Overview of ProSupps Hydro BCAA
ProSupps has been around the block. They are the makers of the ever-so-popular Mr. Hyde and Jekyl pre-workouts. They are also the makers of the MyBar and the MyCookie. ProSupps has been around a long time, and thus has the research available to them to produce good products.
from ProSupps is one of those good products. Recent studies indicate that EAAs need to be utilized with BCAA to aid in muscle recovery. That’s exactly what they did with Hydro BCAA. Packed with 7g of 2:1:1 BCAA ratio and 3g of EAAs, Hydro BCAA was designed to speed up protein synthesis and aid in muscle recovery.
Testing Results and Ratings
We reviewed ProSupps Hydro BCAA on five categories. We first start by looking at it’s ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the amount of aminos used, as well as the kind of aminos, the ratio and other ingredients involved in the making of this BCAA powder.
We then look at effectiveness. A high BCAA product will be effective. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.
Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Dragon Fruit.
Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 12oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.
Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of BCAA products on the market; both with and without caffeine. For our amino recommendations list, click here.
Hydro BCAA starts with 7g of 2:1:1 Fermented BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids). This is what we like to see. The 2:1:1 ratio is the scientifically backed ratio to aid in muscle recovery. However, recent studies indicate the BCAAs alone do not increase protein synthesis, EAAs are needed.
Hydro BCAA includes 3g of EAAs (Essential Amino Acids). The inclusion of EAAs with BCAAs (BCAAs are EAAs as well) will help speed up protein synthesis because our bodies cannot produce them. We love the inclusion of EAAs.
Collectively the BCAAs and EAAs make up 10g of the 14.5g serving size. Sucralose is used as a sweetener (as it is with many supplements). Beet Root Powder is used for color, but it does provide the benefit of NO production as well.
Overall, I like the use of not just a 2:1:1 BCAA, but also the use of other EAAs. This is a better formula than a straight 2:1:1 BCAA product.
The 2:1:1 ratio is the best ratio of BCAA to be effective. But BCAA alone is not effective in speeding up protein synthesis without the inclusion of other EAAs. This product contains 3g of EAAs. Studies indicate that protein synthesis is best when BCAAs are mixed with a whey protein (getting the EAAs from the whey).
I can say that I rarely suffered from DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) while using this. I would take this product during my workout and sometimes later during the day.
Overall, based on profile, this product is effective. It does a really nice job of quenching your thirst as well…however you keep wanting more because it tastes so good.
Dragon Fruit is a unique flavor many supplement companies are picking up on. It is very good. The one thing about it that can be a turn-off is that it is kind of sweet. Maybe this was due to the use of sucralose in the product. Overall, it does taste really good, and when it is cold, it really helps quench your thirst.
For a BCAA product, this does have more than most. Think about it, most BCAAs are 5g of a 2:1:1 ratio. We get 7g here plus an additional 3g of EAAs. The serving size is 14.5g. I mixed mine in the largest amount of water possible (24oz). You do find some particles floating in the water, but overall it isn’t bad.
I would recommend watching the video so you can see exactly how this product mixes.
You can get a lot of servings of a 2:1:1 BCAA ratio product (5g per serving) for around $25. This product you get 30-servings for around $30. The big difference here is that you are getting the EAAs that you need intra workout and post workout.
I know many people will still try to go as cheap as possible on aminos, but you get what you pay for. This product using Fermented BCAAs and EAAs, a fantastic value to a great product.
Overall, give this product a shot, you will enjoy it, and the price is worth the science.
