Get To Know Committed USA Asylum Pre-Workout

Committed USA Asylum

Committed USA…does that ring a bell? Yes, no, maybe? Well, that’s about to change. Committed USA currently makes two products: Asylum, a pre-workout; and BCAA Plus, a full-spectrum amino acid product. We’re going to take a look at both products, but this article is going to be dedicated to Asylum, the stim-based pre-workout supplement that provides sustained energy, good focus and increased exercise capacity.

While many companies are hurrying to release the highest stimulant based pre-workout product that they can, Committed USA took a year formulating and testing their pre-workout Asylum to ensure not to overstimulate the user, but provide the optimal workout experience. The label features many stimulants, but at dosages lower than what we typically see, which is not a bad thing.

In a society where we’re currently overstimulated as it is, it is nice to see a pre-workout still use stimulants but at dosages that are optimal for better performance. There is a place for stimulants in this world, but overdoing them can be counter productive to your fitness goals. A pre-workout is much more than caffeine, and Asylum proves that.

Committed USA Asylum Pre-Workout

We want to dive into the supplement facts panel to break down this product and why it is an effective pre-workout.

Asylum LabelL-Citrulline Malate – 6g

Asylum starts with six grams of L-Citrulline Malate. This ingredient is used to produce fuller pumps and enhance performance. It contains Citrulline and Malic Acid. Citrulline is the precursor to Arginine in the body, which will increase nitric oxide. An increase in nitric oxide will lead to more blood flow and ultimately better pumps. Malic acid may improve overall performance. We typically find this at a 2:1 ratio, which would mean two parts Citrulline to one part Malic Acid. A dosage of 6-8g is acceptable on Citrulline Malate.

Beta-Alanine – 3.2g

Beta-Alanine may be the most popular ingredient in a pre-workout. Beta-Alanine’s purpose is to improve exerciser performance through the reduction of muscle fatigue. Beta-Alanine is also an ingredient that should be supplemented with daily to ensure you maintain the saturation point. We like to see this at 3.2-6.4g to achieve the best results for an increase in exercise capacity.

Caffeine Anhydrous – 175mg

We know this is the area where many of you reading this will stop and say to yourself, “that is not nearly enough caffeine!” Well, you’re wrong. It is enough caffeine and the reason why is because Committed USA uses many other stims that work in synergy with caffeine to provide energy. Caffeine Anhydrous is pure caffeine that is fast acting. A dosage of 175mg is equivalent to approximately 2.5 cups of coffee.

L-Norvaline – 150mg

Norvaline has come under fire recently due to ONE study, via in vitro, where it showed that L-Norvaline could impact memory. Until there are further studies and done via oral ingestion, we wouldn’t be worried about it. Norvaline is an Arginase inhibitor. Norvaline allows the body to produce more NO, thus allowing blood flow to keep increasing.

Eria Jarensis Extract – 75mg

One of our favorite cognitive enhancing ingredients in formulas today. Eria Jarensis pairs very well with caffeine to provide a boost in cognitive performance as well as a bump in energy. We see this around 150mg in a lot of pre-workouts, but then again they are not combined with many of the stimulants found in Asylum. Regarding cognation, Eria Jarensis is one of the best ingredients in that field, especially when paired with caffeine.

Eria Jarensis Extract provides a variety of mood boosting and cognitive enhancing effects for the consumer. This is directly caused by its ability to increase noradrenaline and even dopamine concentrations in the body. When these hormones are increased in the body, the user will have a sense of alertness, focus and concentrated attention. When this ingredient is taken in high enough doses, the user will achieve a sense of euphoria that is quite pleasing.

Theobromine – 50mg

Theobromine is an active compound in chocolate, that works synergistically with caffeine to provide an energy boost. Theobromine can also act as a vasodilator, which can aid in increased blood flow. We find this anywhere between 20mg and 100mg.

Higenamine HCl – 25mg

Higenamine HCl is a useful ingredient typically found in pre-workouts and fat burners.  It is seen as being a potential alternative to Ephedrine and Synephrine, meaning it acts as a beta-agonist. Higenamine interacts well with caffeine to stimulant the central nervous system for an increase in energy. We typically see this dosed at 25mg  and 50mg.

Hordenine HCl – 25mg

Much like Higenamine, Hordenine is used for its fat burning properties, which, as a direct result, increases energy. Hordenine is used with Higenamine in a lot of pre-workouts. Similarlily to Higenamine, we typically find this dosed between 25mg and 50mg.

Isopropylnorsynephrine (Synephrine) – 25mg

Isopropylnorsynephrine (a form of Synephrine) is from Bitter Orange. It is primarily used for fat loss and energy production in pre-workouts. It may increase fat oxidation which can lead to fat loss and an increase in energy levels. There is also evidence that Synephrine can lead to an increase in muscle endurance. Like Higenamine and Hordenine, we see this dosed between 25mg and 50mg.

Theophylline – 20mg

Theophylline is known as a methylxanthine and a bronchodilator. It has been used to treat respiratory system issues. Theophylline is very similar to Theobromine and Caffeine. It may lead to an increase in energy, especially when combined with caffeine. Theophylline does stimulate the central nervous system similar to other stimulants. Regarding dosage, we do not find Theophylline used often in pre-workout supplements but doses up to 25mg are what we’ve seen.

Bioperine – 15mg

Bioperine is a black pepper extract used for ingredient absorption. This ensures you are getting the most of your active ingredients.

Halostachine – 15mg

Halostachine is structurally similar to Ephedrine and DMAA, but toned down. It’s been said that it is a much safer compound than DMAA. Halostachine has been used in several high stimulant based pre-workouts, so it is not uncommon, but it is not common either. It is known for its impact on energy and cognition. Users of Halostachine may experience an increase in energy and improved focus. Halostachine may also aid in fat burning. Dosing of Halostachine can be up to 50mg.

Yohimbine HCl – 2.5mg

Yohimbine HCl is another stimulant that is known for its fat burning properties. It is a very common ingredient used in pre-workouts in doses up to 4mg, but typically right around 2.5mg. Yohimbine is usually added as it has some stimulatory effects, especially when paired with caffeine. You’ll usually see Yohimbine replacing exotic stimulants in pre-workouts when they are taken off the market (ex. DMAA/AMP Citrate). It can certainly give you a “jittery” feeling depending on your tolerance.

Rauwolscrine – 2mg

Rauwolscrine is a version of Yohimbine, but much stronger. This is why we find it dosed at 2mg or less in pre-workouts. It has similar effects as Yohimbine as it may aid in fat loss, but also will help increase energy.

Huperzine A – 100mcg

Huperzine A is a cognitive enhancing ingredient that pairs well with caffeine and other stimulants. Huperzine A may inhibit an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which breaks down a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. More acetylcholine in the brain may increase focus and improve memory. We typically see this dosed at 50mcg to 200mcg.

Final Takeaway

We’ve used Committed USA’s Asylum several times and it works great. Many people will be focused on the 175mg of caffeine, but you need to look at the other stimulants that are in this product. There is a big dosage of stims that pair well with the 175mg caffeine to provide solid energy and great focus. The pumps have been decent too, but anytime you do take stimulants you will be constricting blood flow thus impacting your pump.

The taste was solid too. We had StrawMelon. We know flavor is a big purchase indicator, but we really want to urge you to look at the label and the overall effectiveness of this product. We will be conducting a full review, but after several uses we are fans of this pre-workout. It is dosed nicely using some stimulants you do not find every day. You also don’t experience a huge crash post-workout.
