Why You Should Trust Our Reviews

  • EXPERT REVIEW PANEL
Our review panel is made up of individuals with many years of experience in the sports nutrition industry, dating back to the early 2000’s. Their tenure gives them knowledge on brands, supplements, ingredients, dosages and more.
  • FULL CONTAINER REVIEWS
Unlike the majority of “review” sites on the internet, Fitness Informant reviews every supplement on a full-container basis. What does this mean? It means that a review is not written or recorded until the last serving of that product has been finished. We’ve all had products that were great for the first couple of days, but then lost their effectiveness shortly after. We want to ensure you are getting a full review based on a full product.
  • INGREDIENT EDUCATION
We breakdown each ingredient in our reviews to educate you on exactly what the ingredients do, and what is the proper dosage of each ingredient to effectively do what they are intended to do.
  • 100% HONEST – NO B.S. REVIEWS
Our number #1 priority is to inform you proper supplement selection through honest reviews. The majority of “review” sites on the internet will push you to buy a certain product based on the commissions they received. Not us. We want you to purchase the highest quality supplements at the best value. We put your health and wellness first. To achieve your goals we want you to use only the best supplements that you can afford. We do this by being honest.

Testing Results and Ratings

We reviewed MuscleForce Defiant on five categories. We first start by looking at its ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at the different ingredients used in the pre-workout supplement, what their intention is and how effectively dosed are each ingredient.

RYSE

We then look at effectiveness. An effective pre-workout product will use high quality, proven ingredients, at clinically backed dosages.  This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that pre-workout will be.

Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Rainbow Sherbert

Mixability refers to how well the powder mixes in 6-8oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. We use the Official Shaker Cup of Fitness Informant, the Ice Shaker.

Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of pre-workout products on the market.

Ingredients Profile

(8.2/10)

defiant profileMuscleForce’s Defiant is a very potent stimulant-heavy pre-workout that is packed with energy. It includes some ingredients many may not have heard before. Let’s jump right into this label and take a look at what we are getting here.

We start off with Citrulline Malate at 6 grams. This gives us a 2:1 ratio, therefore yielding 4 grams of total citrulline. We like seeing at least 4 grams to increase blood flow and help induce pumps. Beta-Alanine heightens muscular endurance and gives that “tingly” sensation to preworkouts that include it at a higher dose. You will definitely get that here as we are getting a solid dose of 3.2g.

Next, we get two cognitive ingredients with Choline Bitartrate and N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine (NALT). While we are getting a good dose of choline, we would like to see it in a different form. We are fans of Alpha-GPC here at FI so that would be a nice addition if we had it included at 600mg. As for NALT, the recommended starting dose is at 350mg, which is what we are getting here. NALT is not a bad ingredient, but L-Tyrosine would be the better form to use in our eyes. It works to improve mental focus and harness the energy and jitteriness you get from the other stimulants.

Methylxanthine Anhydrous is a stimulant that is structurally similar to caffeine. It performs very similar to caffeine anhydrous in terms of the amount of energy it will give you. We are getting a pretty steep dose at 350mg. Glucuronolactone is an ingredient commonly used in energy drinks to make the stimulant effects last longer. We are getting 300mg of this ingredient.

Eria Jarensis is a stimulant that we have grown to appreciate here at FI. It gives strong increases in focus and mood when used at the appropriate dosages. There is no recommended dose of this stimulant, but we feel the 100mg we are getting is good according to the level of other stimulants we are getting. 2-aminoisoheptane, aka DMHA, is dosed at 100mg in this formula. This is a powerful stimulant that just adds to the large pool of stims you are getting here.

Cymbidium extract is an uncommon ingredient, but is used to increase energy levels and also has some vasodilating properties. The typical dose of this ingredient is usually between 100-150mg, so we are good here. Finally, we have Huperzine which prevents acetylcholine from being broken down in the brain. This ingredient helps maintain focus, and is dosed very well at 300mcg.

Overall, this profile is steeply dosed with stimulants. We personally do not use profiles like this on a regular basis here at FI, but for some of you stim junkies out there it may be just what you are looking for.

Effectiveness

(8.4/10)

By taking one look at the profile, you can probably guess which categories vastly outperformed the others here. MuscleForce did their best to keep the vasodilation high, but the stims are dosed a bit too high to maintain good blood flow.

The energy is by far the best category here. It is actually phenomenal, and we would have this preworkout ranked among the strongest we have tried here at FI. You are getting 350mg of Methylxanthine, and 100mg of DMHA so if you aren’t stimulated then you need to lay off the stims for a while. If we were to add this product to our supplement arsenal, it would be tucked away for special occasions. We surprisingly didn’t notice too much of a crash with this product either.

The focus you get from Defiant is pretty good as well. We get a solid amount of focus from the Choline, Tyrosine and Eria Jarensis, but we still felt like the stimulants sometimes had an overbearing effect. With the stimulants being so high, it is sometimes difficult to accurately assess the focus component, but we feel its adequate.

Strength and power output were not too big of a concern when formulating this profile. We are getting the proper dosage of Beta-alanine, but that’s all we have as everything else really just adds to energy or focus. We would like to see Betaine added and maybe some more innovative ingredients such as PeakO2.

The pumps are not too good either with just this product alone. We have a high amount of stims, with 6g of Citrulline Malate and Cymbidium to balance it out. We didn’t feel like we achieved a very good pump while using this, but it makes since when looking at the stim profile. However, you could stack this product with MuscleForce’s non-stim pump formula, Obedient X3 which should definitively make a noticeable difference.

This product performs well in certain categories. It is meant to be a high-stim powerhouse, which makes sense when you notice that pump and power output ingredients do not get as much attention. We had some very energized workouts using Defiant.

Taste

Rainbow Sherbert: (9.0/10)

We really like this flavor. The flavor was very sweet, but satisfying. MuscleForce has quite an impressive flavor system going on with their line of products. We really haven’t tried anything we weren’t impressed with. Rainbow Sherbet immediately makes you think of the ice cream flavor, which delivers a rich, fruity flavor. That’s pretty similar to what you’re going to get with this flavor of Defiant. Nice work from the team at MuscleForce.

Mixability

(8.5/10)

When we used the recommended 8-10oz of water, it mixed pretty well. You do have some grit that settles towards the bottom and on the sides of the shaker cup, but it’s nothing that is bothersome as you drink it. Although it doesn’t completely mix in water, we really don’t have any complaints here.

We used the Official Shaker Cup of Fitness Informant, The Ice Shaker.

Check out the video above for a full mixability test.

Value

(9.0/10)

You can get Defiant from the MuscleForce website at $40 for 30-servings. However, if you use code INFORMANT, it knocks off 15% bringing the price down to $34 per unit. At this price point, you can get this product at just $1.13 per serving. We think that is a pretty solid deal if you are in the market for a high stim preworkout. We also want to mention that we appreciate the fact that MuscleForce is still giving us a full 30-serving unit. Nowadays, many companies have went to a standard 20-serving tub on their high stim preworkouts for who knows what reason.
