Overview of Ignite Nutrition Amino-Up

Ignite Nutrition is a new company with Martyn Ford as the face. Martyn was with 5% Nutrition during the Piana days, but has since gone off and done his own line.

Amino Up is a solid EAA product. While it isn’t perfect or anything groundbreaking, it is certainly an option worth considering if you’re in the market for an EAA/electrolyte product. Your recovery will be better, and your performance may increase as well due to increased hydration. All for a fair price.

Why You Should Trust Our Reviews

  • EXPERT REVIEW PANEL
Our review panel is made up of individuals with many years of experience in the sports nutrition industry, dating back to the early 2000’s. Their tenure gives them knowledge on brands, supplements, ingredients, dosages and more.
  • FULL CONTAINER REVIEWS
Unlike the majority of “review” sites on the internet, Fitness Informant reviews every supplement on a full-container basis. What does this mean? It means that a review is not written or recorded until the last serving of that product has been finished. We’ve all had products that were great for the first couple of days, but then lost their effectiveness shortly after. We want to ensure you are getting a full review based on a full product.
  • INGREDIENT EDUCATION
We breakdown each ingredient in our reviews to educate you on exactly what the ingredients do, and what is the proper dosage of each ingredient to effectively do what they are intended to do.
  • 100% HONEST – NO B.S. REVIEWS
Our number #1 priority is to inform you proper supplement selection through honest reviews. The majority of “review” sites on the internet will push you to buy a certain product based on the commissions they received. Not us. We want you to purchase the highest quality supplements at the best value. We put your health and wellness first. To achieve your goals we want you to use only the best supplements that you can afford. We do this by being honest.

Testing Results and Ratings

We reviewed Ignite Nutrition Amino-Up on five categories. We first start by looking at it’s ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the different ingredients used in this amino acid supplement, what their intention is and how effectively dosed are each ingredient.

We then look at effectiveness. An effective amino acid product will use high quality, proven ingredients, at clinically backed dosages.  This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that amino product will be.

Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Fruit Punch.

Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 12-16 oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.

Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of BCAA/EAA products on the market.

Ingredients Profile

(8.3/10)Ignite Nutrition Amino-Up Fruit Punch

The profile is pretty simple at first glance. You have 3 blends, a BCAA blend, a, EAA blend, and an electrolyte blend.

Here you get 4.5 grams of BCAAs at an 8:1:1 ratio. You get 4 grams of Leucine, and then 500mg of both Isoleucine and Valine. We’d like to see this in the 2:1:1 ratio, as that is the ratio that has any studies done on it. Although it will do the job for increase MPS either way.

Next you have the EAAs at 1.5 grams. It’s in a proprietary blend. While we always give credit to transparency, this one isn’t bad. Unlike something like creatine and betaine, where we know exactly the dosages we want, EAAs don’t really have that. So in short, it’s nice that they are in here.

Lastly, we have the electrolytes. A full gram of minerals, including magnesium citrate, calcium citrate, sodium citrate, potassium chloride, and the list goes on. It’s a nice amount, and it’s nice to see citrate forms of minerals as they absorb very well.

Effectiveness

(8.6/10)

Amino products can be difficult to really gauge the effectiveness on. Recovery seemed to be on the better side, as I was able to hit the gym 5-6 times a week without DOMs getting in the way.

There was no way to tell if it was better for recovery than a basic 2:1:1 BCAA product, however it is a better option if you want to hit the gym in the AM but want to have some aminos in your system.

Amino Up shines for the hydration benefits. There was no cramping during my workouts or any other signs of dehydration. This is quite beneficial, especially when you’re on a “high-stim diet’, as excess caffeine and other stimulants can dehydrate as they have diuretic effects.

Taste

Fruit Punch: (8.0/10)

We had the fruit punch flavor and it was good, just nothing special. They did a good job at masking the flavor of the aminos, and it’s easy to sip on. It certainly isn’t something you wouldn’t get sick of.

While of course it has some sweetness to it, it isn’t overpowering, which makes it versatile. If you like to sip on something during your workout, while this isn’t overly refreshing, it won’t make you feel like you just ate a bag of candy either.

Mixability

(8.5/10)

Due to the high l-leucine amount/ratio, Amino Up has some foam to it, however not as bad as we were expecting. There is still enough for it to cling on the sides of your shaker cup.

There is no clumping to speak of, but you’ll probably want to shake this up and wait a few minutes to let the foam settle down before you chug this. It does have a heavy dye to it, which is very noticeable in our mixing video.

Value

(8.3/10)

You get 30 servings for around $35. While not the cheapest, it isn’t just a BCAA products. You get all of the EAAs along with a nice dose of electrolytes in here with some solid forms of minerals. This isn’t exactly your typical 2:1:1 BCAA with flavor, you’re getting more.
