CEN Whey is one of those unique spins on protein powder. It is sweetened with Stevia and features ProHydrolase, an ingredient to help with the breakdown and absorption of proteins. This is the first protein we’ve seen with this ingredient and the studies seem to back it. We first start by looking at it’s ingredient profile. This portion of the review looks at quality of protein used, amount and other ingredients involved in the making of this protein powder.

We then look at effectiveness. A high quality protein will be effective. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.

Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out Chocolate.

Mixability refers to how well the protein powder mixes in 12oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.

Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Ingredients Profile

(10/10)[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]The one thing CEN could do a better job on this product is to call out that it is a whey protein isolate. This is a higher quality (>90%) protein powder that is absorbed quicker than your traditional whey protein concentrate. Let’s dive into the label.

Here are the macros:

Fats: .5g
Carbs: 3g
Protein: 26g

The 26g of whey protein isolate makes up 78% of the serving size. This is typically higher on an isolate, but with CEN Whey there is a reason.

CEN Whey also includes ProHydrolase. This ingredient is a patent ingredient from Deerland Enzymes. Without getting too scientific, ProHydrolase essentially can quickly breakdown the proteins and increase the amount of amino acids in the blood stream (the building blocks of muscle). This is a huge benefit post-workout. I have not seen a product on the market use this yet. Kudos to CEN!

This product is sweetened with Stevia and Monk Fruit, not Sucralose. This does affect the taste, which we will talk about later, but it’s better than the artificial sweeteners used out there on the market.

Effectiveness

The profile was a 10, so effectiveness should also be a 10. With the addition of ProHydrolase and the research behind it, that is a huge benefit over a lot of other isolates on the market. The quicker you can breakdown proteins and get the amino acids in the blood stream, the quicker muscle protein synthesis can start and help you recover and build muscle.

The other thing about this Isolate protein is you don’t get bloat with it. Taste

When it comes to taste, naturally sweetened products in this world really lack. The label says chocolate, but it’s a weird chocolate taste. It isn’t terrible, but it sure doesn’t taste like chocolate milk or a chocolate shake. I knew this going in. Mixibility

Being an isolate, it mixes very well in your typically 12oz of water. I used just a blender bottle with the metal spiral ball. It worked well. Value

After looking at the profile I thought to myself, if they can price this right, it could be a home run. Unfortunately, this is a 22 serving, 1.64lb bag that retails for $55. Ouch. Listen, I get it costs money using ProHydrolase, but the consumer is not to this point yet. When you can buy a 5lb tub of a tri-blend protein (albeit doesn’t have ProHydrolase) for less than this…you’re going to have a tough time convincing the consumer, and me, to buy this product.

More research and credibility needs to be done INDEPENDENTLY to prove ProHydrolase is all that and more at this price tag. Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out Chocolate Brownie.

Mixability refers to how well the protein powder mixes in 12oz of water. We use the shaker bottle test. This would be your typical Blender Bottle with the spiral chrome ball.

Finally, we talk about value. Value is the combination of profile, effectiveness, taste and mixability in relation to cost. Ingredients Profile

Most times when a bodybuilder puts their name on a product, the product sucks. That’s just the reality of the situation. RCSS King Whey is a fully transparent label featuring 20g of whey protein concentrate and 5g of whey protein isolate for a total of 25g of protein.

This is typical with protein powders, to be anywhere between 20-25g per serving. I like the idea of having a blended protein, meaning both whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate. I would like, however, more WPI in a blend. This features 20g of whey protein concentrate, which is great. This is slower absorbing than whey protein isolate. I would like to see 10g of WPI with 15g of WPC, but at the end of the day it still isn’t terrible. It is nice to get 5g of fast absorbing protein.

The one area we are unsure of is the quality of whey protein concentrate. WPC can be anywhere between 34% and 80% in terms of quality. It would be nice to see this listed out on the label. WPI has to be 90%+. The 25g of protein per serving is actually 76% protein per serving, not terrible.

Overall, the profile is good. Effectiveness

Effectiveness on protein is really a direct extension of the ingredient deck. We rated the ingredient deck an 8 out of 10, so effectiveness falls into the same category.

As we mentioned before, you will get 5g of fast absorbing whey protein isolate and 20g of slower absorbing whey protein concentrate. This is solid for feeding your body post workout. Again, a direct extension of the ingredient deck.

One area in which people have issues with protein powders is bloat. You don’t get any of that here.

Overall, an effective protein powder. Taste

Yeah, this is the exact taste of this protein powder. It’s called chocolate brownie, but they could have easily called it brownie batter.

I really enjoyed this one. It is a different, better take on chocolate. I would use 1.5 scoops in my post-workout shake. It tended to clump up a lot. This was disappointing to me since the taste was so damn good. It would happened probably 70% of the time. Not huge clumps, but big enough to notice.

We don’t have any issues with that. The profile is good (although we’d like to see the quality of whey protein concentrate) and the taste is phenomenal. The one area which concerns us is the mixibility which was mentioned before. I do think this protein powder is worth the price tag. When you compare to others similar, we do have higher rated protein powders that retail for the same price.

If you are looking for a delicious protein with a good profile, then this one is for you. Ingredients Profile

(7.5/10)[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]B.A.R. Nutrition’s Pre-Workout uses many standard ingredients with proven results. It also incorporates other ingredients that are known, but not widely seen. Let’s dive into it.

Let’s look at the pump ingredients first. We first start with 6g of L-Citrulline Malate. This is the clinical dosage of this ingredient. This is a pump enhancing ingredient as it helps promote blood flow. Next, we get 1g of L-Arginine. This is a solid dosage of an ingredient that will influence and increase NO levels in the body. After that, we get 1g of Agmatine Sulfate. This increases the perception of pain, and inhibits NO eating enzymes in the body, allowing your nitric oxide levels to work for you. A selection and dosages of pump ingredients.

Then we get into strength and endurance. We start with 1.5g of Beta-Alanine. This is the “itchy” ingredient to most, but it actually serves a purpose. It is intended to improve endurance. The proper dosage of this should be 3.2g. We come in at 50% of that. B.A.R. tosses in 1g of Taurine. This is a sufficient dosage of the ingredient meant to improve overall strength output. We get Kre-Alkalyn creatine at 1g as well. Creatine helps with strength output. Creatine Monohydrate is typically dosed at 5g, while Kre-Alkalyn should be around 3g. We are a bit light here as well. Overall, the strength complex uses good ingredients, just a tad light on the dosages.

Let’s get into the energy boost next. Two versions of caffeine are used. Caffeine Anhydrous is dosed at 200mg. A good dosage in our opinion. Di-Caffeine Malate is dosed at 75mg. I like the use of two forms of caffeine as it gives you a nice long energy, versus a sudden rush and crash. B.A.R. will then toss in stimulants (we all love those). Synepherine is used at 50mg. This is a nice dosage of Synepherine as it should be dosed between 30-60mg. This is essentially like ephedra. It is a fat burning ingredient meant to improve energy. Lastly, 2mg of Yohimbine HCl is used. Another fat burning, energy producing ingredient. This is a good dosage of it. Anything higher can cause your heart to go crazy. Good energy complex. Not overly complicated, but solid.

Lastly, we get the focus area of the pre-workout. We start with 100mg of Alpha GPC. I love A-GPC. It is one of my favorite nootropics. However, I wish it was dosed more along the lines of 300mg. This will improve focus. Next we get 20mg of Noopept. Great dosage here. This was found in Dust Extreme and how I got to like it. It is a nootropic that will give you “laser like focus.” Lastly, Huperzine is used at 100mcg. This is a solid dosage of another cognitive enhancing ingredient.

Effectiveness

(8.5/10)[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]We’ve taken a lot of pre-workouts in our day. Just check out this site. Effectiveness can range across the board, and it can differ from person to person.

The best part about this pre-workout was the sharp focus it gave us. I know that is because the mix of stims, caffeine, noopept, Huperzine and Alpha GPC. I love a good focus pre-workout. Noopept was loved in Dust Extreme, and you hardly find it on the market anymore. I would grade the focus a 10 out of 10 because we love noopept.

Energy was solid as well. I like it when we can do under 300mg of caffeine but still get an energy burst through the stims like we get in Synepherine and Y0himbe. I would give energy a nice 8-9. You get a good rush right away, and the 75mg of Dicaffeine Malate helps prolong that energy throughout your lift.

Pump was good. I do like other pump additives like Glycerol Powder, but this has what you need. You get Citrulline Malate, Agmatine Sulfate and L-Arginine to provide a good pump. You won’t necessarily need a pump agent on this baby. I give pump an 8.

Strength and endurance were decent. I didn’t find myself getting overly tired, and it was a good long lift session each time out. I would give this a 7.

Honestly, one of the better pre-workouts out there in terms of effectiveness. It hits on all five pillars. We then look at effectiveness. A high BCAA product will be effective. This is generally an extension of the profile section. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that product will be.

Then we move into the taste of the different flavors we’ve tried. We grade each flavor separately and average the scores for their overall taste rating. We were able to test out the following flavors: Lemon Lime.

Ingredients Profile

Yes, those are fine. B.A.R. Nutrition takes their BCAA product a step further by giving us EAAs, PeakO2 and electrolytes. Let’s dive in.

We start with the 2:1:1 ratio BCAA (4g of Leucine, 2g Iso-Leucine and 2g Valine). This is the ratio most widely studied and accepted. I would like to see at least 5g of this, but this will do given the other stuff we get with it. Along with the 4g of BCAA, we also get six other EAAs. With the debate on EAAs vs. BCAAs going strong, we get the whole basket here.

Defy BCAA +++ also gives us 1g of PeakO2. This ingredient has proven to increase strength outputs in test subjects. It is made from mushrooms, and we are big fans. A dosage of 2g is more sufficient, but in a BCAA product we cannot complain about getting 1g.

Three different phosphates and coconut water make up the electrolyte and hydration aspect of this BCAA product. We would like to see coconut water powder much higher than 10mg. We have seen this as high as 500mg.

Overall, good profile. I would like to see more BCAA (5g minimum) and more coconut water powder (at least 500mg). Effectiveness

This is an awesome product that tosses in ingredients to hit on other aspects like strength and endurance (PeakO2). Nice job by B.A.R. This comes through nicely in the effectiveness.

Love that I am getting 8g of BCAA (2:1:1) along with other EAAs that our bodies need. We had limited DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) from using this product. We would take in intra-workout, but it tasted so good we’d drink it all the time.

The PeakO2 mentioned early allows you to lengthen the time of your workout by allowing you to go longer as it helps with endurance. We had great, long workouts.

In terms of hydration, I honestly didn’t feel more hydrated than other BCAAs even though this has electrolytes and coconut water powder, but then again they weren’t dosed the highest.

Overall, I like that this is more than just a BCAA. It works.
