Overview of Core Nutritionals Core ABC
Core Nutritionals has been a brand that has quietly become one of the best brands in the world. I say quietly because they don’t have huge athletes, use sex to sell or are whoring themselves out on social media (one of the things that really sucks about this industry). They make high quality products without any fancy packaging or naming conventions.
Core ABC is Core Nutritonals intra workout product containing 10g of 2:1:1 BCAA, Glutamine, Beta Alanine and Citrulline Malate. If this isn’t solid already, the exclusive Suppz.com flavor Australian Orange Sherbert is the the best tasting BCAA product I have ever had in my life. Not even joking. For just over $1 a serving, for a lot of aminos and more, Core ABC has moved into my top list for intra workout products!
Testing Results and Ratings
We reviewed Core Nutritionals ABC on five categories. We first start by looking at it’s ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the amount of aminos used, as well as the kind of aminos, the ratio and other ingredients involved in the making of this BCAA powder.
We then look at effectiveness. A high BCAA product will be effective. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.
Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Australian Orange Sherbert.
Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 12oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.
Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of BCAA products on the market; both with and without caffeine.
Let’s put all this EAA vs. BCAA nonsense to the side. There are many articles supporting the 2:1:1 BCAA ratio. There are also other articles supporting the full spectrum EAA. The truth is, they both serve a purpose, and intra workout is a prime time to take BCAAs.
Core ABC using 10g of 2:1:1 BCAAs per serving! This is insane. Their serving size is (2) scoops which is 20g. Half of that is BCAA. Now, these don’t say fermented BCAA, and based on the great taste, I cannot imagine they are. So what does that mean? It means molecular they are the same as fermented BCAAs, it’s just where they are sourced from that are different. I prefer fermented so I know where mine come from, but traditional BCAAs do taste better. You’d typically consume about 15-20g of BCAAs per day, with (2) scoops, you are already getting half that.
You also get 2.5g of L-Glutamine. For the longest time this was thought to have an impact on recovery times, and it may, but is has proven more-so recently to have positive impacts on gut health. There are some studies that indicate Glutamine can enhance your performance as well.
Core tosses in 2.5g of Beta Alanine for a strength and endurance enhancer. The clinical dosage of Beta Alanine is 3.2g, and most of our pre-workouts are going to have this, but I will not say it is unnecessary, it is just going to enhance your workout.
Lastly, you get 2.5g of Citrulline Malate. The clinical dosage of Citrulline Malate is 6-8g. This helps with pump production and ultimately muscle recovery.
Overall, 17.5g of the 20g serving size are “actives,” which is awesome. The fact that this tastes so good without a bunch of other stuff makes it even better. My only recommendation would be fermented BCAAs, but then again, that would impact taste.
As I mentioned earlier, let’s drop this he said/she said bullshit on EAAs vs. BCAAs for now. Core Nutritionals Core ABC was created on the science behind BCAAs effectiveness when combined with L-Glutamine, Beta Alanine and Citrulline Malate. I can vouch that this product helped reduce my muscle soreness by inhibiting lactic acid buildup.
I can say that I rarely suffered from DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) while using this. I would take this product during my workout and sometimes later during the day. In fact, because of the taste, I would drink this throughout the day because it was so good and it hydrated me.
A high dosage of 2:1:1 BCAA, mixed with a good dose of Glutamine, Beta Alanine and Citrulline Malate makes this an effective intra workout product. It would be one that I recommend to anyone.
Australian Orange Sherbert:
If I could give a 10+, I would. This is the best tasting amino product I have ever used. I have had some really good ones before from other companies, but nothing was as refreshing and tasty as Australian Orange Sherbert. Now, taste can be subjective, so if you don’t like orange then you might not like this.
When drinking this it really evoked emotion in me as it brought back childhood memories of eating Flintstone’s Orange Sherbert Pushup Pops. Those were some of my favorite times as a kid, and now as an adult, I can relive them through this wonderfully tasting, Suppz.com exclusive flavor, Australian Orange Sherbert.
A (2) scoop serving was 20g of powder. That can be a lot. I will tell you that I mixed it in a traditional shaker cup and not many issues at all. When mixed in a clear cup, I could see just the tad bit of cloudiness at the bottom, but nothing compared to some other preworkouts or amino products.
I would say that along with taste, mixability is one of the strong suits of this product. You don’t have to mix hard either to get it to fully mix in.
Most people don’t like paying over $50 for anything, let alone supplements and especially BCAAs. However, hear me out, this is 50-servings for $54. This is just a fraction over $1 per serving and each serving contains 10g of 2:1:1 BCAAs, 2.5g L-Glutamine, 2.5g Beta Alanine and 2.5g Citrulline Malate. on top of that, it tastes fricken AMAZING. There are other BCAA products out there that are 30-servings for $40, that can’t touch this in terms of taste, or even profile.
This is one of the best values on the market for a BCAA/intra workout product.
