Garcinia Cambogia

Garcinia Cambogia is a supplement commonly used for weight loss. It was made popular by Dr. Oz and is a natural source of Hydroxycitric Acid.

Uses of Garcinia Cambogia

Garcinia Cambogia is one of the more popular ingredients for the purpose of weight loss. It was made popular by Dr. Oz through his TV show back in the early 2010’s, and is a natural source of Hydroxycitric Acid.

According to a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial done over 12 weeks. 135 were given either 1500mg of Hydroxycitric Acid, or a placebo, while both groups were given a high-fiber/low calorie diet. After 12 weeks, both groups lost significant amounts of weight, however there was no significant in the weight lost between the two groups. This was done on 3g grams Garcinia Cambogia.

One study suggests that Hydroxycitric Acid may aid in weight loss, as women supplementing with 2.4g of Garcinia Cambogia resulted in increased weight loss in women, however it notes that appetite suppression was not increased and subjects did not adhere to their diets better than the control group. It should be noted that a lot of the claims on Garcinia are due to a rat study caused a significant reduction in weight loss and reduced food intake.

For the most part, there isn’t much going to Garcinia Cambogia, and while it isn’t necessarily a bad ingredient to add to fat burning supplements, it shouldn’t be something you actively look for in a product.

Interactions with Garcinia Cambogia

You’ll see Garcinia Cambogia as a standalone for the most part, however it is commonly added to fat burners. Some ingredients you’ll find it paired with include Green Coffee Bean Extract, Forskolin, Fucoxanthin, Saffron Extract, and Synephrine.

Side Effects with Garcinia Cambogia

Some side effects associated with Garcinia Cambogia include headache, nausea, dizziness, and upset stomach. Always talk to your doctor before supplementing with Garcinia Cambogia.

Recommended Dose of Garcinia Cambogia

Since Garcinia Cambogia has little evidence to support its efficacy, there isn;t really a solid dose. However, the one study that showed potential was done with 1.2 grams of Hydroxycitric Acid, so 2.4 grams of Garcinia Cambogia (most Garcinia is standardized to 50% HCA).
