While most people associate Carnitine with weight loss, specific forms tend to act differently. In a study done on 10 healthy, recreational weight-trained men, ages 18-29, all received 2g of LCLT for a period of 3 weeks, then had a 1 week washout period. The subject performed a squat protocol of 5 sets for 15-20 repetitions. Blood samples were taken immediately after training, as well as 15, 30, 120, and 180 minutes afterwards. The results showed that although there were no significant changes in hormones, there was a significant decrease in exercise induced muscle damage. This means that LCLT has some promise to aid in recovery.
What’s interesting, is that there is another study which essentially showed the same result. This study was done on both genders, however in a different age range, 30-44. Essentially this is a replication of the previous study, and it has the same result, namely the subjects has experienced less exercise induced muscle damage.
It must be mentioned that both studies failed to show an increase in hormones as well as power output.
