is the same with all aminos on the market. They just don’t mix in.

We used the Official Shaker Cup of Fitness Informant, The Ice Shaker.

Check out the video above for a full mixability test.
