Overview of Bodybuilding.com Signature Protein Crunch Bars

One of the many benefits Bodybuilding.com has is to see how certain products sell on their platform. Protein bars are a hot selling item, especially the newer baked bars that came out from brands like MusclePharm (Combat Crunch), RedCon1 (MRE Bar) and Chef Robert Irvine (FitCrunch).

Bodybuilding.com Signature Protein Crunch Bars are a lot like the MusclePharm Combat Crunch Bars, but with a much better price tag. The bars are made at Bakery Barn, the magical place all baked bars seem to be made, have a great texture and taste and will be one of the most affordable on the market today. If you want to mix things up, Bodybuilding.com Signature Protein Crunch Bars are worth the investment.

Why You Should Trust Our Reviews

  • EXPERT REVIEW PANEL
Our review panel is made up of individuals with many years of experience in the sports nutrition industry, dating back to the early 2000’s. Their tenure gives them knowledge on brands, supplements, ingredients, dosages and more.
  • FULL CONTAINER REVIEWS
Unlike the majority of “review” sites on the internet, Fitness Informant reviews every supplement on a full-container basis. What does this mean? It means that a review is not written or recorded until the last serving of that product has been finished. We’ve all had products that were great for the first couple of days, but then lost their effectiveness shortly after. We want to ensure you are getting a full review based on a full product.
  • INGREDIENT EDUCATION
We breakdown each ingredient in our reviews to educate you on exactly what the ingredients do, and what is the proper dosage of each ingredient to effectively do what they are intended to do.
  • 100% HONEST – NO B.S. REVIEWS
Our number #1 priority is to inform you proper supplement selection through honest reviews. The majority of “review” sites on the internet will push you to buy a certain product based on the commissions they received. Not us. We want you to purchase the highest quality supplements at the best value. We put your health and wellness first. To achieve your goals we want you to use only the best supplements that you can afford. We do this by being honest.

Testing Results and Ratings

We reviewed Bodybuilding.com Signature Protein Crunch Bars on four categories. We first start by looking at its ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at quality of protein used in the protein bars and amount, macros and other ingredients involved in the making of this protein bar.

Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to try the following flavors: Cookies & Cream.

Texture is important in a protein bar selection. We review the texture as well. We discuss chalkiness, chewiness, softness and crunch.

Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of ingredients, taste and texture in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of protein bars on the market.

Ingredients Profile

(8.5/10)

Bodybuilding.com Signature Protein Crunch Bars label

There are so many protein bars on the market today it is almost hard to determine which ones are good and which ones are bad. The truth is, many of them still have a bunch of stuff in them you don’t want, but they would still be better than a Snickers Bar. Bodybuilding.com Signature Protein Crunch Bars seemingly have a good macro profile and ingredients to go with it.

Let’s first look at the macros:

Calories: 230
Fat: 9g
Carbs: 20g
Protein: 20g

At first glance some may be concerned with the bar. With companies like Quest making bars with single digit carbs, seeing a bar with 20g of carbs and 200+ calories can be alarming. Keep in mind, one of our top rated bars, MRE Bar from RedCon1, actually has 29g carbs and 260 calories. Another top rated bar, Outright Bar, has 270 calories and 26g carbs (plus 12g fat). No need to get alarmed on 20g of carbs. The macros could be a bit better, but overall I am OK with them.

The protein source is the next area I like to look at. Bodybuilding.com uses whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate. Two quality protein sources. You will also find soy protein isolate, which I am not a fan of, to be honest. I would have been good with just the two sources of whey.

I also like to look at added sugars now since NLR (national label reform) requires it. It also requires brands to put sugar alcohols on the label. We get 5g sugar per bar, all added sugars. Added sugar means the brand put sugar in the bar from sources like sugar cane, honey, maple syrup, etc. At 5g it isn’t all that bad.

Overall, nothing stands off the label as concerning to me. I like the profile, the macros and the bars.

Taste

Cookies and Cream: (9.0/10)

I am a sucker for cookie and cream when they are done right. I think BBcom nailed the cookies and cream flavor on these bars. With the texture being the way it is too (more on that in a minute) it really plays into the indulgence job of the bar. The flavor has both that solid cookie (like an Oreo) and the cream that you come to expect from a really good cookies and cream bar. I was a fan of the taste on these bars.

Texture

(9.0/10)

The bar itself is very soft to chew. It also has a nice crunch from what I believe must be whey protein crisps. There is only a slight chalky feel to it, but nothing nearly like the protein bars of old. The main thing is these are baked, so they have that baked texture that so many people now expect and love in the bar. Without that little chalky-ness to it, these would be almost perfect.

Value

(9.5/10)

Bodybuilding.com has the luxury of running sales on their house brand quite frequently. For example, these bars are 12 for $24.99 which is standard pricing on bars. BBcom will run 10%-20% off sales all the time making these even more reasonable. Because the bars are good, have a nice texture and taste great, I think the full price of $24.99 is worth it. Get these on sale and you are winning!
