MuscleTech Nitro-Tech Casein Gold protein powder is a standard casein powder that won’t blow your socks off, but it can get you by. I say this because it uses Milk Protein to provide the Casein in this supplement, not pure casein. When you go down to the ingredient section we will break it down. It is an OK protein powder that is priced where it should be. Ingredients Profile

Some use pure casein (slow digesting protein) and others, like MuscleTech’s Nitro-Tech Casein Gold, uses Milk Protein to provide Casein.We get 24g of protein. This is made up of Milk Protein Isolate, Calcium Caseinate and Micellar Casein. The latter being the best of the three, and also the one that is used the least of. Milk Protein is essentially 80% casein and 20% whey. Calcium Caseinate is typically used in products where it needs to be quickly dissolved in water…like coffee creamer. Finally, we get the best form of Casein at Micellar Casein. The issue here is we don’t know the ratio of the three used to make up the 24g of protein. Sure, they all have a version of casein, but some are higher quality than others.
There are artificial flavors used in this product as well. Something many companies are trying to avoid, but you still find them everywhere.

Overall, a solid macro profile. Effectiveness

Listen, this is to be used before bed or mixed with whey post-workout. The slow digestion properties of casein helps feed you throughout the day or when you sleep. However, due to three versions used, and all not the highest quality, the effectiveness takes a slight hit in points. We’re not hating on it at all, it is still good to use it versus not using it. It’s not undrinkable or unbearable, but compared to other casein powders we’ve tried that were vanilla flavor, this one is our least favorite. Compared to whey proteins, this one takes even a further step back. We think it has a lot to do with Calcium Caseinate being used and Milk Protein. They tend to mix better than just pure Micellar Casein.
