Why You Should Trust Our Reviews

  • EXPERT REVIEW PANEL
Our review panel is made up of individuals with many years of experience in the sports nutrition industry, dating back to the early 2000’s. Their tenure gives them knowledge on brands, supplements, ingredients, dosages and more.
  • FULL CONTAINER REVIEWS
Unlike the majority of “review” sites on the internet, Fitness Informant reviews every supplement on a full-container basis. What does this mean? It means that a review is not written or recorded until the last serving of that product has been finished. We’ve all had products that were great for the first couple of days, but then lost their effectiveness shortly after. We want to ensure you are getting a full review based on a full product.
  • INGREDIENT EDUCATION
We breakdown each ingredient in our reviews to educate you on exactly what the ingredients do, and what is the proper dosage of each ingredient to effectively do what they are intended to do.
  • 100% HONEST – NO B.S. REVIEWS
Our number #1 priority is to inform you proper supplement selection through honest reviews. The majority of “review” sites on the internet will push you to buy a certain product based on the commissions they received. Not us. We want you to purchase the highest quality supplements at the best value. We put your health and wellness first. To achieve your goals we want you to use only the best supplements that you can afford. We do this by being honest.

Testing Results and Ratings

We reviewed SteelFit Steel Pump on five categories. We first start by looking at its ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the different ingredients used in the pre-workout supplement, what their intention is and how effectively dosed are each ingredient.

We then look at effectiveness. An effective pre-workout product will use high quality, proven ingredients, at clinically backed dosages.  This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that pre-workout will be.

Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Pink Grapefruit

Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 6-8oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. We use the Official Shaker Cup of Fitness Informant, the Ice Shaker.

Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of pre-workout products on the market.

Ingredients Profile

(8.0/10)

This formula does include the basics that you typically see in a pre-workout; However, SteelFit added a few innovative ingredients that work to strengthen the profile. Let’s breakdown the label and check out exactly what we are getting here with Steel Pump.

SteelFit Steel Pump labelWe start off in the Performance Matrix with 3,000mg of L-Citrulline Malate. This ingredient improves blood flow and endurance while also enhancing recovery. This version is L-citrulline bound with malic acid, and we don’t exactly know the ratio of the composition but we will assume it is 2:1. We like seeing L-Citrulline dosed between 3 and 5 grams, so we need at least 5 grams of the Citrulline Malate form to be properly dosed here.

Next, we have Betaine which is thought to increase power output and aid in workload capacity. We like seeing this ingredient dosed above 1500mg, so we are good here. Beta-alanine is infamous for the itchy feeling (paresthesia) it gives you. However, it can increase muscular endurance when used in dosages above 1600mg per day (requires a loading phase).

Peak ATP® is an innovative patented ingredient that has been proven to decrease ATP (cellular energy) consumption during intense exercise as well as increasing power and muscular excitability. Recent studies have supported the use of Peak ATP® at higher dosages around the 400mg mark for the most optimal results. We are getting 450mg here with Steel Pump.

KSM-66® (Ashwagandha extract) is an ingredient that has a plethora of uses and benefits. Regarding pre-workout use, it can be beneficial for inducing an “anti-anxiety” effect. This can help contain the energy you get from the stimulants and allow you to remain focused during your workout rather than have your mind bouncing all over the place. We are getting 300mg here which is the suggested single serving dosage.

Grape seed extract is an ingredient that can help increase blood flow. We are getting a solid dose here at 200mg. L-Glutathione is thought to have some benefit in stabilizing NO (Nitric Oxide) levels when combined alongside Citrulline. As your NO levels rise, it is thought that glutathione may be helpful in keeping them elevated for an extended period of time. We are getting 50mg here, however many useful studies use around 150mg or more.

Now let’s get into the Energy and Focus blend. We start off with 1000mg of MCT powder, which provides an alternative source of energy during your training and also may help to facilitate an insulin spike. There isn’t really a standard dose for MCT powder when used pre-workout. Caffeine Anhydrous is included at 300mg and should be more than enough to keep energy levels high during your training session.

Next up is L-Theanine at 200mg. This ingredient is typically combined with stimulants to promote a calming effect that allow the user to increase their focus. 200mg is a solid dose to pair with the 300mg dose of caffeine. Finally, we have Alpha-GPC at 150mg. This ingredient pairs well with caffeine to improve alertness and brain functionality. Alpha-GPC has typically shown to be most effective when used above 300mg, and we are only getting 150mg here.

Overall, this profile is pretty simple, but also solid. While it does use a few innovative and patented ingredients, a few of them are slightly under dosed. SteelFit does a nice job here crafting a profile that gets the job done.

Effectiveness

(8.2/10)

Based on our experience with the other products from SteelFit, we had a good feeling this one wouldn’t disappoint.

The energy component of Steel Pump is pretty solid. Steel Pump is not just a pump formula, as it is actually a stimulant based preworkout. It is primarily fueled by the 300mg dose of caffeine. If you are not very stim tolerant, this will provide a huge boost in energy. The biggest thing with a high dose of caffeine is the crash that will come after it. We have the addition of theanine here to help combat that post workout crash. We did feel like the crash was still there, but it was not very apparent.

The pumps with this product were nothing to write home about. We don’t get an efficacious dose of citrulline, which would greatly benefit this product. Steel Pump is not a super high stim formula, which is a positive thing since stimulants cause vasoconstriction. While using this product, we would achieve a pump during the workout but it was nothing compared to a product containing nitrates or something similar.

The strength and power output is a pretty solid component of Steel Pump. We have betaine, beta-alanine, and Peak ATP that aid in this category. SteelFit gives us on-par dosages of all these ingredients, making this a solid aspect of this profile.

The focus on this preworkout is okay. We like seeing the theanine and the Alpha-GPC, however we feel the Alpha-GPC would have more of an effect if it was dosed higher. The caffeine again fuels this portion of the profile, but we would like to see more focus ingredients included to harness the higher dosage of caffeine anhydrous.

Overall, we had a good experience with SteelFit Steel Pump. It boasts a basic formula that gets the job done in the gym. We had some good workouts while using this product and we recommend it to anyone looking for a good preworkout on a budget.

Taste

Pink Grapefruit: (8.5/10)

The pink grapefruit was actually quite a different flavor that many fruit flavors we have had before. It had such a real-life grapefruit taste, and almost felt like you had squirted some juice into your shaker cup.

When I say it tastes like grapefruit juice, I mean real grapefruit. It didn’t have a sweet and overpowering flavor like many fruit flavors on the market today. It was a smooth, natural tasting flavor with a hint of the citrus sour taste that accompanies real grapefruits. This flavor might not be enjoyed by all, but it is definitely worthy of the “pink grapefruit” title it is given.
