Overview of EndurElite PerformElite
EndurElite is the supplement company for the endurance athlete. They do not make supplements targeted at bodybuilders like most of us here on Fitness Informant. However, the products that they do formulate and make carry solid benefits that the endurance athlete can leverage.
PerformElite is the pre-workout of EndurElite. PerformElite focuses on increasing your overall VO2 with the use of common and newer ingredients. It noticeably helps with endurance and breathing when used. Not overly dosed on caffeine so you don’t experience a crash, PerformElite would be a solid choice for you runners, bikers and rowers.
Testing Results and Ratings
We reviewed EndurElite PerformElite on five categories. We first start by looking at it’s ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the different ingredients used in the pre-workout, what their intention is and how effectively dosed are each ingredient.
We then look at effectiveness. An effective pre-workout supplement will use high quality, proven ingredients, at clinically backed dosages. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.
Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Fast Fruit Burst.
Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 12oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.
Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of pre-workout products on the market.
As we mentioned in the beginning, PerformElite is a pre-workout designed for the endurance athlete. You won’t be finding any crazy stimulants in this. You also won’t find any pump ingredients and limited strength ingredients. You will find ingredients that enhance and improve your endurance.
We start with 1,670mg of Beet Root Powder. This does increase blood flow carrying oxygen rich blood to your muscles allowing you to push a little longer. Don’t believe me? Eat a whole bag of beets and you will see. This is a great dosage of Beet Root Powder.
Next, you get 1,500mg of Taurine. Taurine has been shown to increase endurance and strength output. We find this dosed between 500mg-2,000mg. You can do the math, optimal dosage.
PeakO2 is a cool ingredient that we find more and more in endurance enhancing supplements. This is dosed at 1,000mg. Studies have shown that PeakO2 users improved their time to exhaustion by 70-seconds. It also helps with oxygen utilization, oxygen uptake and more. Studies show that optimal dosage is 1g per day. That’s what you’re getting here.
Beta-Alanine is dosed at 3.2g. This is the clinical dosage of Beta-Alanine. Beta-Alanine is used for endurance. Some studies link it to reducing lactic acid (the stuff that can cause muscle soreness or DOMS).
Choline Bitartrate is dosed at 1g. This is a cognitive enhancing ingredient. This is actually pretty high compared to some pre-workouts designed for strength athletes. I am a fan of the higher dosage. You need mental strength while completing endurance activities.
ActiGin, used to prolong endurance and help with recovery, is dosed at 50mg. The recommended daily use of ActiGin is 50mg.
Huperzine-A is a cognitive enhancing ingredient. This is dosed at .05mg or 50mcg. Recommended dosage is 50-200mcg per day. This is at the low end, but still within range.
PerformElite also uses elevATP at 200mg. This is a solid dosage of elevATP which has been shown to improve endurance and output. Typical dosage is 150mg, so you’re getting more than that here.
Lastly, you get 300mg of energy in PURENERGY (150mg) and Caffeine Anhydrous (150mg). PURENERGY extends the half-life of caffeine by 25% meaning you will have prolonged sustained energy. This means you will get the energy right away from the Caffeine A, but not the crash since it uses PURENERGY as well. Think about it, you want a nice sustained energy throughout your endurance activity.
Overall, this is an endurance enhancing pre-workout, nothing more. Based on that, the ingredients are great and dosage is optimal for an endurance athlete.
Again, this is an endurance enhancing supplement. I would not use this for strength training. It’s not what it is meant for. It lacks pump and many of the strength ingredients you would need.
However, for endurance only, this is very effective. I would use this product for my cardio-only days. I am in no-way an endurance athlete, but it did make the 20-30 minutes on the stairmaster go a lot better. You can tell you breath easier and you don’t get tired as quickly.
This is a great pre-workout if you’re training for a 5k, half marathon or a full. Hell, this is even good for a triathlon.
Fast Fruit Burst:
The flavor of PerformElite is Fast Fruit Burst. Imagine this, you put a bunch of fruit in a blender and blend it up. Then take a drink. That’s what this is like. It is completely different then what you’re used too. It’s not like fruit punch at all. It is refreshing and tastes decent.
Each serving of PerformElite is 10g. This mixes great in water. You don’t even have to use a lot, but since you’re taking this for an endurance activity, you might as well take it with 12-16oz of water. A couple shakes of the shaker cup and BOOM, you’re ready to drink it.
This area is tough for me. If you’re an endurance athlete you have to ask yourself, are you willing to pay $40 for 25-servings? That is $1.60 a serving. This is cheaper than Pedialyte or a sports drink, more effective too. BUT if you compare it to other pre-workouts on the market, this lacks a lot of the other main ingredients for strength training.
For the purpose of value here, I compare it to other endurance only pre-workouts, I feel that is fair. At $1.60 a serving it is a good value since it does in fact work. If you are a runner, biker or rower, I would seriously consider adding this into your pre-workout plan as you prep for your next event.
