Overview of RedCon1 Grunt

Grunt is a good choice for people who want a simple/versatile amino supplement that can be used as an intra, between meals, or as a way to avoid fasted training in the AM while still training on an empty stomach.

The price is good, the taste is smooth, and there isn’t too much to complain about here. Give Grunt a shot one day, it certainly won’t be a waste of your money.

Why You Should Trust Our Reviews

  • EXPERT REVIEW PANEL
Our review panel is made up of individuals with many years of experience in the sports nutrition industry, dating back to the early 2000’s. Their tenure gives them knowledge on brands, supplements, ingredients, dosages and more.
  • FULL CONTAINER REVIEWS
Unlike the majority of “review” sites on the internet, Fitness Informant reviews every supplement on a full-container basis. What does this mean? It means that a review is not written or recorded until the last serving of that product has been finished. We’ve all had products that were great for the first couple of days, but then lost their effectiveness shortly after. We want to ensure you are getting a full review based on a full product.
  • INGREDIENT EDUCATION
We breakdown each ingredient in our reviews to educate you on exactly what the ingredients do, and what is the proper dosage of each ingredient to effectively do what they are intended to do.
  • 100% HONEST – NO B.S. REVIEWS
Our number #1 priority is to inform you proper supplement selection through honest reviews. The majority of “review” sites on the internet will push you to buy a certain product based on the commissions they received. Not us. We want you to purchase the highest quality supplements at the best value. We put your health and wellness first. To achieve your goals we want you to use only the best supplements that you can afford. We do this by being honest.

Testing Results and Ratings

We reviewed RedCon1 Grunt on five categories. We first start by looking at it’s ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the different ingredients used in this amino acid supplement, what their intention is and how effectively dosed are each ingredient.

RYSE

We then look at effectiveness. An effective amino acid product will use high quality, proven ingredients, at clinically backed dosages.  This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that amino product will be.

Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Pineapple Banana.

Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 12-16 oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.

Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of BCAA/EAA products on the market.

Ingredients Profile

(8.2/10)Grunt Label

To start this off, Grunt is a very basic EAA supplement, and there isn’t really a whole lot to say. It’s a transparent EAA product, no fillers, no extras… just one scoop with 9.5 grams worth of EAAs and flavoring.

So to start, we have to mention that there are 6 grams of BCAAs (L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine). Here we have it in a 2:1:1 ratio, which is the only ratio that has any studies on it. Here we have leucine at 3 grams, and the other 2 at 1.5 grams. This is slightly higher than the typical 2.5 grams of leucine which is typical in other products. After the 3 BCAAs, we have the other EAAs listed, with L-Lysine at 300mg, and L-Threonine and L-Phenylalanine both at 250mg. These doses are both on par with some other products we have deemed good here on Fitness Informant, such as Purge Sports BCAAX, so it gets a good note here. The next 2 aminos are a bit lower, at 50mg for L-Tryptophan, and 25mg for both L-Histidine and L-Methionine.

There is nothing else in here to make it “better”. Personally I’d like to see some electrolytes added in here, there isn’t too much to complain about. It can be used as both an intra or between meals.

Effectiveness

(8.5/10)

EAAs are a bit difficult to judge, as unlike sleep aids or pre-workouts, it’s really hard to “feel” it and there are no real acute effects.

Grunt is versatile and can be used either between meals, as an intra, or on mornings when you don’t have time to get a protein meal in before you hit the weights. Personally I took Grunt in the mornings. I don’t like to eat before I head to the gym, so Grunt provided me with some quick energy and also aided with my recovery with my calories being low. Recovery comes down to many aspects of your routine, so don’t expect this to let you hit a PR one day and not feel it the next.

So basically, Grunt did what was expected, however it could have been more effective if it had some extras such as electrolytes to help with hydration.

Taste

Pineapple Banana: (8.7/10)

I had the pleasure of trying the Pineapple Banana flavor. It is a bit more banana than pineapple for sure. It’s similar to banana “Runts”, or some other similar candies with that artificial banana flavor. The pineapple is more noticeable in the aftertaste.

Personally I’m a fan of this flavor, as it is quite refreshing, especially with the aftertaste during a workout. There are so many to choose from, so if you don’t like this one, you should be able to find one you like.

Mixability

(8.7/10)

Like many other aminos on the market, they do tend to foam up. Grunt is no different, and when you first shake it, you’ll notice that the foam gets on the sides of your shaker cup. So you’ll begin to think it doesn’t mix well, but if you wait about 30 seconds to a minute and look back in your shaker cup, you’ll notice that the foam on the sides goes down significantly.

No clumps to speak of, so the only complaint here really is the foam that settles down.

Value

(8.8/10)

You can get RedCon1 for around $30 with a coupon code (INFORMANT), or even under that in some cases. For 30 servings this is a solid deal for an EAA product. You’re not getting ripped off at this price, and this makes it worth trying once at the very least.
