TRU Pre uses 13 different ingredients to give you a solid pre-workout. TRU Pre first starts with 6g of Cittruline Malate. According to Examine.com, Cittruline Malate improves athletic performance in both aerobic and anaerobic exercises. It also helps increase arginine levels in your body which products NO, which leads to a great pump. Clinical dosing is 6g, which means this is clinically dosed.
We then get 6g of the proven 2:1:1 ratio BCAA. BCAAs consist of Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine. BCAAs have been proven to reduce fatigue and increase your recovery time. I am not a huge proponent of BCAAs prior to lifting, or taking up room in a PWO, but if you're going to use it, at least it is an effective dose.
After that 23 get 3.2g of Beta Alanine. Beta Alanine has been shown to increase strength output. It is clinically dosed at 3.2g, which means we are clinically dosed here again.
The next ingredient is Hydromax, one of my favorites. This is dosed at 1.5g. This is a good dosing of Hydromax which has been shown to increase fluid levels in your muscle. What does this do? It increases your time to exhaustion while increasing blood flow to your muscles. This increases your pump, which in-turn, increases muscle size.
We then get Betaine Anhydros. This has been shown to increase strength output and endurance. Recommended dosage is around 2.5g. This comes in at 1.5g.
Taurine comes in at 1g. Taurine has been shown in studies to improve muscle strength and endurance. Dosing for Taurine is between 500mg and 2g. We typically see it around 500mg-1g. Solid dosing here.
The next several ingredients help with cognitive functions. Acetyl-L-Tyrosine is dosed at 500mg. This is typical. Tyrosine has been shown to increase alertness. Choline Bitartrate is also dosed at 500mg. Again, typical. This has been shown to improve memory function.
Caffeine comes in at 350mg. This was surprising to me from NutraKey. Not in a bad way, but I thought it would come in less. I was pleasantly surprised. We also get 5mg of Black Pepper Extract which helps with absorption. The last ingredient is Huperzine A which is dosed at 50mcg. This helps with cognitive functionality.
Overall, this profile is excellent considering there are not crazy stims like DMHA/DMAA.

I was very happy with the effectiveness of this product. In fact, I would take this at 5am for my morning workouts, and in the beginning I didn’t realize a serving was 2-scoops. I was able to get a great pump and solid energy off of 1/2 of a serving (1-scoop). There were days, big muscle group days like back/legs, where I could tell I was lacking, but that was mostly because I was only on one scoop.
At two scoops you are getting the clinically dosed ingredients you need when powering through a workout. TRU Pre delivers a solid pump and good energy. The one area I would like to see more emphasis would be in the cognitive section. I do like Choline Bitartrate a lot, but I like the form of Alpha-GPC better for Choline. Noopept would be another solid choice.

Flavor: Blue Rock Candy
Blue Rock Candy TRU Pre tasted great. Unlike some Blue Raspberry flavors, which can be tart, this was smooth and refreshing to drink. At a serving size of 23.3g you need more water for enhanced mixibility, which means you want it to taste good.

At 23.3g you are getting a bigger serving size than a lot of the small 1-scoop pre-workout powders on the market. When you have a bigger serving size you require more water for solubility. Overall, the mixibility was good. It could be a lot worse given the serving size, but we were happy with how the powder mixed into the water.

You see a lot of 20-serving pre-workout powders retailing for $40 or more on the market today. The good news is with TRU Pre you are getting an effective, clinically dosed PWO. This justifies a $40 price tag. Others in the same category, that do not use DMHA or DMAA, retail for around the same price. The one thing keeping me away from a perfect value is the 6g of BCAAs and the use of more cognitive enhancing ingredients. I don't mind the BCAAs in the PWO, but I would rather supplement with my own fermented BCAAs post workout.
